  1. So, Mad Men's over. What's next?

  2. But what song is set for '99? Taking all guesses.

Double feature as we approach our Closing Time on this fine Sunday morning. I'm going to miss making these. Who knows, if enough people want one, I might do another one featuring recordings from the 19th century, rare as they may be. In the meantime, check back in 1999 and I'll hit you Baby, One More Time. Word of warning, though: It's not a pop song. Britney Spears and Semisonic.
  4. An informed consumer makes his decisions based on a variety of sources. Joe and his thorough summaries are one of them. 1. Walker actually admits that his LP video was shit. His regular content has nothing to do with that. 2. Retsu conducted themselves horribly in that video. At several points, they even wish death upon Doug. 3. I don't even see how this contributes to the discussion on Angry Joe. He may work for the same parent company as Doug, but he is a separate person. This isn't even ad hominem, it's ad hominem by association. A double-fallacy.
  5. Games cost money. Of course people aren't going to check a game out if they think it's going to be shit. Would you rather we just assume that all games are good? My favorite jokes can get pretty far on the side of bad taste, but I get what you're saying. You can't just repeat a bad joke and expect it to be funny.
  6. DSP's jokes were lame, but there are others that crack me up. South Park, for example, nails it.
  7. Eh... I think the exaggerated German accent should clue people in that it's just a bad joke. People who legitimately dislike Jews don't steal lines from Inglorious Basterds.
  8. They've made even worse videos than that. Really? All I heard is that he's bad at video games, and acts like a 15 year old when he loses. How does this make him a racist? If you can't handle people bashing things you like, then maybe you shouldn't be on the internet to begin with. Here, have some Onision-bashing.
  9. Thought it was an irony thing, like The Room's fandom. Then learned a bit more and thought y'all just fucked horses, like the Sonic fandom does with hedgehogs. Then I learned a bit more, and thought "whatevs."

As it happens, this entry was written on the day of Leonard Nimoy's death. I can only wonder how many more will have passed by the time it releases. A fitting theme for a year this late. Elton John, with Candle in the Wind (1997).
  11. I think I've found worst pony.

The theme of today is change and precedence. Go back to previous years and ask yourself if you could ever recognize the music as being from the same century, but still we see slow and steady progression. In 1976, I played Stevie Wonder's Pastime Paradise. In 1995, Coolio sampled Wonder's beat and rhythm to create Gangsta's Paradise. And in 1996, we come full circle with Weird Al's controversial parody, Amish Paradise. We will always build on what we know. Nothing comes into being without precedent. Especially not music.
  13. Back by popular demand until June 4th.

      Taviscratch

Huh, sweet! That's worth it even considering what EA did to a promising franchise.

  14. There's a kid walking down my street shouting "Bender."

Only the second rap song, and first time posting a music video. And already 5 years from the end. Oh well... Gangsta's Paradise, by Coolio and L.V.

I think what I'll remember the most about this series is simply the fact that I completed it. At first, I only started this blog to see how far I'd make it before I tired out or lost interest. I figured I'd barely make it to the 1910s. Now, the year is 1994, and in a few short years, we will have closure. For accompanying me throughout this journey through time, you have my thanks. It's been a long road. Streets of Philadelphia. Here's Bruce Springsteen.

Holy shit. I was born this year! In real life! Holy shit! Is it too late to go back yet? Thought so. Inner Circle, with Bad Boys.

The 20th century reads like the plot of the greatest movie in the world. We have the introduction and early conflict in the 1900s and early 1910s, the drastic shift in the way the entire world operates from 1914 to 1950, the tense, seemingly endless despair that kept the entire world afraid for their lives between 1950 and 1989, and now, with the wall torn down, the war over, and the world (mostly) at peace for the first time in a century, all that leaves us with is the epilogue. Enjoy these last few years, as we say goodbye to the greatest century the world has ever known. This is The Cure. Friday I'm in Love.
  20. Worry not. I can't stand Taylor Swift either.
  21. While it's pretty douchy to yell slurs at teenage girls, there's still a very good, very simple reason why the Mane 6 are assumed to be the equivalent of "white." The VAs who play these characters are all white, and they all sound very white. It's the same reason why Zecora is assumed to be black. It's not really that big of a deal.

"...Today announced the complete dissolution of the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact. On December 31st, 1991, all Soviet Institutions are to cease operation, and the nation will be replaced, both in name and in function, by the new Russian Federation. A new era is beginning. Not just for Russia, but for all of humanity." The Wind of Change. This is The Scorpions.
