Kelario 95 March 28, 2014 Share March 28, 2014 (edited) (Updated detail.) I recently discovered that most of the idiots at my school have Twatters as well as Facenovels. The things that makes Twitter better for trolling than Facebook are 1) no requirement for a real name, and 2) things from outsiders don't go to a junk mail folder. These leave me a straight shot to hilarity as people get totally frustrated at my snide comments and yet have to put up with them because they don't know who I am. What I intend to do is crack jokes about things they've said in class, and include their Twitter tag, or name, or whatever comes after the @. They'll have to see it, and they'll know that it's somebody from school but because of the fake name they won't be able to identify him. They'll talk about it in school, and I can taunt and trash talk them from there. I'm going after the popular guy and his worshippers. Should I do this? Vote now. Ribbonfree 2,383 March 29, 2014 Share March 29, 2014 True trolling is witty and usually attacks a concept or an action more than it does an individual person. If you are to go on this path, you have my blessing. But the art of trolling is a delicate one, and you must never stray from the path into the darkness of straight up douchebaggery.

Pixel Stick 927 March 29, 2014 Share March 29, 2014 I personally wouldn't do this, and I'm going to explain why in terms of a My Little Pony episode. Reason 1: Remember when the CMC started writing nasty gossip columns as "Gabby Gums" in "Ponyville Confidential"? At first, it was lighthearted humor, and Gabby Gums was anonymous and could get away with quite a bit. But over time, only partly because of Diamond Tiara's insatiable hunger for "more juice", the gossip started to go out of control, until it was directly targeting the CMC's friends and family and genuinely hurting their feelings. (They made Fluttershy cry, 'nuff said. ) What you're proposing to do is really not much different from this. And trust me, you'll start out innocently enough, commenting on some little thing you noticed in class, or making fun of the color of someone's shirt, or calling one of your friends a funny name. But you will find that you're not going to be satisfied with that for long. It WILL start getting nastier. You WILL start being an ass, whether you intend to or not. You'll find it's not really fun anymore to do the light trolling, and if you want to keep it up at all, you're going to start looking for more provocative things to say about people that you'll probably end up regretting. Reason 2: Sweetie Belle got caught. And when she did, all of Ponyville turned their backs on the CMC, and shunned them until they publicly apologized for their gossip. You aren't going to be able to keep your Twitter feed a secret forever. Eventually, you'll show it to someone, or someone will catch you in the act, or someone will recognize a pattern between what you post and how you talk and write in class, and eventually people will figure out it's you. And then you're going to be in a LOT of trouble - you're going to alienate at least some of your friends, and you're going to make enemies. And, I'm afraid to say, the response you get from some will not be nearly as kind as it was in the episode. Don't do it. It's not worth it. ~SadisticFluttershy~ 779 March 29, 2014 Share March 29, 2014 To be honest, no. You shouldn't be an asshole to people even if they are assholes to you. Just leave them alone, ignore them. That's the best solution I can give you. I have Facebook to keep track of my friends, team mates and other things. I use Twitter to get out weather warnings, watches etc. 6 year study meteorology student. Radar Tech for several teams. Link to my twitter is in my profile if you want to follow me. Satsuki Kiryuin 1,155 March 29, 2014 Share March 29, 2014 Trolling is just an excuse to be an asshole to people. The internet allows anonymity and that makes people feel like they can act like Keyboard Warriors. They act tough behind a computer screen, but when they're called out and caught, they slither away like snakes. (The bad kind of snakes! I don't mean to upset Chigens. QnQ) Honestly, what is the point of trolling? It's just an excuse to be an absolute jerk to people. If you honestly hate someone, say it to their face, not hide behind a computer screen complaining about them. 1 ~Felicity~ @OtarineMusic | Otty's Facebook | Otty's Youtube | Otty's Soundcloud | Otty's Bandcamp

Kelario 95 March 30, 2014 Author Share March 30, 2014 Oh by the way, in case it might be classified by some as cyberbullying: I looked up the laws in my state. The law that comes closest to banning cyberbullying bans only electronic threats, a harassment charge. There is a proposed law that just passed committee in the state senate that covers it, but only in severe cases to which my feeble attempt does not live up. By existing law, they really can't nail me. "[Hitler] was a political genius. He got half of Europe just by asking. He had Germany working and everything was in his favor. By existing law, they really can't nail me. That doesn't mean the people you're targeting aren't going to rip you a new one when they figure out it's you. Just because something is technically legal doesn't make it a good idea. Also, you do realize that you may be violating Twitter's terms of service, right? I could report your feed even though I'm not involved, and Twitter would be totally in their right to shut it down. Possibly even worse for you - anyone on this forum, now that you've told us about it, could send our own tweets to the people you've targeted and point them at this thread, making it much easier for them to identify you. I personally won't do either of these things, but that is a very real risk you're taking. Pro tip: if you're going to troll people, stay anonymous. 2 If you wanna make the world a better place, Take a look at yourself, then make a change. -- Michael Jackson
