My grad school experience in physics was a nightmare. In fact, for years after I would have literal nightmares about it. Too long of a story, but you are right. Especially about knowing what the day to day job is like.

Science is presented to the public with cool pictures of galaxies or super colliders. The reality is, it is an awful career.

Yeah you have to really be intrigued by all the mechanics of equations involved. Eventually math gets exponentially harder if you don’t follow through from square 1.

I won't be doing college because of going into debt. My family can't afford that, and I have not had any work experience or been anywhere on my own before to be entirely honest - I have absolutely nothing, and I need to work on getting a work ethic and understanding how to act independent before I can even think about long term goals. I don't know what I want to do with my life and I should have thought about it sooner, but I need to start small rather than get all worked up over college.

Not to mention due to the circumstances in my country aside, going to college is entirely undesirable for me. I'll have to think about another path.

There are many people like you out there.

Id say find a job where you LIKE to work at at the very least and move up the ladder. Somewhere with good pay too… there’s plenty of those jobs around. Just need to know where to look.

Dont invest in something you have no vision.

Looking at this, it reminds me that I need to build more connections at some point. So far there's only one or two people I have regular connections with. I'm hoping to get to know more people who know about my field in the fall.

I have heard about the whole internship thing and it's highly recommended for people getting into game design, although it would be dealing with the IT help desk. Not all that exciting, but it gets you familiar with computers and I can at least say I have customer service experience.

I also wanted to mention that I like that you mentioned being specific about career goals. If I said I just wanted to do "game design", it would cause a lot of confusion, as it is too broad. I hope to be versatile, but mainly doing the art design is my best option since I tend to pick up art techniques pretty quickly.

I’d say connections really just help on reducing the number of applications you need to complete. It’s a numbers game. You could have no connections and apply to many many jobs and, with a good resume, they’ll want to hear from you.

So that’s a fake plane, correct?

So you can explode it D: ?

It's only real in my home, desktop computer :P . Although it's based on a real-life aircraft. As far as performance specification accuracy goes, it's usually in the ballpark. One of the aircraft in the sim is a bit slower than the one in real life, but is pretty close enough.

  5. Former band member here as well. Did it from 6th grade through 12th and beyond until I graduated from college (there's a yearly alumni band event where we can march but it's nothing like actual college band and far less from high school band).

    Thoughts and own experiences:

-Hahahah, we totally also were quiet in the beginning of the ride. Never really knew why but I suppose your explanation makes sense. Actually, I remember my last year we had one guy in the back of the bus (I was actually in the back with him) scream really loud as we completed that u-turn underneath the overpass. One of the drivers got scared once :P .

As far as traditions go.... my section (trombone) had a thing where the longest bus ride of the year we would consume a lot of sugar to get a sugar rush (it was aight). I never really participated, although my last year I drank a whole 2-liter Sprite from a WalMart stop, and was dreading the ride with a friend until we got to the destination. Was probably the longest piss I ever had.

We would always tip the bus driver on band trips.

-I thought the bus rides were pretty fun, even more when we would get out of class early if it was a longer trip, or getting back really late. Spending time with friends was fun. It just wasn't the same in college band.

I unfortunately didn't have a "last band ride", as I was in region orchestra while the band traveled to a little town called Temple for playoffs (I think it was Temple). We lost. I didn't get a formal farewell or "last time in uniform" sort of event. It was one of those rites of passage I witnessed every year, was pretty disappointed I couldn't be there when it was my time (although the last concert of the year is a bit more special, I think, which I did participate in).

We were moderately successful as far as competitions go. Shame I left when things really got interesting and exciting .

  7. It's a big ol' airline indeed. Unfortunately, it partially got so big because of all the said mergers and acquisitions, which usually meant lots of flight cuts from un-profitable hubs, or being too close to a larger one. Plus it's one less livery flying out there.

I've got a mixed opinion on AA; plenty of people complain about it (or him/her, since corporations are people) and whatnot (although who doesn't complain about any airline?). I've flown just one trip with AA, going through its DFW and ORD hubs, and I have to say they were ok (tip for flying: shut up and relax, try to interact as little as possible with employees). As an aviation enthusiast/plane spotter, they're probably my favorite, or at least were my favorite until they revealed that hideous new livery that the whole world will get to see. It was a big shame that they threw away a really iconic logo, only to be replaced with a weird beak-logo that could belong to any airline or organization (Avianca's new logo is very similar to the new American logo, and actually did better with the logo since it looks like an eagle). I actually used to want to fly for American when I would have grown up just to fly on their polished-metal aircraft with the red white and blue stripes (MD80s being my favorite). Not to say they didn't need a new livery, but there were a lot of good concept liveries drawn out there, and I'm surprised they stuck with this one instead.

Used to want to as of several years ago xP . If I'm doing something cool, I have to look good in it.
