Glory put a hoof on Aqua's shoulder. "Calm down," she said. "I think we just need to sit tight and have something to eat." Now that she realised it, Glory was feeling faint with hunger. She opened her saddlebags and took out some of the supplies that had, mercifully, survived everything so far. "We'll feel better after we have a meal."

Lightning approached Malinter. "So, how did it go with the warlock?" he asked.

Malinter gestured to the Ponies carrying the wrapped up body.

 

 

"He lives. I figured the only chance he had of surviving the ingestion was to put him into a coma. But as with all things of a medical nature I have no idea how long the changes will take and what he changes into."

 

He faced Lightning.

 

"I the other prisioners assume he is dead, better to leave them in the dark... although..."

 

a thought crossed his mind.

 

"They may try and recover his body... his transformation cannot be distrubed. Any pony with sufficent knowledge will realise the fool isn't dead and try to wake him. You've seen the results of that for yourself. Give him the full burial rites, and scent the bandages. If anyone does retrieve him, he'll lead us straight to them."

@@Malinter, "The mares will see to that," Lightning replied. He looked over to where Wish was supervising the burial of the warlock. "Yes, they wrapped the warlock in scented leaves and will place his body in the traditional hanging cage. Those leaves have a scent which will not fade with weather. If anypony tries to retrieve the warlock, we'll find them."

Malinter nodded.

 

"Good.... by the way. That other fellow with the warlock. Soul, I believe. He seems to grasp the nature of the equibane, not its true nature of course, but enough that he might question his fellows reasons for seeking the plant. He may be able to pursue the others to give up on their foolish quest. Is there any chance of him getting 'lost' between here and the ceremony grounds?"

Pious Augustus felt a wince as one of the runes on his back glowed. He could use no runic magic, but Mantorok had painted some runes onto him for emergencies.

"No" Pious murmured as he realized the significance of the rune. It meant Mantorok had been put into such a condition that his mission could not carry on and as such, Pious would get revenge. Pious stepped out of his ramshackle hut and into the ghost town. Mantorok had sent him here a long time ago, obviously it was a good idea.

@@Malinter, "Perhaps," Lightning replied. "He won't stand a chance of surviving in the forest, tho. The big cats would catch him before long. Maybe if you escorted him to the deserted town at the edge of the Badlands..."

 

@, @@00Pony, Sanura heard hoofsteps nearby and stiffened. She nudged her companion. "We have company."

The Crystal Pony royal prince looked at the two ponies in front of him and growled toothily as he saw that one of them was a zebra. Pious had once killed off an entire settlement of them in the name of Sombra, but in his mind, it was justified since they were encroaching. He did not want to run into another traitor to Sombra's name

"What is it? !!! ...." Lykos had a mixed look of emotions amongst which was surprise. They both looked at each other and Artemis handed the enhanted parchement to Glory.

"I will see if i can find some water... maybe there is a local well i can make use of... in the meantime we need to prepare on what to do with the ferals. Not a rescue... but at least attempt to disrupt them. If you could think of a plan to help us in that i would be glad. Lykos will you stay and guard?"

"Of course... You guys are okay with this?" ((OOC:What if on her way out Artemis encountered Sanura and the others?))

"I might be able to help come up with a plan." She says with a soft cough. "However, when it comes to battle I don't know if I will be able to control myself. As you can see, when something strikes my emotions hard... things happen." She motions to the slowly dissipating puddle in the corner of the room. "There was a reason I chose to be a guard honestly. I was hopeful that I could control my emotions, and therefor my magical output. But due to recent events, it seems as though it wasn't very useful. For your safety, I recommend not mentioning ponies may be..."

 

She ends her sentence before saying the word they all dread.

Be sorry about our friends whos' lives are now a true torture. We need to act... but to act we need to be able to think, and to think we need water. I am going to get some for us. Stay here... keep quiet... they might still be around."

She said meaning of course the ferals. She knew not if this part of their territory was under Feral Patrol but she had to take the risk... it was necessary that they find an aquatic source lest they start dehydrating in the heat.

@, @@Aquaspark, "Agreed," Glory said. "In the meantime, I will set up a camp for us in this abandoned house. It would be best for us to build the camp on the first floor, as if we have to, we can fly from the top windows with Aqua supported between us. This is our best advantage over the ferals; they cannot fly. In case of emergency, we can make for the clouds. I will perform the spell for Aqua to make her able to walk on the clouds for a short while. We may not have all the advantages, but we're not beaten yet!"

Soul paced back and forth in his cage. How long was it going to take o have them release him? He looked around, taking in some more sounds and sights, to see if he could spot anything. He heard running water, but that was it. It was dead silent in the forest as he waited for these ponies to decide his fate.

She hoped there would be some water in there left so she could bring to the others. Something however was wrong... she sensed and heard that they were not alone. Hiding in the shadows she heard of figures approaching. She waited for them to do the first move... it would be unwise to interfere immediately with their work. Who where they? Ferals? No they didn't make such fuss like ferals... all the more interesting. What kind of business would they be doing here?

In the meantime Lykos tried to give the others something to do. 

"So tell me... what do you plan on doing with the Equibane once you reach it Glory? This plant is definately not to be used by the general public like that."

@, Glory heaved a sigh. "I don't really know any more," she said. "At first I wanted to use it to help heal sick ponies. Now I know what it does to ponies, I'm not so sure. Maybe I ought to write about it and warn other ponies of its effects so that no other teams are sent into the wilderness to search it out."

It sounds to me like it's a lot like morphine... good at low dosage, but bad should measure be broken. Regardless we will eventually need to inform the Princesses of this event. In the meantime we need to come up with a plan that involves getting our friends out first, and then focusing on the Equibane."

"What do you speak of?" Pious asked, slinking out of the shadows and giving them a critical look. Tch, they looked like rabble. He was a royal prince, speaking to them was not something he'd normally do. Still, he needed information on what had happened to Mantorok. He had last recieved a message that Mantorok had been heading this way, maybe these ponies knew something.

 

"Excuse my intrusion, my most esteemed guests. But it would be a great serendipity to me if you'd inform me on the locale of Mantorok" Pious spoke out, eloquent and smooth

@@Pripyat Pony, @, ((OOC:It would help if you could link me the profile of Pious again)) One of them mentioned a name she was familiar with... Mantorok. At the thought of that she narrowed her eyes... what exactly was Mantorok doing here? What was he up to? Who was this person and how did he know Mantorok and the rest? More importantly how come he came now? Did he know that he was captured? Her mind was filled with questions... she was thinking that those questions needed answers. She had to eventually leave the shadows and speak to him... at least if she did that she could appear more friendly and not make a fight out of this. If she waited too long she would be considered more hostile and that was something she didn't want just yet.

@, @, Glory hesitated before answering. She didn't want to provoke this strange pony. Eventually, she decided to tell the truth. "We were sent here by the Princesses to research a plant named Equibane," she replied. "Manterok was one of that research team. Is he... a friend of yours?"

"Mantorok was my preceptor, indeed, he and I were confidantes" Pious informed, nodding his head as he circled the two, looking at them curiously.  "It appears though that Mantorok has been incapacitated. Can you apprise me as to why?" Pious questioned, licking his sharp teeth to intimidate them a bit

Malinter watched Soul pacing in his cage, He'd been there awhile now but the small pony was so lost in thought he seemed unaware of his presence. A problem he quickly rectified as he approached the cage, making his hoofsteps alittle louder than they needed to be.

 

"I see you've finished reading. I can't even remember the last time any of my fellows even read a book without giving up after a page or two. I suppose i should be grateful they can even speak Equestrian at all..."

 

Malinter opened the cage, practically taking it off the hinges with his teeth and spitting it aside and began walking away without giving Soul so much as an explaination as he began making a new path through the forest, pushing down any tree that got in his way.

 

"You can stay there or follow me if you want to get back to your friends. Your choice." he called back as he continued onwards.

"My apologies about my sudden drowsiness. Several consecutive powerful spells can really drain the energy of a unicorn like myself."

 

She stretches slightly, before putting on a grin.

 

"So tell me, what have I missed since I have been out like a light? Has any progress been made, and what time is it? It is hard to tell these days... what with all the events..."

She held high with her spread wings two buckets of clean fresh water and let them down. It was no suprise that the visitor was still there. She proceeded to talk as soon as she was done with her job.

"Confidantes huh? That so? Perhaps then you would explain to me how you know if he has been incapacitated? What is his job here anyways... i am sure it's not the same as ours..."

Soul was shocked that Malinter was letting him go. Trotting over to his bag, he put on his armor. It was still slightly dented from the Pegasus landing on it, but it would work, none-the-less. He moved Quickly and caught up to Malinter, who by this point was at the tree line.

 

"Thank you for letting me go, Malinter. I'll give this book and your notes to the rest of the group, as that's what we came here for, Information. My only fear is that they might try to come back for the plant itself or to try and recover Mantorok's Body. I'll try to convince them otherwise, but I cannot make any promises. But do I have your word that if they do return, you will not hurt them? I also do not know how Luna and Celestia will react if we don't return with the plant..."

"The warlock is a lost cause, even in death, We do not bury our dead. To do so causes the Equibane in the body to rapidly consume the host and bloom, From there, the plant will spread and rapidly drain all nutrients from the earth until nothing can grow. You saw the badlands did you not? Long ago, these were fertile lands until the Equibane reduced it all to dust. You cannot take him back with you."

 

Malinter sighed.

 

"Again and again she sends ponies to their deaths. Not one of them was ever told the truth about the plant... unless of course your going to prove me wrong?"
