Espurr 449 March 26, 2014 Share March 26, 2014 (edited) I can honestly say that I became a brony for the TV show and not the fandom. I didn't know the fandom even existed until a few months after. I didn't do a lot of internet. I didn't have a computer. I watched TV and played outside like a good little 12 year old. On topic, don't feel too bad, Furzvette. Just because most Bronies like the show as well doesn't mean you can't get along with them, right? Of course I get along with them. I know much about the ponies and even the epsiodes just based on popular video clips and reading the wiki's But just on the topic of knowing the characters and pony talk in general we have a great time. Guest90210 3,569 April 1, 2014 Share April 1, 2014 That's kind of what I am at this point. I barely watch the show. I'm mainly interested in the community as I enjoy the antics and general craziness that is the Brony fandom.

It's disturbing how the fandom can go overdrive. Mang, every fandom I've been has had that happen not too soon after formation. I used to be heavy into Ed, Edd, n' Eddy, and there were unspoken rules about not typing in "Marie Kanker" into Google images or trying your best to ignore the EddxEddy fanfiction. It happens in every fandom, but when it comes to Bronies... well, when they do something crazy, I guess they go overboard! Better to be unbeatable at something than to do it and come out limp. Or something like that. 2 #bringbackmerriwetherwillaims
Wayzer 1,418 April 22, 2014 Share April 22, 2014 I have always been an open minded person, and never really had a problem with bronies when they originally emerged. But eventually the bronies became extremely popular and they were everywhere. So I decided to give the show a chance and after about 5-10 episodes I still could not get into the show. I definitely see the appeal of it. Moreover the show is becoming more influenced by bronies making the later episodes more attractive. However, I still don't fully enjoy the show as its missing things I want like more drama, realism, sexual themed jokes, relationships such as the mane six or the princesses having boyfriends/husbands (besides shining armor and princess cadence), and more. I can understand all of this because the show is on the Hub network meant to target a younger audience. Also the lack of males having more influence especially with older males being the shows core audience. I would like to see a male Alicorn which would defiantly even out power. But there is one thing the show provides the community with is a ton of brony made content. Thanks to a huge brony fan base there has been a large sum of content and even fan made professional done videos on YouTube that look extremely similar to the show that have all of the stuff I want in whcih the show is lacking. Also there is a ton of awesome fimfictions and creepy pastas that I aslo enjoy. I also do enjoy fallout equestria. In all the content produced by the fandom itself is what made me a brony, and not the show itself. I like both really, but yeah, you are a brony because of the fandom you know. Otherwise you would just be someone who likes mlp fim. My little sis watches the show, but that doesn't necessarily make her a brony/pegasis Aaamazing signature made by the awesome Nectar! Commissar Alexer 763 April 24, 2014 Share April 24, 2014 In my case it was because of Fanfictions since a show about candy colored ponies don't really interest me. "There is no such thing as innocence, only degrees of guilt." "Prayer cleanses the soul, Pain cleanses the body." "He who follows Chaos, shall suffer for eternity." Second off, Hoof bump (\ Third off, I'd say that your problems I shared in the begging with the show, (I actually accidentally got into MLP:FiM on the 4th season after only watching 3 from the 3rd episode) but with season 4 I could really get into it. After a bit I'd say that the brony made stuff did get me into this forum, and more attached to other bronies, but nothing more...
Justin_Case001 4,908 April 24, 2014 Share April 24, 2014 I definitely would not have become an MLP fan if the brony community didn't exist simply because I would not have had a reason to notice the show. But after watching all of season 1 and most of 2, I can definitely say that I am truly a fan of the show, and would still love it regardless of the existence of the brony community. But whatever reason you're here for, whether it's the show itself or the fandom, just happy to see everypony on the forums.

NavelColt 22,883 May 14, 2014 Share May 14, 2014 I've no doubt it's not only possible, but getting more and more common an occurrence the larger the fandom gets. Size + Large amount of output content = easier to enjoy the tree without having been apart of the the seed planting, so to speak. Though, I'm glad I got into the fandom through the show Conversely, there are also people who are no longer fans of the show, who still thrive in the fandom. It works in entering as well as exiting.

Exactly, The fandom is is huge reason why people remain even if they still dont watch the show. Despite some people loosing interest in the show itself, the content produced by the fandom is just so well done. GXPBlast 597 May 27, 2014 Author Share May 27, 2014 (edited) That's exactly how I became a brony because I used to think there was just the show, but then I found all the fanon stuff and I thought it was simply amazing. But I still almost never watch episodes. I am noticing alot of bronies are watching the show less that they used to. I think this is because as the show is becoming more dated now and the initial craze of the actual show is slowing down. Plus the fandom has created some fan made animations that are so well done, that they can be mistaken as the actual show and bronies have more flexibility in terms of making unique plots for their animations without Hasbro getting on the writers case about if what they write is to violent or could scare the children. Lets face it, despite bronies being a large audience, the show is originally catered to kids and some things just wont be allowed on the HUB. It kind of reminds me of Pokemon. Sure Pokemon still has a large following such as the video games, but I remember when was younger Pokemon related stuff was all over the place. Everyone I knew collected the cards and watched the show. I have yet to meet any person of young kid for that matter who collects Pokemon cards and watches the T.V show. Pokemon is still very popular but really its the video games that are keeping it relevant. I think the same is happening to MLP. The good news is we are still kind of in theat Boom stage but with the next five years Hasbro plans on having the show run, it will continually slow down in terms of the shows popularity but the fandom will live on and produce content. Anci3ntArtiFact 66 May 27, 2014 Share May 27, 2014 I joined mostly because my crush wore a Pinkie Pie shirt to school one day, and I looked at him, and asked, "What the heck have you got on?" He said "My Little Pony!" Then, when I got home, since he told me to, I watched an episode. Then, another. Then another. I thought, "Wow. That was a good show." So, I joined because my crush told me to... HeroSparks 232 May 27, 2014 Share May 27, 2014 My brother decided he wanted to go to EFNW with me just so he could go somewhere. After I told him what it was he was kinda hesitant so I told him to go check out the fandom, watch the Bronies documentary, and see what the people are actually like. After that he was pretty interested in going to it and meeting people. I told him he should give the show a chance too but I'm not sure if he's watched any yet. So I guess you would count him as joining for the fandom and not the show When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree next to the river of truth, and tell the whole world"No, you move." Felix 1,363 May 27, 2014 Share May 27, 2014 I love the show and watch it fairly often because I want to, but the fandom definitely introduced me to it. I didn't go looking for My Little Pony, it just showed up, because bronies were beginning to be everywhere I went. If not for them, I would have never watched the show. So, I joined the community. I wanted to see if there was a place I could really meet bronies, and there was, here. But, that came from the fact the show and everything about it became an interest of mine, and I wanted to share that with other fans. In a way, I'm a brony for both. Love the show, but if not for bronies, I would have never met some of the amazing people I know today. 1 Credit to Kyoshi for the awesome signature! Steve 290 May 27, 2014 Share May 27, 2014 i joined this show for the show one day on xat, someone asked me if i was a brony. i was like "the fucks a brony?" i then discovered the show by watching a youtube poop of the show. i was like "hey this show actually looks good" i later then discovered the show had a huge fandom. i also discovered the word "fandom" the point is, being a brony means you watch the show. simple; nothing more. however youre more than welcome to just be in the fandom, but i wont consider you a brony 2 Come to my xat http://xat.com/fyrestone PSN/Wii U - STVH1295 3DS FC - 5455 - 9682 - 0735Dueling Network Name - <STVH>
GXPBlast 597 November 19, 2014 Author Share November 19, 2014 I finally met my first IRL brony who is very much like me. More of a fan on the fandom then the show itself. With the exception of a few episodes both of us do not find that much interest in the show but became bronies due to the amazing fan made and overall atmosphere that the brony fandom brings.I met him at the train station and he did not go to my school so I technically it was my first time coming out as a brony to somebody IRL. Andaasonsan 3,205 November 19, 2014 Share November 19, 2014 Okay, just because this is driving me nuts because you keep saying this over and over again. Could you give me an example of fan works that are better than the show? Jan Animations made some pretty high quality stuff before it got shut down, but it was all very short and there wasn't much of it. Beyond that every fan thing I've seen is just sort of like, "huh, considering that the person who was making this had pretty much no budget and is an amateur, this is somewhat decent." Application REJECTED!
Silver Letter 1,832 November 19, 2014 Share November 19, 2014 bronies have more flexibility in terms of making unique plots for their animations without Hasbro getting on the writers case about if what they write is to violent or could scare the children. Lets face it, despite bronies being a large audience, the show is originally catered to kids and some things just wont be allowed on the HUB. Children is the core audience. Also, if people are not fans of the show but are fans of these animations such as those you mentioned then they are not bronies because they are fans of something that isn't the show and has nothing to do with the show. These people are making things that are so far removed from the show that to imply a connection is probably an insult to Lauren Faust. Those that watch them exclusively are really interested in a different sort of thing rather than what My Little Pony is or what it represents. It's hard to say why they do it but I think they are wasting their time and they should go find more appropriate material. My Little Pony is not for them. Silver Letter!!!
