So far, this episode is a lot like a reversal of Owl’s Well, and done right. In the former, Spike was villainized for being jealous of Owlowiscious and his fear of being displaced and replaced. Here, this isn’t the case. Rarity’s jealousy of Gabby and her tactics are written to be in the wrong, but her perspective’s written to be empathetic, and the episode spends a great deal of time building up how much Rarity doesn’t want Spike to forget about her.

Also, a very clever callback to The Last Crusade. Recall Gallus and Gabby attending CMC Appreciation Day? Because Gallus lives in Ponyville now, Gabby flies more often there. Really smart, subtle interweaving of continuity.
