Envy 6,270 August 22, 2014 Share August 22, 2014 Lol. Typical Brony hatred of the older generations. I'm so happy that I ventured out and tried the older generations after coming to love FiM/G4, despite the ignorant opinions of this fandom constantly being put into my head. I had some background with G3, but not much. Either way, I passed it up because I was still in my preteen phase (even though it was really my early teens. >.>) and had no interest in toys and cartoons at the time. Either way my interest really started with G4, but I'm happy I looked back. I never had much interest in collecting the actual G4 toys... I mean, they're cute and everything, but I fell in love with G4's cartoon's style. I've done the reverse with G3. I went back and looked at the toys, and there's so much more to them... They're larger and have so much variety. And I think they're my favorite of all MLP toys, and I've already collected a few! Hm... Pretty sure I had a point with this post, but it's been lost... I will stop. xD I'm just gonna say say what everyone else has already said: G1 is okay, G2 and G3 are garbage, G4 is da bomb. Not "everybody" has said any such things. Hardly anybody has spoken on G2, because almost nobody here even knows what G2 actually is. It was just a toy line, and while it's design wasn't my favorite, it most certainly isn't "garbage": For the record, this is how I would put the generations, personally: G1: Good G2: Okay G3: Okay (aside from the toys, I love the toys) G3.5: Was for a younger audience than the rest of the generations, therefore I won't judge it... It's not my place. G4: My favorite. Everything needs more woodwind!

When I said 'everyone', by the way, it was a general term. Not literal. OBVIOUSLY I know that people like the older generations. Anyway, I'm sorry that, like most peoples' opinions, my opinion is that the older generations are not very good. Yes, you can have your OPINION on thinking the older stuff is good and that's okay with me. But please, do try to keep your elitist, 'holier than thou' attitude out of here. Calling people ignorant because their opinion is different than yours is downright childish. Edited August 22, 2014 by Soctavia Socks make everything better. Calling people ignorant because their opinion is different than yours is downright childish. Well excuse me, but I do have a very hard time finding an opinion respectable that calls something "garbage". Calling something "garbage" has always had such extreme connotations in my mind that definitely make it come off as elitist to me. My speaking of the "ignorance" is not talking about the fact that some people will not like the earlier generations. It comes from very popular sentiments expressed by this fandom from the very beginning. Lately there seems to have been a little more interest by Bronies to explore the older generations, but beforehand it was always "Ew. MLP was so girly before FiM". That's just a 'fad' opinion that for most ends up being based on the words of others and not an actual opinion based on their own. And, of course, there is the complete ignorance of G2 in this fandom. Anybody who knows anything about G2 knows that MLP Tales was not a part of it. Everything needs more woodwind! Yummychickenblue 303 August 23, 2014 Share August 23, 2014 Well as long as you like G3.5 I mean seriously, not even FiM can top the amazingness of Newborn Cuties. /sarcasm Check out my EQTV channel The Chicken Coop!
Fractured 2,684 August 23, 2014 Share August 23, 2014 Having just picked up G1, I can safely say it's not girly. It's like FIM in that ponies can act girly, but it doesn't make them girly. They're actually rather competent and solve their own problems. They also prefer the hands on approach when it comes to confrontation; the amount of times that people have been hoofed in the face is...rather ridiculous, actually. They only run away when its to form a plan; considering the people they're fighting against, it's a rather smart plan. Produced by the phenomenal J.R. Nightfall Gloam 18,272 August 23, 2014 Share August 23, 2014 My opinion on the different MLP generations: G1 (the Rescue from Midnight Castle special was okay but, the characters are kind of forgettable, the actual show itself though, would probably be a meh) Tales (I didn't really like Tales that much at all) G3/G3.5 (Haven't seen it at all but do plan on seeing it. Someone give me a beer, I think I'm going to need it) G4 (It's pretty obvious that I like it) But, regardless of my opinions on the media portion of the MLP franchise, I would LOVE to buy some vintage toys to add to my MLP collection 1 Aspiring animator/illustrator, founder of MLPF's Lighthoof and Shimmy Shake fan club! Snow Frostflame 3,568 August 23, 2014 Share August 23, 2014 G1 and G2 I have never seen and have no plans on seeing as for G3 It is great I have no idea why everyone hates it, it really isn't that bad as everyone says it is also a lot of the ideas from G4 were taken from G1 G2 and G3 so why don't you think of that next time you bash the older generations
Thunderstreak 136 August 23, 2014 Share August 23, 2014 Can't say I'm really into the other gens. I watched one of them on vacation a couple weeks back, I think it was G3 but I couldn't get into it. All the characters sounded the same, and they seemed to have flat personalities, It's cool if you like the other gens, but they're just not for me. Ziggy + Angel + Rain 11,303 August 23, 2014 Share August 23, 2014 I haven't really seen enough of past gens (or don't recall enough of them) to say I either like or dislike them. Though what little I've seen of 3 or 3.5 both frightens AND intrigues me lol. All I can really say is that I enjoy this gen. And I appreciate it all the more because it introduced me to my Rainbow Dash. "It uses the faculty of what you call imagination. But that does not mean making things up. Everleaf 541 August 23, 2014 Share August 23, 2014 Well to be honest I like G1 and respect G2 and G3 so I don't really agree but I also respect your thoughts on it. The deepest of the Everfree!
Heliodor 156 August 23, 2014 Share August 23, 2014 "I don't like G1, G2, and G3! Does anyone else?" Uhhhhh isn't that like 99.5% of the brony fandom (unlike me). Since most just continually complain about previous gens.
Countsp00ky 23 August 23, 2014 Share August 23, 2014 I haven't seen G1, 2, or 3; but from what I have gathered, I'd probably dislike it immensely. G4 is the shizzness though.

Depends on what you're into. G1 is surprisingly dark, and the characters amazingly realistic. The villains are threatening, and pretty intelligent, considering the time period. Even the ponies, although they're flat, are pretty varied; they have arguments, they get into fights, etc. Watch or don't watch, all I can say is it's not a bad show, and that anyone who that discounts it for being too girly has probably never watched it.(The pilots are actually the worst episodes, imo, I wouldn't really count them as "having seen the show".)
