On the topic of alicorns

So many people latly have been saying alicorns cannot "die" well im here to clear that up, there are 2 typs of alicorns natural(born an alicorn) and made(given wings or horn) while natural alicorns live longer than others (celestia and luna) but twilight is not an natural alicorn so she will age the same with her friends and probably not live as long as celestia and luna. this is my and a few other peoples theory. be free to correct me if im wrong.

Everypony likes to quote that it was stated Twilight won't outlive her friends. They also like to assume that means Twilight continues to age like a normal pony. First, stated does not = cannon. Second, what if Twilight dies from other means or her friends gain a way to extend their life spans? I have seen no evidence to support 2 types of Alicorns in cannon.

Alicorns are immortal, but eventually they will start to age and they can die from other causes except old age. I still think there are two types of alicorns, if you think about it.

Could you imagine the socio-economic  disaster that would occur if you suddenly made an entire population immune to ageing? Also, if everyone lives forever, then you get overpopulation really, really quickly. And it would be hard to maintain a feudal system in a world of immortals.

I have a theory. The writers do what they want and can change their minds whenever it suits them. Some theory right? The truth is we have no information about Alicorns, so until they show it on the show, making it canon, we are free to enjoy any head canon we want.

I agree with FGRNpony that one way to interpret MMC is that the Unicorn, Twilight Sparkle, died and was reborn an Alicorn. If that's true and that's what Meghan was referring to, than Alicorn Twilight can outlive her friend. The truth is anything is possible.

I agree. It is fun to theorize. If you look back on what I've said on this topic (no you don't have to search for the threads) my point is usually that Twilight doesn't have to be immortal to out live her friends. People out live family and friends all the time, so the thought that the mane 6 will die together, or live forever, seems absurd.

There are a few topics that the writers seem loath to be pinned down on-age, geography, life span, and chronology, so I don't expect we'll ever get an answer to this question.

My question is how is Twilight really different as an alicorn? She's used her wings like 3 times so far, her magic isn't more powerful, what's so different about her now? I mean, I forget she even has them most of the time. I get that she's not used to the whole flying thing yet, but I've seen Fluttershy do more with her wings!

   For me alicorns are an interesting and most cryptic feature in Equestrian society, yet this enigma has me fascinated for alicorns. Twilight Sparkle became a alicorn princess because she grasped her lesson in friendship, it was a status she earn over the course of three seasons, as opposed to the Disney princess that was typically born with the title princess, different from history and traditional literature that has the daughter of a noble family marry into ruling dynasty in before she officially receive the nomenclature princess. I appreciate the story My Little Pony has flowing, were the pony is gradually groomed into the position, and I am inclined to believe that common and noble ponies can be alicorns, I do wonder if earth ponies can become alicorns, furthermore I wonder if there are male alicorns, the alicorn pony is an aspect that could be explored some more, we know that a unicorn like Twilight Sparkle, and a pegasus like Cadence could be alicorns, after learning a crucial lesson at the fibre of their being, nevertheless I am quite passionate about alicorns, and deserve more endeavour that the lukewarm reception they have, if the alicorns are the nobility of Equestria or just ordinary citizens of Equestria, so be amiable and be curious about alicorns and their place in Equestria.

I've come to think of this period in her life as like a women carrying her first baby. Your life has changed and will change even more, but until that baby comes you're not really a Mom yet. Twilight hasn't been given any duties yet, so she's a princess in waiting. At some point she'll get duties. Meghan was asked on Twitter if Twilight's status will be important to the plot, before the finale, and she answered yes.

As far as the wings, she uses and seems to enjoy them far more than I thought. She flies or spreads her wings at least once per episode and I don't expect her to fly as much as a born Pegasus. She seems to fly more than the other princesses, however.

The answer is simple. Twilight got some wings and a longer horn and neck. She will live 7 seconds longer than all her friends, and will have to attend their funerals until she drops dead in the middle of them. Somewhat funny, but kind of sad. 

 

We have no idea if this happens to all alicorns, and are Celestia and Luna natural born alicorns? Can an alicorn even be born? We cannot answer these questions. Maybe the bestower of Alicornhood can control the specific properties of that Alicorn(but not affect them negatively). They could be given flight skills, stronger magic, longer life, and plenty of other things.

celestia and luna are naturaly born alicorns by their parents that died in the draconicorn and alicorn war, after luna celestia and discord found equestria (backstory found online) and later getting their cuty marks by raising the sun and moon. but yes alicorns can be born or made. So whatever theory you choose it is still just a theory not fact.

No, you are in fact simply stating your own take on the whole thing.

 

As of yet, we have no idea what Twilight's (shoehorned in ahead of time due to editorial mandate) transformation will mean.

Personally, I prefer the idea of her (and Spike for that matter) outliving her friends, simply because it opens up a myriad story possibilities.

I would give several a lot for an episode of Luna and Celestia breaking Twilight into what it means to be immortal, similar to Ramirez and Connor in Highlander.

 

That being said, the chances of this ever being brought up in the show are slim at best.
