Almost as Beautiful as You *Critique Wanted*

Hello there!

 

So now, before you  post a comment critiquing me of my taste in shipping, I'd like to say that I'd like some critique on the image itself, not the ship. Just putting it out there.

 

So I was extremely bored today, and I made this. I'd like your honest thoughts, opinions and critiques on it, even if you feel like you are nitpicking. Keep in mind that giving me a candy-coated marshmallow of a critique won't get me anywhere and that critiques are not taken personally so don't feel bad! Without further ado, behold:

If you cut out the ponies I think it would make for a heck of a nice piece of art. 

Rarity looks ugly, Fluttershy is okay. 7/10.

Overall pretty nice, couple of things though:

First of all, I really like the general shading on the ponies, especially on their manes. Far batter than anything I could manage without linework.

Now to the things that don't work quite so well:

-there are some anatomical hiccups in the legs (Fluttershy's left foreleg, Rarities forelegs clipping through each other)

-the shading inside the ears seems a bit too dark to me

-the upper part of Rarity's mane doesn't seem to be attached to her head

-Rarity's scarf could use some extending past her body outline

-the terrain doesn't make much sense (there should be earth and plants covering the stone slopes and the tops

 

Most importantly though, the colours on the ponies and the grass don't match the night time setting, which separates them from the sky portion of the pic. With some googling you can probably find a tutorial for adjusting the colours.

very nice! i like your style!  its really nice that the viewer can tell objects apart with just shading.  that being said, ive a few pointers.

shadows are almost always cool colours, though not always just black washed over the original colour.  rarity is a nice subject for me because her coat is white.  white is wonderful because it reflects all colours--which means you can shade her with any colour you like--blue, purple, a green even.

you have a lot of saturation going on--your colours are very bright.  its not bad but the grass is competing with the girls for your eyes attention. you have a lot of cool colours in the background, but the grass is a little too warm i think. fluttershy is a good contrast here.

composition is nice, all lines are either pointing at them, or their own body lines lead your eye around in between them.  thats good AND theyre not smack in the center
