Clear Skies, Cold Hearts

 

Once, there was a mare that was loved. But not by one stallion. Neigh! She captured the hearts and minds of the world. The sweep of her hoof was as the wind stirring the most gorgeous blossoms. Her mane flowed and roared like the vast oceans, catching all of the unwary in its grasp! The sun and moon duplicate on her face observed the whole world bow in awe. A name, oh what a name she has, Radiant Heart! That utterance made the mountains themselves bend in awe. For all of creation would have groveled just to be by her side.

But be wary ponies, griffons, and all things that live in harmony. Where there is beauty, there is jealousy! All of the world loved her, but none would be content until she was theirs alone. A spark, there never was one more deadly than the flint struck by Radiant Heart herself, to set the world ablaze in passion. For though the mare was loved, she could not give love to them all as they so desired. Never so lonely was there a mare as one put on a pedestal by all existence, leaving her so far away from anything and everything.

But there was one, a stallion of true nobility, the steel for the flint! His heart held only pity for her. He alone saw past her beauty and witnessed the agony inside. His name, Shining Noon! Never was there such a name that captured the hatred of all living beings into one place. Because it was he alone that Radiant Heart came to love, and learned to truly be her other half! In rage, the world collected struck at itself quicker than the lash of a viper; tearing all that was asunder! But my brothers and sisters, this time has long been forgotten; hidden away from all hearts and souls but two, for the sake of peace and harmony! It is we few that remember, we remember the day that the Sky fell!

Plot:
Once, there was a mare of such beauty that even the sun and moon fawned upon her, each pony seeking her attention. This mare's coat was of the purest purples and blues, mixing in a wonderful cascade of hues. Her eyes were like the stars, brilliant but cold. Even her mane and hooves were absolutely perfect, never seeming to be disturbed by dirt, wind, or motion. Everypony loved her like none other and all despaired, for she would not give her heart to anypony, for fear of the others. In time, certain ponies became jealous of each other for imagined favors that the mare had given them. Chaos broke out and for one of the few times in Equestrian history every sentient being in the world went to war.

But among those who sought her, there was one particular pony who held her heart firmly in his own. Shining Noon, the Alicorn Lord of the Pegasi and relative to Celestia herself. Each time she saw him, her soul strained to be nearby, but she could not lest he be set upon by ponies everywhere. Perhaps alone amongst ponies, he was one who was not blinded by her dazzling charms and luxurious mane. He could see deep into her soul, knowing that they were forever to be seperated by fate. His love was one not of desire, but of purity of soul. He sought her because they knew each other like none other, lonely islands amongst a sea of emotions.

One fateful night, all the forces seeking her came together at once at the mountain Highhorn, the tallest peak in the known world. Magic flowed like water and ponies fought each other like those possessed. The whole affair threatened to tear the world asunder. In one final effort to obtain Azure Dawn's companionship forever, Shining Noon unleashed a terrible spell upon all present at the event. Thousands were forever frozen in stone, paused mid-battle. Those powerful enough to escape did so, but all paid a terrible price. Their memories would be forever wiped of anypony and everything before the spell and all would have that portion of their soul locked for all eternity.

Shining Noon himself was consumed by the spell, sending shattered peices of his existance across the world in small crystalline meteorites. However, all did not go as planned. Azure Dawn was horribly mangled by the spell, ruining her features, soul, and mind. In addition, it encased her in stone as all the others, likely to be kept that way until the end of days.

Recently, an archaelogical expidition has discovered the battlefield atop Mt. Highhorn. You are one of these brave souls who would venture into the dark secrets of the past, or maybe you are simply a simple pony here for your own reasons. Whatever reason you are here, now is the time to be wary, for whatever lurks inside the forsaken monument is best left undiscovered.

Summarized Plot:
Long ago a terrible curse was cast by a long dead Alicorn that froze thousands of ponies and otherwise in stone. The location has been extremely hard to find and has only been recently been rediscovered. Atop a snowy mountain-peak at the top of the world, a wasteland of broken statues stare into the distance, forever stopped in their last moment. An archaelogical expedition has begun to search the ruins, looking for answers. Why is this place here? What happened? Who are these ponies? When will the sun ever rise and end this night?

Enemies!:

First Tier: Perhaps the weakest of denziens that walk the ancient tombs and frosty wastes, these creatures are also the highest in number, making some of them dangerous opponents should they gather into a large enough group. Some of these may even be components of larger abomonations.

Wind Wisps: Whatever these once were, all they consist of are concentrated wind and ice flakes. Though their true intentions are unclear, they are generally predictable. As long as you keep quiet and don't bring a flame out, they will remain passive, tending to follow you a few dozen meters before moving along. Literally hundreds of these things can be present in the same space at one time. While nearly harmless on their own, a swarm of these can freeze a pony solid if he is not careful.

A very well written backstory, and a very intriguing idea for a roleplay!

 

Only thing is, I'm not sure which of my characters would best suit this roleplay (most likely Galatea, I suppose), and I'm not sure what role they would have in this particular situation - or rather, a believable reason for them to be there.

Both of your characters would be of value to an archaeological expedition. Gala would likely be there for her engineering expertise, as the structures need to be declared safe or prepared to be as such. As well, the logistical aspect would likely be in her realm. As for Ariel, I'm not too sure about her. This occurs at (roughly) the same time period as the Canon MLP series, so her being from the future doesn't make sense.

Nano, Galatea and Ariel all originate from a future time period - but have all more or less found their way to the present-day timeline of Equestria.

Even so, I think that Gala is of a better temperament to this rp. (Her being from the future isn't really a big problem. With Ariel it was more how the future affected her.)

Personality: Galatea is a generally serious, no-nonsense mare that likes to focus on the task at hoof. She acts polite / friendly enough towards other ponies, but tends to keep herself emotionally distant in that she typically avoids letting herself get too close to another pony.
Talents: Her primary talent is engineering. She has a special affinity for any sort of technology, and is skilled with resourcefulness and problem-solving.

Hello. It has been a long time. How have you been?

 

This concept, it intrigues me so. What exactly are you looking for in these characters so that I can deliver a decent character and not one that you would think to be overpowered?

It has indeed been a long time! Nice to see you.

 

This is a mix between a mystery (search/discovery/mental puzzle) rp and a dungeon crawler, as it is initially planned. Though there are a couple of different routes to take depending on player preferences. The ultimate goal for the initial arc is to uncover the mystery/conspiracy behind the forgotten tomb/battlefield. Enemies will occasionally pop in as well.

 

Almost anyone would have a place being on such an expedition. Everything from wizards to simple laborers. As for general power level, I would say that a Princess Royal Guard or a Mage from the Princess's wizard school would be the upper limit.

Well, as a merchant he could be a supplier of mining tools to the excavation team. He could be up there as his merchant form when it's discovered, and sticks around for money (after all, old artifacts sell for a LOT, and he could sell a few to collectors, museums, ect.)

Species: Earth Pony

Personality: Mach is generally a nice guy. He always listens and helps out.

At least when needed. When Machs not helping people he's doing ridiculously dangerous stunts. But somehow he almost never fails, this is where his true talent comes in. He doesnt want anyone to know he's secretly a genius.

 

Talents: Mach's talent may seem like his Daredevil Stunts but it's all in the head in this case quite literally. He is incredibly smart. So smart he can plan out his stunts turn out while simultaneously doing the stunt. This allows him to execute his stunts perfectly. His cutie mark a Flaming Brain which he says is because of his hot head Daredevil nature.
