  1. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in Why can I no longer donate with my debit card? was marked as the answer
    @@Justin ZW,

    Hi Justin,

It appears that our billing system prevents any further donations from non-admins once the donation goal is reached (something that isn't documented or hinted at anywhere - this is as much a surprise to me as it is to you ). Removing the $2000 goal from the fundraiser reinstated your ability to contribute toward it.

Unfortunately, this means that the amount raised is no longer visible to the public. I'll be in touch with IPS about it to see if they're willing to correct this. Sorry!
  2. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in Uploader Refuses to Upload Songs From Today? was marked as the answer
If you leave the release date field blank, the date you publish the song will automatically be used as the release date. Setting it manually will achieve the same effect, so no harm done, but it looks like this isn't entirely clear, so I'll change the "before today" rule to "before tomorrow".  You're right that "today" is a perfectly valid release date, too.

    Edit: and changed.
  3. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in "Stats" tab not appearing was marked as the answer
This appears to be an issue related to the way the statistics tab controls its permissions; it's outside of the usual place for such things, and it seems we overlooked resetting it when we added the "BronyCon Supporters" group. As a result, the tab didn't show up for anyone who is in that group.

    This should be fixed now.
  4. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in I'm trying to upload my first song but... was marked as the answer
This is a server-side error. It means that something isn't working quite right on Pony.fm's end when you try to publish the track. I'm taking a look at this right now...

    Thanks for reporting it!

I believe I have this fixed now. @DevtheRobot, please try publishing your track again and let me know if it doesn't work.
  5. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in I have a question... was marked as the answer
Go for it! Music about the fandom counts as pony fan music.
  6. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in I would like to donate. was marked as the answer
I'm looking at setting up Poniverse with its own mailbox for a few things, but a side benefit of that is that I'll have a freely publishable mailing address. A cheque or even cash (though I wouldn't recommend mailing cash unless you're completely out of other options) could be sent there once I have this mailbox.

    Would that work for you?
  7. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in Donor rank duration with the fundraiser celebration was marked as the answer
The 9 days of subscriber perks are meant for members who do not already have a subscription. Active subscribers and donors remain unaffected.
  8. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in Login Trouble was marked as the answer
Head over here and set a password on your account. You should then be able to get into Pony.fm with it. Unfortunately, you cannot use Facebook to log in to Pony.fm (it doesn't play well with multiple domains).
  9. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in uploading error was marked as the answer
It looks like your original file was in 64 KHz, which isn't a particularly common sampling rate. While it could easily be whitelisted, I'm not so sure every player out there will handle a non-standard rate very gracefully. Does your DAW let you set the sample rate of your rendering? If it does, try the highest of the following that it supports:
44.1 KHz 48 KHz 88.2 KHz 96 KHz 176.4 KHz 192 KHz. These are the standard sampling rates that digital audio tends to come in, and are the ones that Pony.fm allows. Try to avoid resampling a file that has already been rendered (I assume that's what you meant by bouncing it?).
  10. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in consistency, please~<3 was marked as the answer
Looks like we have two bugs here in the registration. Just pushed up a patch, which should fix them up. The album and license selectors should now retain your previous selection if the form submission fails. If they still don't, let me know.
  11. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in Constant 404 Error was marked as the answer
Confirmed, and fixed! Thanks for pointing this out.
  12. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in Paid Commisions Problem :( was marked as the answer
    Lunar Red,

I've received your request for a commission thread, but I haven't had time to review most of my personal conversations this week. I'll run through them in a batch today, and hopefully we can get you approved!
  13. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in A suggestion to "Unsubscribe" to status updates. was marked as the answer
Key's a bit busy right now, so I'll fill in for him.

The problem here is a software limitation. Status updates are part of IP.Board, the forum software that powers MLP Forums. So, our ability to modify them is directly dependent on how easy IPS have made it for us to override and extend their code.

Now, I personally read through the code that powers status updates, and... I hate to break it to everyone, but modularity is virtually absent from it. It would be quite the undertaking to add the ability to "unsubscribe" from status updates in no small part because IPS's status updates don't have a concept of "subscriptions"/following in the first place. The notification option for it has a rather bare-metal implementation where, if it's ticked, you are sent a notification whenever a status you've replied to gets another reply. The concept of "following" a notification simply does not exist, and would need to be built first.

The way IPS have written the status update feature, they're virtually hardwired. The only realistic way to modify statuses in any meaningful way that won't result in forking IP.Board is to disable IPS's implementation, write our own, and migrate the data.

We hear you, loud and clear. All this technobabble doesn't change the indisputable fact that status update notifications can and do suck in their current state.

Reprogramming status updates our own way is, in fact, something I intend to take a close look at with the Poniverse network. Status updates can and should become a network-wide feature available on every site, and running them through Poniverse.net will make it possible to overhaul every aspect of them, including the oft-requested ability to "unfollow" a particular status.
  14. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in Collaborations was marked as the answer
This is likely how I'll end up implementing the feature on Pony.fm. Nice and simple - you invite other users as collaborators, and the track appears on their profile as well as yours.

Multiple uploads are definitely something I discourage.
  15. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in Search by Pony? was marked as the answer
Update: I plan to implement a character-based taxonomy. I've figured out how to do it cleanly and efficiently.
  16. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in Pony.fm Staff was marked as the answer
    Comment/Content Moderation

The site has a solid moderation framework, built with the idea of adding future staff in mind (in fact, Pony.fm's moderation framework is actually better than IP.Board's). I do not have any immediate plans to launch with moderating staff right out of the gate, but the site's ready for it as soon as it becomes necessary. Then, and only then, will I look into getting some moderators on board.

    Private Messages

Pony.fm does not have a PM feature, and is unlikely to ever get one as you expect it. As all Pony.fm accounts also double as MLP Forums accounts, it's a piece of cake to jump over to someone's MLP Forums profile and PM them here. As a matter of fact, the "Send a message" button on Pony.fm profiles does just that.

Eventually, the plan is to remove private messages from MLP Forums and migrate them into a Poniverse-wide messaging system. Because that's on the agenda, it's extremely unlikely that Pony.fm will get a messaging system of its own.

    Technical Questions

Honestly, I'd rather stick to answering these myself, at least in the site's early stages. Pony.fm is my little baby, and I really love talking about it. Not only do I enjoy that, but it also leaves a really good impression on people when the site owner is open and easily accessible for queries about his own site.

Questions about the site are of especially great interest to me, as a question coming up repeatedly may be a signal that the site does a poor job of explaining itself. Such questions are often useful developer feedback in their own right, even if they weren't meant that way.
  17. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in The "Follow" System was marked as the answer
If you are following a user, you receive a notification (on Pony.fm) every time they publish a new track or album.
  18. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in Track/Album discovery was marked as the answer
    This tweak has been made.

To add to that, I have some ideas for totally revamping the navbar which should make it more awesome than ever. Stay tuned.
  19. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in Should artists be able to make money through pony.fm? was marked as the answer
Sorry for not replying to this thread sooner.

I would more than love Pony.fm to be a site that artists can legally make money from pony fan music on. Operative keyword: legally.

CloudFyre and I have discussed the issue at length before, and it looks like I can make it happen, at the very least, for fully original fan songs (ie. nothing that uses sound clips from the show or is remixed from an official song). If at all possible, I would like to do it using a legitimate license from Hasbro to do business with their IP.

At the minimum, it would be nice to offer artists a means of accepting personal donations via Pony.fm. Any kind of monetary transaction between artists and fans on Pony.fm will, in all likelihood, happen with me taking a cut from it for Pony.fm.

However, until I'm able to sit down and do my due diligence in legal research, Pony.fm will remain noncommercial, and there will probably be a hard ban on linking to external sites like Bandcamp or PayPal where users can pay the artist. Allowing any of that would be allowing artists to indirectly make money from Pony.fm by using my traffic to make money for themselves and a third-party that has nothing to do with Pony.fm.

Separately, I plan to have some kind of donations button to make donations for Pony.fm's upkeep; however, these will not come with any kind of rewards or perks attached so as not to imply that the donor is "buying" anything.

tl;dr: I want to do this, but I won't do it until I'm absolutely sure I can do it right. I hope that's fair.
  20. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in Minimum track length was marked as the answer
Just a note: a 30-second minimum has been implemented.
  21. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in A couple suggestions was marked as the answer
    1) Search is a planned feature.

    [sharedmedia=trac:issues:106]

    2) Profile fields are a planned feature. The initial implementation will probably pull them from your MLP Forums account, but these will eventually be controlled from the global Poniverse Dashboard.

    [sharedmedia=trac:issues:47]

    3) A "favourites" playlist is a planned feature.

    [sharedmedia=trac:issues:118]

I've been thinking about how to implement a track rating system, too. That would most likely be separate from the favouriting feature, which would be tied into playlists. Please start a new topic if you have any specific ideas for how to go about doing this. Right now, I'm leaning toward a like/dislike system like YouTube's.
  22. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in sort by criteria was marked as the answer
    This is a planned feature.

  23. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in Mouse-over for track description was marked as the answer
This is an excellent idea. I'll make it happen. Thanks for the visual mockup, too; those are quite helpful for describing feature requests.

  24. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in Suggestions for individual track pages was marked as the answer
    1) That's a good point. The way the album title is position right now certainly does create a great deal of whitespace. I'll move that over as in your screenshots.

    2) Good idea. I'll make this change.

    3) This was actually planned. I'm working on it.

    4) What's wrong with a huge comment box?

Update: Requests 1 and 2 have been implemented. While I was at it, I took the opportunity to AJAX'ify the follow buttons, so they don't refresh your page when you click them.

Gotta get some dinner now, then I'll continue with the coding!
  25. Twilight Sparkle ✨'s post in Music Videos? was marked as the answer
Hosting and distributing video is a pretty tall technical order. While I'd certainly like to do something with brony videos someday, at this time, I just can't see video hosting being a part of Pony.fm at this time, or in the foreseeable future. Video hosting has a way of really pushing server resources to insane levels, and that isn't something I want to take on unless my income increases by at least one or two orders of magnitude.

For the time being, focusing on the music itself is, I believe, what Pony.fm has to be all about.
