What If Filli Vanilli Had Been A Sweetie Belle Episode?

So I got a comment on my thoughts on Filli Vanilli video that got me thinking. What if this episode had been about Sweetie Belle instead of Fluttershy?

 

The comment pointed out that it doesn't make sense for Fluttershy to have this kind of stage fright, when she was clearly willing to participate in the Equestria Games, in a STADIUM full of ponies, here she would just be performing in front of a small crowd. Now while this is true, I can still see how this is possible, but this sort of contradiction wouldn't have happened if this had been a Sweetie Belle episode.

 

In The Show Stoppers, it was made clear that Sweetie isn't comfortable singing in front of others, just with her friends. So if you take out the Pony Tones and use another element, you could probably make this a Sweetie Belle episode.

 

So what do you guys think? Do you think this episode could have worked if it had been about Sweetie Belle instead of Fluttershy? Do you have any ideas about how such an episode can play out? Leave your thoughts below

It probably would've worked like Flight to the Finish worked. Sweetie belle has been shown to be a good singer. If they were to do that, it would probably be the Sweetie Belle gets her cutie mark episode.

It wouldn't be at all the same episode. I want Sweetie Belle to perform and get her Cutie Mark too, but I think this episode is perfectly fine as is.

If it was a Sweetie Belle episode, then she would possibly get her cutie mark or in this case realize that her talent could/is connected to singing. The episode would still be good even with a Sweetie Belle centered episode.

Sweetie's voice actor is sounding less and less squeaky and child-like.

I always assumed they were keeping her out of the show so they can hire someone who can squeak better. She's pony actress McCaulie Culkin. When we hear Sweetie next, it will feel like watching Home Alone 3 for the first time.

Anyway, I said this in my review of the episode.  It was my final point.  Nice to know I'm not the only one that thought so.

 

I have to disagree with claims that it would be her cutie mark episode.  Sweetie Belle already knows she's a good singer, she just doesn't know it's what she's best at.  Getting over her stage fright would be a necessary step, but it wouldn't be the exact moment.

TheMysteriousMrEnter also had this opinion. I personally would like it if it were set up on Sweetie rather than Fluttershy. I didn't notice the plotholes at first but after hearing reviews and stuff it does make sense. It also would be a great CUTIE MARK EPISODE!

It would have been GREAT!

 

However, I think we must consider the logistics here. The voice actress who has just started also doing the singing roles of SB is i believe just turning 13ish? While females do not go through such a heavy voice change as males, they do drop a few bars and have a good period of time that revolves around them getting more comfortable with things like singing, public speaking and so on.

 

That all being said, I would assume on the drawing board this was a possibility. Clearly the idea of the group singing and the lesson of fear of stage fright was killer on the season planning. Perhaps they did plan for SB to take this role, but as the director has made clear they want young Claire Corlett to take her role further. The gal is doing a great job, starting VA at such a young age (i do not recall the other series she worked on) is hard on anyone. Her singing in Heart strong as Horses was great, but it was also supported and blended with the other two VA's. In this episode, Flutterguy's vocals beatdown and showed up the others and was center stage during the montages. That being said, perhaps they producers do not feel Claire is at a vocal level yet to take such a center role. Who knows.

 

Sweete Belle is the sickest! Anything with her getting more air time I am all for...more Rarity Belle and Sweetie Belle time though!!!
