K, report on CNN about Jenna Talackova just made it all the more clear that coming out about my transgender woes to my parents is a situation all too far away. Didn't know my parents were that... intolerant, I guess?

If I may present my opinion on this, maybe they just find it funny and that's it. As much as it may sting, they are probably clueless on that you really are pre-operative and that they can't take this seriously until you tell them straight up.
I don't know, though. Maybe now's a good time to start trusting your parents more with this stuff and you may have to tell them sooner than you think.

TBH before I was a member of this site I used to scoff and giggle at transgender people on tv specials as well. But then after I met a small handful of members here who are going through it (and coming to terms with my bisexuality) I know understand more about it. Like Dev said perhaps they just don't understand it.
