Embedding Pony.fm tracks on MLP Forums and other sites

It is now possible to Pony.fm track in a post right here on MLP Forums! This is how it looks:

https://pony.fm/tracks/1-grim-tellings

Much like the rest of the site, the embedded player is not in its final design. It will be redesigned along with the rest of the site once the site is a bit closer to beta. But hey, it works!

Artists, you're welcome to share your Pony.fm uploads here on MLP Forums in Octavia's Hall or anywhere else using the embedded player. Using it functions exactly like embedding YouTube videos - just paste the URL to your track into the editor...

...and it will automagically become a Pony.fm player. The [media] tag is also supported, should you prefer to use that.

If you have your own site you'd like to embed a Pony.fm track on, this is what the HTML code looks like:

<iframe src="https://pony.fm/t1/embed" width="100%" height="150" allowTransparency="true" frameborder="0" seamless allowfullscreen></iframe>

Just replace the "1" in "/t1/embed" with the ID of the track you wish to embed, and its embedded player will come up.

Finally, have a teaser: a feature for embedding tracks on sites that don't have built-in support for Pony.fm (like MLP Forums now does), or allow you to use custom HTML, is coming soon!

the media player doesn't seem to embed on my end. i guess that's being worked on, though?

An issue was indeed discovered with Firefox not handling the embedded player correctly. I'll be looking into that, thanks!

This is really great! I think it'd be cool if you could comment on the song directly from the embed. Although that's not really that important, since you can click the link to the song directly above the embedded player.

Sounds neat, but can I please ask you to repost that idea in the QA forum, PhonyBrony? It's worth discussing properly with the team.

now it shows a copy of the entire website in the embed rather than a small media player. :S

I just wrapped up a major rewrite of the embedded player. Take another look now?

I'm using Firefox or to be precise a Firefox based browser and the embedded player is working fine for me. It doesn't look the same as the picture though but I assume the design must of changed at some point during development and the picture is outdated.

As I said in my last comment, I rewrote the entire player from scratch yesterday. :P The picture became outdated less than 24 hours after I wrote this blog entry.

That's the nature of alpha software - rapid development, rapid changes!

Wow, you are most certainly the best web-dev I have ever seen.

I mean, talk about rapid development. A power Linux (or at least Mac) user, too, I assume?

I'm actually a devoted Windows 8 user, not something anyone typically wishes to associate with the term "power user". ;) I do know my way around Linux, though; it's what I use on my server.

I'm a lot newer to web development than you might think; Pony.fm is a personal learning process for me almost from top to bottom. Glad you like how it's coming together, though. So far, most of the feedback on the site has been quite positive.

Well done. Not sure about the two colors you use, but otherwise very well done. I'm a huge fan of minimalist designs.
