Crystal Flare smirked and gave Cloud an "I told you so" look. All the same, he began pacing the area, looking for suspicious activity as his soldier instincts began seeping back to him.

"Well ain't she a pocket of sunshine?" thought Cloud with a smirk, he began to look around, seeing if there was any suspicious activity...

K-Bar returned shortly, the wizard just behind him. After K-bar told him what to do, he shot a spell at the device she had placed earlier. K-Bar thanked the wizard and he left. She beckoned for Crystal and the recruit to come over to her. " I don't have all day!" she grumbled impatiently

"I'm coming, ma'am," said Crystal Fire politely, stiffing his inner emotions of irritation.

Cloud shrugged, "Yes ma'am" he said more out if habit than anything else. He followed closely behind.

"damn straight you're coming!" she knew this ponie's politeness was an act, but frankly she could care less right now. "ok, sleeping beauty, you and private snowball are gonna carry this device back to the dining hall." she indicated the machine, which was now whirring and beeping. "and you should clean up your act sleeping beauty, next time you sleep through an alarm, I will personally put you in a world of pain. Understood?"

"Of course, won't happen again." Under his breath, Crystal muttered to himself, "But only cause I'm going to swap guard posts with somepony else. I've had enough of you."

Grabbing hold of the machine-whatever it was-he began lugging it back out of the doorway.

Cloud rose an eyebrow, "Private Snowball? Do you see any white on me?" he asked, indicating his silver colored coat before helping Crystal, "Whats her problem?" he muttered...

"I don't know," Crystal Flame grumbled. "But she's one of the few ponies who's managed to irritate me. That's saying something. I'm staying out of her way in the future-at least Celestia's guards don't curse your tail off every second."

K-Bar heard this and laughed, "fat chance of that, bub! Im the highest ranked pony in this castle right now. You seem to keep forgetting that you've broken one of the most important rules; Stay Alert!". She had had it with Crystal's uncaring attitude and was one remark away from beating him into submission.

"And how exactly do I do THAT when I'm asleep? We're not all nocturnal, ya know. I stare at a blank wall for eighteen hours a day. Four hours of sleep is too much to ask for?" Crystal Flame snapped, losing his cool. "At least I had the decency to wake up-half the guards in the barracks are still asleep with their pillows over their heads!"

"Come on you two! There is no time for arguing!" Cloud said, then shrunk down as he forgot their rank, "I-I mean, Sir and Ma'am"...

K-Bar took in a deep breath and sighed, "I'm sorry about all this, but this has been a rough week and on top all of it? We lose the princesses. DAMMIT!" She punched the wall hard, "That was my only job! Protect Luna... I failed her... So now we have to redeem ourselves."

Crystal Flame considered. Well at least she seems to have lost the cursing. That's good. "Well then ma'am," he said, regaining his polite composure. "Perhaps we should get started on finding them then? The machine has been set up, whatever it does."

As much as Cloud thought it was suicide, he approached K-Bar, he smiled gently and said, "We CAN do this Captain, and we WILL, you havent failed anypony until you give up, and seeing as you are so keen on saving them, I'd say you havent failed. Just, insult a little less, and we'll get along just fine"

K-Bar composed herself. "you're right, um... Whatsyourname, we need to get to work! Hoof (hand) me that map!" she gestured towards the large map with guard positions on it laying on the table near Cloud.

Cloud looked at the map and gave it to K-Bar, "And its Cloud Chaser by the way ma'am" he said with a chuckle.

Crystal Flame handed it over, his thought turning to how this could have happened in the first place.

Crystal Flame began circling the perimeter aimlessly, seeing as he had no objectives to complete at the moment.

K-Bar laid the map out on the table and placed the contraption on top of the map. She flicked a switch and the machine began to whir and shudder. "this is a portal marker, it uses the magic of skilled unicorn to locate both sides of a rip in space caused by teleportation. It then marks it on the map, but it takes a few hours" she explained.

Crystal Flame walked over to examine the machine. "So, what do we do in the meantime then?" he asked.

Cloud nodded impressed, "Never understood magic, guess thats because my heads usually in the clouds... literally!" he joked

K-Bar allowed a small chuckle before answering, cloud, "Irecommend that you go get some rest for the rescue mission that we're undertaking soon. And you, um... What's your name? You are going to wait with me and watch over this machine until it can mark the map."

[Strong Hooves 289]

Cloud gave a happy salute, "Yes ma'am" he said happily, Well dang she isnt that much older than me, calling her ma'am is so weird, then turned to walk off to his sleeping quarters, jumping into his bed and quickly falling asleep...

"Alright then," said Crystal Flame, picking up the saber he had discarded to the ground earlier and proceeding the guard the doorway. Geez, never thought I'd be doing this again, he thought in amusement as he stared at the door.
