well... *Dons safety glasses and points to projector* Due to the fact that smoke is just the uncombusted results of a thermal event there are theoretically bits and pieces of fuel mixed in with the (normally) inflammable constituents of the rest of the smoke. Thus, if you have a significantly higher temperature, or a more efficient oxidizer, you could ignite the remaining fuel and potentially some of the other byproducts of the initial combustion.

Well student, it's not weird that you understood all of that. As for why I'm wearing these I'm about to demonstrate the other way you can ignite smoke. *pulls out flask of yellowish liquid*

No, it's an oxidizer. And an acid. And a flourinator. It will burn you, dissolve you, and flourinate you at the same time.

Nah, the addition of flourine to the thing. Not sure exactly what it does, but my chemist sources say it's pretty nasty on its own.
