TrunksXV 33 February 24, 2014 Share February 24, 2014 To add to the discussion anyone here remember the Beanie Babies Craze? At least with MLP stuff there is at least the possibility of getting a return on it in a few years. Some of my original power ranger stuff is STILL Popular! Even More Popular NOW than when the show was on! Go read this article! Beanie Babies never had the kind of cultural that MLP has. Just obsessed collectors, which just turned out to be nothing more than a fad, with no substance. Take a look at Pogs for a comparison. People who are crazy for this stuff are nothing new at all. We have more platforms now, and unlike Pogs or Beanie Babies, the MLP, Transformers and other toy lines will be still going strong years from now. TrunksXV 33 February 24, 2014 Share February 24, 2014 Check one of the collectors guides to be sure. I wouldn't doubt it though. Beanie Babies made that guy rich, even though most of those products aren't worth much these days with the exception of a few lines. "The very word secrecy is repugnant in a free and open society. MJDudeK 226 February 24, 2014 Share February 24, 2014 Yeah man, I get that. There just comes a point when you'll look back and wish you hadn't spent all that money on merchandise. What if the fandom dies? What if a tough situation comes up, and those thousands of dollars spent on ponies could have saved your life, family, or home? I'm not saying it's wrong to buy pony stuff, you guys are twisting my words. I'm just saying that there comes a point when it becomes a bit too much. That maybe you should stop and think about your next purchase before throwing your money at Hasbro or some pony-related thing. Again, it's not WRONG to buy pony things. It just gets ridiculous after a while. Okay? Okay. Dude, I've thrown my money away on many things, from thousands of dollars of comics to tens of thousands of dollars on drugs, and if I'm 100% sure of one thing it's that throwing your money away on ponies is the most productive thing iv'e done with my money. just because it's not for you doesn't mean it hasn't saved someone else from spiritual ruin.

Lightning Bliss 1,674 February 24, 2014 Share February 24, 2014 Two words for you, Star Trek. That is one if NOT the biggest Fandom in the world, following up on not just figures and ship designs, but video games, conventions surroudning the franchise, reviews, knock offs, spin offs, etc etc. Yet this isn't considered weird in the slightest it is also not the only fandom that does so. Like Star Wars, or The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, I could go on here lol! Point is, videos, music, and conventions is just part of what a fandom is all about. It allows people to embrace their loves and passions for the franchise because it relates to something they love. Like for me the fandom is all about friendship, and harmony, family even now, and I embrace all those important things. Best yet for me it is represented by pony characters! yay! 2 I'm just a silly little alicorn, trying to get by in the fandom ^^ The Lightning Bliss Show Lightning Bliss DevianArt

Stancet 685 February 25, 2014 Share February 25, 2014 (edited) I've never assumed the Bronies were taking My Little Pony too seriously. To me, the ultimate irony is that MLP actually started in the 80s, if you remember. Nobody assumed candy colored ponies would amount to anything back then. Now, the true potential that has been waiting there all this time has finally caught up with it and it's overdue for lots of love and attention. I'm glad. My Little Pony deserves this kind of fandom. Many other great TV shows have fallen off the air cuz of weak viewership. For once, history didn't need to repeat itself. So the way I see it it's a possible investment (though it looking fantabulous is the draw). Atleast it's not something as trivially dumb as paying more for a car that looks cooler, over the one that's more practical, less mileage, and better fuel economy. Duster Dawnhorse 248 February 25, 2014 Share February 25, 2014 I think a large amount of it is the lack of people willing to stand up versus the sheer number of people who will enable extreme fan behavior. The brony mantra "love and tolerate" has been twisted to mean "enabling is magic." Really, if we needed one fandom to illustrate the geek social fallacies perfectly, it would be this one. The extremist bronies have a premade echo chamber of other equally insane bronies to justify any creepy, abnormal, or otherwise unwanted behavior. Thankfully out of all my years interneting about and specializing in psychotic fandoms, MLP doesn't even break the top three. Venomous 18,862 February 25, 2014 Share February 25, 2014 I think it's to extreme when someone: Dresses up as a character regularly (Not strictly at conventions but all the time), believe they have a pony counter-part in another dimension, fantasize about having sexual relations with the characters, and making MLP so important that they become isolated. Wubsie 1,123 February 25, 2014 Share February 25, 2014 (edited) No offense, but I don't think you should tell anyone how to live their lives. If it doesn't affect you why do you care? Some people don't like to see men wasting their money in a Wal-Mart on a Rainbow Dash plush. Highly Cringe-Worthy in my opinion. And besides it's best if nobody does that. Anyway we all know this show was for girls to go out and buy the toys. It's Hasbro, way too obvious, don't try to make yourself feel better by saying it's not. Because everyone knows most people that try to argue about it don't want to accept the fact they watch a show for kids. Let's be honest here. also to why they take it to the extreme? Probably have nothing else better to do really. Edited February 25, 2014 by Wubsie 1 I Steam I PhotoBucket I Youtube I Ask Me Anything!
