Open mindedness is a key part of what I'd look for in a relationship, because I'm weird and ever evolving, so keeping up with me would need a flexible mind and spirit. So at the very least tolerance of the pony would be minimally needed for a happy times.

My wife doesn't judge my love of the show, but she doesn't watch it with me. While I wish she would, I'm okay that she doesn't. We were married before I got into the show, and the only differences it made were...

1. She teases me about it from time to time (in a loving manner)

Same here. I've been married 17 years this June and I've been involved in geek culture my entire life. She already knew that she would have to tolerate some aspect of sci-fi, anime, gaming, animation, etc before we were serious. I think that the only thing that we both loved was Harry Potter. When I first told her that our kids seem to be trying to 'recruit' me, she was the one who told be she was shocked that I wasn't already a Brony. She has dropped the little joke here and there, but she isn't a fan herself outside of what you would call a respect for the intent of the show and the fanbase in general.

I don't expect anyone I date to be into ponies but do expect them to accept my interest in that.

although, trying paint my partner red and drawing an apple on his butt might be pushing it a little bit... but only a little XD

Even if I wasn't into ponies I would probably like that, sounds delightfully kinky.

  • 1 year later...

My significant other is a fan of MLP and creates lots of pony art, but I personally wouldn't mind if they felt differently about the show, provided they could respect the fact that I watch it.

Let's see, out of my girlfriends through high school and college...one is a big fan, and is actually a member here. The other three weren't fans, and only one was/is crazy.
