In the school episode Cheerliee brings up how cutie marks represent each ponies special talents.

I can understand most of the mane 6s' but what exactly is Applejack's special specific talent?

Fluttershy- speaking with animals in gentle nature/ gentle in nature/ three because she can get groups of them to listen to her

Rainbow Dash- fast as lighting / only one that can do sonic rainboom

Twilight Sparkle - stars to represent multiple magical ablilities / celestial being(alicorn) /rise in power as stars rise at night/

Pinkie Pie- best party planning pony, (balloons) lifts everyone's spirits, even those who are blue

Rarity- good at find hidden gems , good at making things beautiful/fancy

Everyone is more or less BEST at something or their cutie mark can be interperted different ways. But three red apples ?

Also why isn't Granny Smith's of Zap Apples?

> Trying to make sense of a very insignificant detail in a little girls tv show.

Anyways, it's obvious her talent is being an apple farmer. DERP.

As to why Granny Smiths cutie mark isn't a zap apple?..... I'd leave that story to before she discovered them.....

Actually I think that her cutie mark represents her family more than being a farmer. I mean, Apples are everything for her. Of course, she is a good farmer and all, but her relatives and friends are much more important for her than it. My personal little headcanon is that three apples represent her and her siblings.

I will not rest until we get to the core of this issue.

Applejack's talent is clearly connected to her running the apple farm. Bucking the apples, baking them into whatever form they need to be in, all that stuff. I think it also relates to keeping her family together and looking after them, since she didn't get her mark by doing anything specifically related to apples, but rather when she realized she belonged at home with her brother and granny. To me, this seems to be as important to her identity and talent as the farming part. She's extremely good at being a big sister to Apple Bloom and a comforting presence to the people around her, and she has a history of getting very troubled and reacting very negatively (by Applejack standards) when something isn't right with her family members.

Not that this isn't a normal reaction of course, and not to say that Applejack is a slave to her cutie mark in some way or that she does any of what she does because of it, but I consider the farming and the family aspects of her life to both be very important to who she is and I think both are important in looking at her cutie mark and talent. Farming is more than how the Apple family makes a living, it's how they connect to each other and how they've built the bond they have, which is the real thing that makes them special to me.

Alternatively, apples, and I should go to bed instead of overanalyzing cartoons. I like my thing better though.

The obvious answer is apple bucking but I think that cutie marks not only reference their talent but also say something about them. In Applejack's case it is also about being true to herself, she found her cutie mark when she realized she was trying to be somepony she was not and realized the adage of the grass not always being greener on the other side which ie appreciate what you have. What Applejack has is good friends, the respect of many citizens of Ponyville and a loving family even though she has faced great hardship in her younger years. I often wonder if her decision to go to Manehattan had anything to do with her parents death.

My theories.

- The Apples as a family

- Apples have a firm core, representing her constitution

- Three apples mean Applebloom, Big Mac, Granny Smith. The three she returned to.

It looks like a traditional cutiemark to me. Three symbols in a row. In the older generations, they used six of the same symbol. So my point is, I don't think it has to do with the number of apples there. It's just a cutiemark to represent her apple farm chores and skills. XD Something you do typically that makes you special, or an attribute. Nothing to overthink. Not all cutiemarks represent everything you stand for.

I always sort of thought that the Mane Six all had cutie marks that represented a broad range of not just talents, but destinies too. Applejack said so herself in The Cutie Mark Chronicles that she knew right then just who she was supposed to be when she went home to her family to work in the orchard. This implies that she received her cutie mark because apple farming was her calling in life. And there's no doubt about it, she is truly an expert at her craft. She keeps her family organized and on schedule (as Apple Bloom put it in Pinkie Apple Pie) and she's a very strong and diligent applebucker with genuine passion for what she does despite how hard it is. She can make any amazing product imaginable with her apples as well - fritters, pies, cakes, fries, cider, brown bettys, tarts, consumer electronics, you name it, she can probably apple-ify it. :)

I don't think the three apples represent anything in particular, other than a strong affiliation with apples which are the crop that she grows. If you'll notice, Rarity has three diamonds for a cutie mark, Fluttershy has three butterflies, and Pinkie Pie has three balloons. I don't think the number of objects within the cutie mark bears any significant meaning for that reason. It's just a common design choice started by Faust for this generation of MLP. Ponies in older generations usually had six objects on their cutie marks.

i don't know about AJ but i think i understand Big Macintosh's cutie mark perfectly, actually. it's a half of a big green apple, and i think it represents him perfectly. the apple has a tough durable exterior, yes, but it hides a soft inside, just like big mac. on the outside, he's a huge strong muscular earth stallion. but once you get to know him, the real big mac is quiet, shy, thoughtful and as gentle as a little lamb.

The three red apples not only represent Sweet Apple Acres as a whole (you know...apples)....but also the Apple Family. She is one of 3 siblings who are all apples as well.

Or you can just say it was an ascetic upgrade of Applejack's previous cutie marks in earlier generations which leaves little to the imagination....

Granny Smith already had her cutie mark by the time she discovered the Zap Apples; had she not by then, then her cutie would likely be a zap apple or some zap apple product....
