Singe 2,111 February 19, 2014 Share February 19, 2014 (edited) I was reading some of the Magic the Gathering novels and noticed some things. King Sombra like Yawgmoth, was a villain who rose up to corrupt and take over an ancient beautiful empire. Crystal Empire and Thran Empire.Crystals were used as part of the beauty of the empire. Crystal Empire itself and the Thran that was built on using crystals called PowerstonesKing Sombra and Yawgmoth were both banished by a female character. Celestia and RebbecCrystal Empire and The Thran both disappeared.King Sombra and Yawgmoth both became a black massive cloud.King Sombra and Yawgmoth both had the ability to probe into their subject's heads and make them have memory problems.King Sombra and Yawgmoth were both beaten by a magical artifact. Andaasonsan 3,205 February 19, 2014 Share February 19, 2014 Meghan McCarthy has said that she intended for Sombra to be like Sauron from Lord of the Rings. I'd actually say that Yawgmoth would also be in many ways based off Sauron which could explain some similarities. Main thing though, Sombra was never trying to "compleat" ponies with horrific surgery and glistening oil. Application REJECTED!
Singe 2,111 February 19, 2014 Author Share February 19, 2014 (edited) Sombra had that growing dark crystal and did infect Twilight's brother. It behaved almost similarly like the glistening oil. Edited February 19, 2014 by Singe
Andaasonsan 3,205 February 19, 2014 Share February 19, 2014 Sombra had that dark crystal grow and did infect Twilight's brother. A major difference though is that Thran Power Crystals were just what the Phyrexians used as batteries, they weren't the thumbprint of Phyrexian influence. That's what glistening oil was for. Sombra's crystals are pretty much his trademark. And Shining Armor was just injured by the crystal thingies, they weren't slowly corrupting him physically and spiritually until he would become a willing servant of Sombra. Application REJECTED! Though that would have been a nice touch.
camsterman101 159 February 19, 2014 Share February 19, 2014 Honestly, I think it crossed there minds there at Hasbro. Sadly I don't really see them doing anything special with it though. They had some opportunities to throw references in, and they did not. Good post though! -Have a great day!
Andaasonsan 3,205 February 19, 2014 Share February 19, 2014 I can't believe it slipped my mind that My Little Pony and Magic: the Gathering are both owned by Hasbro! So there totally could be a MLP/M:tG crossover without legal repercussions. It wouldn't happen though. Application REJECTED!
Singe 2,111 February 19, 2014 Author Share February 19, 2014 If Wizards decides to bring their Un- set back, they could probably do a few FIM reference cards. The main game could always produce more Unicorns, Pegasus, and maybe release an Alicorn.
Page.Turner 940 February 19, 2014 Share February 19, 2014 Having only ever played MTG back in 1998-2004, I have no idea @_____@ I am sorry. However, from what you've said, there are obvious similarities So yeah, maybe! I think the best source to check up on this stuff might be to go to the Wizards of the Coast website C: ... Forlong 1,726 February 19, 2014 Share February 19, 2014 Sealed evil in a can is a common trope that can be traced back to Greek mythology. Even the Lord of All Creation will seal Satin away for 1,000 years. No prizes for guessing how well that will turn out. God works in mysterious ways, that sometimes seem stupid at the time. Scootalove 10,692 February 19, 2014 Share February 19, 2014 Probably, but that would be for the people who know about the game. Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
