Waplon 14 March 9, 2012 Share March 9, 2012 Although the .mov series, Cupcakes, and the like are not what you'd call "normal" or "sane", as long as there are adult fans of MLP, there will always be people who enjoy this stuff. And who knows? Perhaps these could be the triggers for someone who enjoys dark humor, gore, or stuff like that to become an MLP fan.
hawkflame 3,310 March 9, 2012 Share March 9, 2012 Though I haven't read the fanfiction, I've seen a couple of the Cupcake animated clips on Youtube, and I found it personally disgusting yet morbidly funny at the same time (I think what helped was how they cut back to Dash and Pinkie dancing in between scenes). And frankly, while it's not something I'll generally indulge in, I think that there is a place for that kind of expression online, and even though I'm new to the fandom, I personally haven't found it that hard to avoid. Cosmic Charlie 129 March 9, 2012 Share March 9, 2012 This happens all the time, and the reason is simple. The larger a fanbase gets, the closer it will resemble a sample of society at large. This element of darkness you perceive has always existed in the fandom, just as it has in humanity, and it always will. It was not as obvious before when our numbers were lesser. Find comfort in the fact that as their number grows, ours does as well. The proportion of relatively "good" fans is the same as it always was. One just tends to notice the outliers easier because they stir the pot, and there are more to go around now. You need only look at EqD's growing unique visitor count to understand. 1 "If we have the courage to decide ourselves for peace, we will have peace." - Albert Einstein
Laydee Kaze 400 March 9, 2012 Share March 9, 2012 This thread... really? REALLY? Welcome to being in a fandom. If you really think that stuff like gory fanfics and slightly dark parody video's 'tarnish' the fandom, I suggest you check out Urban Dictionary or something and look up bronies again. I don't see what's the problem. Every fandom has 'darker' stuff so to speak. You have to take into account that various people are in the fandom for various reasons. Be it art, writing, making parodies, music, etc etc. :I 1 Deviantart
Pinkazoid 3,493 March 10, 2012 Share March 10, 2012 i understand no fanbasae is ever perfect, but we can deal with this videos, other's can't, but part of what makes this community is the people who watch and like them, my friend is now a brony because I showed her the .MOV videos and other MLP parodies, I don't hate them, and some of the videos I find disturbing and I rather not watch, but that's part of the fanbase and that's what makes it okay 1 :
Fizz. 1,078 March 10, 2012 Share March 10, 2012 MLP by its nature is a wonderful and innocent show intended for a young audience. I do believe gory fanfics or videos do ruin people's impressions on the show. Some is fine, but then many videos like that is just over the top. Please keep in mind there are many young children, younger than us, who would search up MLP on youtube, and watch which ever has the most views. We have to be responsible in our actions and be good role models. Who lets their kid on youtube if they don't want them finding inappropriate stuff? I had left my cousin with some Sim City videos to watch when he was like 6, and came back to find him watching an animal getting run over. Little children in the age demographic should be monitored while on youtube, if not, you're a bad parent and you should feel bad. http://alt="img-3411728-1-kQpW0ME.png">
Espeon 338 March 10, 2012 Share March 10, 2012 There's a part of every fandom like that. When the fandom gets bigger, the "fandumb" will also get bigger proportionally. Marcato 2,143 March 10, 2012 Share March 10, 2012 Every fanbase has it's quirks. This about sums it up unfortunately.
