Pony Generations:Ages of Lyra, Cheerlee and Mayor Mare.. Are they in their 40s

Some people don't deem the comics canon. I honestly do, because it's an expanded universe and writing off IDW's talented writers is kind of crappy. Just check this picture below.

Now this leads me to one thing. Remember Big Mac and Cheerlee? Only two possible scenarios

 

1.) Big Mac is from generation X

2.) Big Mac loves older mares 

 

Now the mane 6 were foals in the 80s(in pony terms) so Cadence and Shining Armor were born at least from 1969 to 1974. Feel free to come up with a theory.

Ponies don't age like humans, though - also, we know that Equestria runs off of a different timeframe than the human world, because while the mane 6 are shown to be young adults in FiM, they're still teenagers in the EQG universe, which is closer to our world than Equestria is.

 

So, while I can the ponies mentioned being a bit older, I think that it's only a 5 to 7 year difference, at most

I know some don't see EQ as canon. I personally do because of Sunset Shimmer and it being a prequel to season 4. I find it funny that Lyra is in Cheerlee's generation. Lyra always seemed to me, to be the same age as the mane 6.

I've always thought of the Mane 6 as young adults, whereas Cherilee and Lyra are a few years older. Mayor Mare seems to be old, but not as old as Granny Smith. 

 

I don't take Equestria Girls into account for various reasons, and I usually just go off of the show itself.

The biggest reason I don't consider the comics canon is because the tone is so different from the show. They're targeted at a very different audience, and work best as supplemental material. (I don't dislike them on their own, but I see them as an AU. The show has a different flavour.) The writers have said the comics may be seen as canon or non-canon anyway, so it's entirely personal opinion. Considering them non-canon isn't writing off the talent behind it; I can appreciate them, I just think of them as separate.

 

Keep in mind that if you're assuming Lyra, Cheerilee and Mayor Mare are in their 40's, so are Cadence and Shining Armour. They were in the same year group. I just can't see that.

 

I see Lyra being about the same age as Twilight, Cheerilee probably early 30's, and Mayor Mare late 40's early 50's.

Mayor Mare is definitely at least in her 40's and possibly even 50's but I doubt that Cheerilee is that old if anything I see her as early 30's at the oldest and same with Lyra.

I always remember a filly that looked a lot like Cheerilee in the Cutie Mark Chronicles and the general consensus was that it was her and she's the same age as, at least, Rarity. Mayor Mare is definitely middle aged (50-60) and Mrs. Cake is getting toward middle age and in her late 30s or mid 40s. Shinning Armor and Cadence are late 20s and in my mind Cadence is a bit younger. But this is all head canon and we have no canon ages and may never.

Hints is about all we have and the Mane 6 are all careermares. We like to think of them as younger, but they are all adults and post school. Twenty something's in my mind. Ms. Cheerilee fits that mold perfectly.

Don't try to estimate the year cartoon characters are born, since they're not aging.

It's maybe true now, but if the show is still running after 5 years, it wouldn't be true anymore.

Cheerilee showed her distinctly 80's self to her class in an old photo in one episode, however. Furthermore, in The Cutie Mark Chronicles, it looked like Rarity and Cheerilee were in the same class, as a filly who looks a lot like Cheerilee was on stage.

 

So, age wise, Lyra and Cheerilee I'd lump in with the rest of the Mane 6 as being in their early 20s (equivalently to humans). Cadence and Shining Armour seem late twenties to early thirties. Mayor Mare I could see as being forties, as it takes a long career of public service, usually, to get to be mayor.

At the very least, Cheerilee is not that old. in S1E23 Cutie Mark Chronicles that Cheerilee and Rarity are approximately the same age, since they went to school together.

I know the comics aren't accepted by most people. But Latie Cook and IDW are employed by Hasbro and the comic writers need to be relevant to the show to some extent. Because The mane 6 are around the same ages all together.

I'm not saying they aren't canon. I think they're a parallel canon, just like Equestria Girls.

And yet things like computers or televisions don't exist.

 

Trying to map the series to an equivalent human timeline is impossible. Don't assume that just because Cheerilee dressed like she was from "our" 1980s, that the picture of her is 30 years old.

 

MLP mixes and matches cultural elements from different *centuries,* so don't try to map things out based on 80s looking fashions.
