Psychology and MLP

Hi, guys. I was wondering if you could help me in any way. Sooo for my Psych class, our final project is to do a research paper. As in we choose something, we collect data about it, we analyse our data, and we write about it. I want to do something related to MLP but I really don't know where to begin.

 

The only real idea I have right now is seeing if I can work with one of the elementary school classes and possibly do a survey to see the effects that a certain episode would have on their opinion of the characters. I would maybe have them circle the picture of their favorite pony of the main 6 and then have them watch an episode with a prominent character role (I was thinking Magical Mystery Cure) to see if more children would change their opinion and on a second survey, more people would circle Twilight as their favorite. But I'm not really sure how I would make this work or anything like that.

 

If you guys have any suggestions that could make my idea better, or if you have any ideas for a project of your own that I could borrow, I would reallyyyyyy appreciate it. Thanks so much.

Hmm.  When I think about writing a research paper related to MLP for a psych class, I immediately think about analyzing why there is so much hatred of bronies out there.  But interviewing anti-bronies may not be something you want to touch.  And who could blame you?  But here's a post I made on the Warframe forums when I first became a brony.  I made some observations and theories about the controversy.  Feel free to steal any of my ideas if you want.

Another thing I often think about is how little girls are encouraged to watch shows celebrating the magic of friendship, and little boys are encouraged to watch shows where aliens and robots blow each other up.  And the overwhelming majority of all violent crimes are commited by men.  Connection?  Maybe?  What if it was made completely socially acceptable, not just acceptable, but encouraged for boys to watch MLP.  Would we see a decrease in aggression over generations?  I really don't know, but it's just interesting stuff to think about.

 

Anyway, these ideas might not be very plausible for you to write about.  I'm not sure how you'd actually gather tangible data and analyze it.  Just throwin out some ideas.  Do with it what you will.

You could study gender roles. The fine gentleman above me touched on this, but you cold look at the kinds of toys each gender plays with, why, and what kind of effect those toys have on their self image. Then look at why boys are accepting something intended for girls, why that is, and what kind of impact it has on them.

I know about this haha, I actually did a survey for them. But I still have to conduct my own research. It's a high school project. It's not supposed to change the world.
