Last year, Maya Moore — the greatest WNBA player of all time — stepped away from the game during her prime to put full focus on freeing Jonathan Irons, a man wrongfully convicted of a 1998 robbery (and tried as an adult despite being a minor at the time of the crime) and sentenced to 50 years in prison. Her activism helped Irons hire one of the country's best defense attorneys, Kent Gibson. This past March, his conviction was overturned.
Today, after more than twenty years in prison, and after lead county prosecutor Tim Lohmar declined to re-try him, Irons leaves prison a free man.
