What we should be teaching children

Here is what we should be teaching children:

-Face your fears, don't let them control you

-Think for yourself and assume nothing

-Be the leader of your own life

-Be responsible for your own life and your own actions

-Compete for the sake of competing in everything you do, both to better yourself and others

-Live for achievement and the moment, dream big. Don't expect and rely on wishes to come true, hope for them and do your best to make it happen.

-Accept your fate and learn from it

Would anyone disagree with these things?

Here is what [it seems to me] we are teaching children

-Scared? Hide, call the cops, tell a teacher, see a psychologist, do anything but address the fear head on. You need professional help in ALL cases

-You must have factual evidence to support an opinion other than your teachers, professor's, elder's, senior's, etc. in any field of social science or you're wrong

-Obey your leaders, they're better people than you.

-Accept that others are responsible for your life and if you do anything wrong then you're an outcast of society and probably mentally unstable

-If someone is better than you at something accept it

-Live for comfort, wish and wait for things to happen to you. Dream for mediocrity, if you were capable of being the best you would have been born a prodigy

-Don't accept your fate, blame others for it and sue them if you're likely to get away with it

lol. Seems funny but this is the kind of vibe I'm feeling from the grand old United States right now

All and all I agree with what you're saying. In Russia we lived by those guidelines.

In my family there were two extra ones though. Be a Communist and have a amazing beard.

Completely agree with you on this hollow shield.

If and when I have childre, I would hope to raise them up in that way.

Mainstream society often in todays world seems to have those effects on people.

If something is factual are you saying evidence doesn't matter? Or am I misuderstanding? Otherwise I agree with everything else. It's why I tend to avoid most mainstream society garbage.

I think he means you have to have evidence unless you're important, or what you're saying you got from an important person.

But anyway, I especially agree with that last one. Whenever something bad happens, everybody rushes to find somebody to blame instead of trying to fix it. Hardly anybody is accountable for their actions anymore, they just find some person or event or situation that made it happen :(

Fields of social sciences are like psychology, philosophy, politics etc. professors will often speak as if their opinions are factual, and many students are hard pressed to argue against many of them because their opinions on such things are either suppressed or the professor will be condescending towards them until they're cornered and can no longer argue. So they're pressured into accepting that way of thinking both by the professor and the surrounding students who may have been indoctrinated the same way

But the truth is these fields of study are purely speculative, and while you can have statistics to back up a point it doesn't really amount to much because the fields are infinitely complex. What I meant by that line is that you're pretty much expected to have statistics to back up points in these fields ,despite them not even amounting to much, or your opinion is ignored or looked down upon.

And the situation is laughable, because even if you do have statistics, the opposing side will be able to bring up statistics of their own because ultimately if you look you can find a statistic that promotes almost if not all conceivable positions in one way or another

Ah yes, the 'grand old united states' has quite frankly gone down the drain since Nixon I believe. These days, the government is filled with corrupt politicians who accomplish nothing more than pissing each other off. And with all that utter bull crap such as the Patriot Act and the NDAA bill. The first one I definatley see. 'Course now, most cops I see are as crooked as a cane. Things like these that make me wish I could find a lad to bring back Thomas Jefferson an' have him talk some since into people.. Apologize if I sound like some radical nut, just tired of seeing our country being turned into the France Monarchy of 1765...

Don't sound like a radical nut at all to me. But I'm something of an anarchist, so I guess that shouldn't be surprising lol

I agree with this, especially the "professional help" thing. As a young lad, any issues I had were always resolved by this crappy little "guidance counsellor" we had, who basically just told us to say sorry and promise not to do it again. Screw that - it don't work, son! If our parents hadn't raised us into violent, capitalistic snots as is the social norm, we'd eventually learn to solve our own damn problems. Everything just leads back to human nature when you think about it, so everything we should be teaching is basically asking humans to become a whole new species.

Someone really likes Ayn Rand. :P

I agree with some of the ends of her philosophy, I completely disagree with the entirety of her premise behind it however.

For the scared point, are you referring to bullies, or like phobias? Like fear of height.

What's wrong with teaching that? Or is it just in your social sciences?

If someone is better than you at something accept it.

Nothing wrong with that. Do you mean, accept it and never try to get past it?

Live for comfort, wish and wait for things to happen to you. Dream for mediocrity, if you were capable of being the best you would have been born a prodigy.

Are you sure you're hearing this? I mean, the majority of kids get told they'll do amazing. From their parents and their teachers. I don't hear any negative feedback. Really, we need some of the you'll be mediocre stuff. It'll certainly help kids be grounded, so they know they'll have to actually put work into something to get better at it.
