    One good thing about writing fanfic is you ain't beholden to canon completely or at all. Even those who don't rely on continuity still depend on canon material of old. You can make your own material and either add to the worldbuilding or build new ideas from scratch.

      I'm always trying to figure out which canon elements I should place in my Pokemon fanfic, and which ones I want to work around with. It's a lot to think, but I like how you can still write whatever you like. There isn't such a bad thing as a bad headcanon, it mostly comes down to how well written a fanfic is
