Wha…? Fluttershy's character was flanderized and retconned for Scare Master? 'Shy's characterization in that episode is one complaint I'll NEVER understand.

I feel it's a case of how folks believe that it was another case of Fluttershy undergoing the same song and dance from the past seasons since Season 2. While I felt the climax did sort of eased the impact of her development, it did however helped develop her character and actually took her into an interesting direction with her fears for Nightmare Night. It's certainly her best episode since Hurricane Fluttershy.

More or less that ^. It's not that I think she should never be scared of anything ever again, it's more that "Fluttershy is frightened of (thing) but can overcome her fear when the chips are down" isn't enough to make an episode gripping for me. Flutters was terrific in Season 5, in Cutie Map, TftM and that Gala episode, but I can't say I was a huge fan of her focus episodes.
