Cliché and Cliché-Avoidance Game

I don't know about anypony else, but I find it a little inspirational to look at clichés; it makes me think of what would be a better (or simply different) approach.

* Was meant as a creative drill, hence why I thought it may belong in this subforum

 

So, if anyone else is interested, I'd like to propose a little game, and see if it amuses a few people, gets them to think, or crashes and burns spectacularly.

 

Here's the premise:

I'll start off with a cliché that crops up somewhere in the fandom or world of MLP fanfiction. The next person will then propose a plot twist, alteration, or modification to make it non-cliché but still interesting enough to work with in whatever the original context was. Then, that same person will state a cliché of their own.

Each consecutive person will have the chance to address one of the two clichés immediately above them, but must always list a new cliché at the end of their post. --Or a little further up if the cliché is something you really want to address, or it has simply gone ignored.

 

 

I choose to start with:

The protagonist of whatever species saves the CMC in the Everfree Forest from timber wolves and gains their admiration.

Bad ending, CMC's become changelings and slowly, throughout the rest of the story, the rest of the town starts to turn into changelings before Ponyville, including the Elements, are fully converted into changelings and they lead a full-blown invasion on Canterlot, which results in Chrysalis usurping the throne, looking over her kingdom as Equestria gets drained of love and her hive gains power.

Ninja indeed. And maybe a tad far-reaching, haha. 

 

Rainbow Dash, instead of becoming depressed or getting taken care of by a soon-to-be special somepony (from what I gather, that's the path most travelled?), she embraces her awesomeness and aspires to be a rockstar. She then temporarily teams up with Vinyl, fails a good bit, and finally falls in with a punk crowd (minus Vinyl) known to be violent and extreme on stage (smashing instruments and such). She rediscovers she can fly, but doesn't give up her band until she toured over half of Equestria before quietly integrating back into the quiet town of Ponyville. And now she has a stage name she answers to.

 

 

Cliche: A new pegasus OC comes to Ponyville, and manages to out-race RD.

RD viciously murders the OC and drinks her blood in hopes of gaining her speed, in some weird demonic ritual. Then she wakes up and realised it was all a dream.

Twilight then takes off her disguise and turns out to be Rarity

 

 

Pinkie Pie murders ponies.

Pinkie dies an accidental death following her long history of murder and is left to wander Equestria as a ghost, barely able to interact with the world much less induce any notable changes. She beings to lose her will to care about much of anything, before happening across a young family that catches her eye. She gradually finds herself hanging around them, watching them, and feeling a background want for them to be happy. She watches as the family is torn apart, the husband leaves the mother with two foals and no good way to make ends meet--and at first Pinkie wants him dead, but turns to want for the family to be happy more than anything, so she tries to use what bear little influence she has over the physical world to help them.

What comes to mind is a very important letter they almost leave behind without seeing, and Pinkie uses every bit of her ghostly willpower to just make it seen.

Pinkie then proceeds to live on as a spectre, watching over the two foals as they grow older, unable to pass into the afterlife.

 

 

Lyra is confronted by a human for the first time, as is completely overcome with interest/want.

   Twilight's (apparent) long-lost cousin appears in Ponyville, and he has bat wings and a horn.

   Twilight's (apparent) long-lost cousin appears in Ponyville, and he has bat wings and a horn.

Turns out he's absolutely terrible at flying, challenges Twilight to a magic duel, and winds up goofing off instead. He is never seen or heard from again.

 

Robots invade Ponyville.

Twilight tries out a new spell, and it backfires (possibly turning every mare Futa).

 

Sweetie Belle gets her cutie mark in singing.
