It depends on what you like in terms of getting stuff. Usually I bring roughly $20 in merch money because I don't like buying things on principal, but I do like getting keepsakes for a con and that's always in the form of an art print or two. If you like buying lots of posters, prints, if you want to get commissions... If you want plushies or something, that's expensive. WeLoveFine, the shirt and hoodie guys, are expensive. I've heard of people going above $100 at a single con. But here at pony cons I don't think any single purchase will run you over $50. It all depends on how much of (X) you want.

This is a very interesting answer because if it wasn't for the vendors paying for vendor space, our tickets would cost more.  Vendors pay to be there and if we all didn't purchase anything on principal, we would be sending people home who worked very hard for the con and put out a lot of money to be there.  Not to mention if vendor space is not desirable, you can kiss the next con goodbye.  It really is a big part of the revenue of the con.

@lyra_brony_swag There is another topic on here that also talks about the money but you know what you will want to buy.  There will be a wide variety of merchandise from inexpensive up to very high end hand made plushies.   The autographs will cost money and of course you have to pay for food, hotel tips, etc.  I tend to gravitate toward the rare high end items and those vendors will more than likely take credit cards.  Not sure if you have one you can use but if you do, bring $100 to $200 in cash and a credit card and that will probably cover it.

I am aware of that, but I'm personally not a big spender. I understand people who are, but I neither have the actual money nor the inclination to spend as much as you recommended. I wasn't even telling lyra to not buy a lot. I was just giving her a guideline by which she could estimate the amount she needed.

Please don't get me wrong.  Everypony has their own comfort spending level.  I was just surprised by your comment that you don't buy things on principal.  Sorry if I misunderstood you.

Just a tip, if this is like the HP cons I've been to; bringing cash is a very good idea (if you can.) You do want to be sensible and secure about it, not leave it lying around either on your person or in your room, but at the same time, some vendors either don't take cash or aren't set up for it, autographs do take money, and also, you can set yourself a limit that way. You're bringing X amount of dollars to spend, and no more. That way you don't come home to a giant credit card bill.

Lol, when I attended Further Confusion one year and since they're the same people helping to run this con sorta... I once brought over one thousand dollars to spend on whatever the heck I wanted. :P
