  1. The Room >>>>>>>>>>> Jersey Shore. Both factually suck, but at least The Room has entertainment value and humor from its awfulness.

This much is known to be true, though I'd make the argument that Kardashians is worst. At least Jersey Shore had the decency to end when they realized no one gave a crap anymore.

  3. In continuing the trend of Fizzle's "Pick a Flaw" threads, we now move on to another Season 1 episode, The Ticket Master. This is the first with two authors: Faust (her last episode as writer) and Rogers (her first of many). This episode was rather important because it set up one the overarching goal of Season 1: attending the Grand Galloping Gala. But like the pilot, TTM's reception's rather mixed today, so it's time to ask: If you have to pick out one flaw or weakness that impacts — or could impact — your viewing or the episode's overall quality, which one will it be? Please choose one of the options and explain yourself below. For the other "Pick a Flaw" threads: Season 1: Friendship Is Magic, Parts 1 & 2 Season 4: (@@Doctor XFizzle's threads will be italicized.) 5. After Sonneborn's Trade Ya!, Corey Powell and Meghan McCarthy co-wrote Inspiration Manifestation, an episode with a pretty decent, if not good, reception. Based on the comments presented and my own viewpoints, I've come up with a list of possible flaws or weaknesses impacting the episode. So if you have to choose one weakness or flaw that impacts your viewing and/or its overall quality, which is it? Please choose and explain in detail below. If your option isn't available, hit "other" and explain. And like what I wrote in the last thread: For the other "Pick a Flaw" threads: Season 1: Friendship Is Magic, Parts 1 & 2 The Ticket Master Season 4: (@@Doctor XFizzle's threads will be italicized.) 7. As bad as It Ain't Bein' Breezies is, the devil gets its due on one component: Levinger actually tried to make the blatant toy bait blend into the canon, but tried TOO hard. At least, better to try hard and fail than not try at all.

So far the only key episode [and season 4 episode in general] I've absolutely loved was Pinkie Pride. Everything about that was great.

Yea, I honestly don't blame Levinger too much for that episode, I just chock it up to corporate meddling.

On a side note, Powell is back in my good graces after this week's episode, so there's that. I think Rainbow Falls got to me, it's such a horrendous outing, in my opinion.

  8. The NBA needs to ban Clippers owner Donald Sterling. His racism is now caught on tape, and Commissioner Silver shouldn't tolerate it. With those comments, Sterling all but killed a potential dynasty.

The players are already considering a boycott. It looks like it's over for this team, and they had such potential, too.

      Sooooooo, how about them Nets?

      Dark Qiviut

@WCP: The discussion of a boycott was quickly dismissed. They're still gonna play.

I'm unsure about the Staples Center for Game 5, though.

  9. I wrote this last year and beat the dead horse in my status, topics, and EQD's comment boards. But because far too many people continue to make this mistake, it's time to reiterate. As far as the animation and IDW comics are concerned, My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic's market audience/target market is all ages. They're all-ages, gender-neutral, and family-friendly pieces of entertainment. Its base demographic is five-year-old kids regardless of gender, but its overall market includes older kids, teens, and adults. It's the same market audience as pre-Tales G1, Pixar, many of Disney's classics, The Railway Series, classic and the last two seasons of Thomas & Friends, Mario's main series, Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, and pre-1993 WWE. But unlike G1, FIM's market audience for its first-party toys is different. Instead of all-ages and gender-neutral, it's marketed to young girls. It's one of the few products of the first-party market to cater that demographic singularly. Also, unlike FIM, Equestria Girls's market audience is tween girls. EQG's base demographic is older than FIM's, but its overall target market is much narrower than the main series. But there's a difference between market audience and target audience. Market audience is defined as to attract certain demographics, but it doesn't mean they're going to buy something. The target audience is who you're going to sell to. What do I mean by that? Contrary to what everyone thinks, kids — and little/tween girls — are NOT FIM's target audience. In fact, kids are NEVER a target audience. Why? Because kids aren't the ones who'll buy the products or record the shows most of the time. Those who hold onto the income (and therefore buy/record them) are their guardians, the true target audience of FIM and EQG. Since FIM debuted in 2010, the claim that FIM's target audience is "little girls" has been false. Don't kid yourself into thinking otherwise.
  10. At this point, Trade Ya! is teetering between my fifth-least-favorite S4 episode and most hated episode in the entire show (more than Rainbow Falls, with only Equestria Girls I hate more).

    1. Wind Chaser

I hated it too, I find it surprising that more people hadn't come out hating this episode.

  14. Since I posted this topic, I might as well. The quality flaw to stick out the most in the two-parter, particularly the second, is the lack of subtlety. Quite simply, the foreshadowing is poor. Right in the beginning, you pretty much knew who were the bearers. Only who held which? That was answered thanks to a zoom out of the animation; as Twilight recited the five known Elements, you saw the characters who were going to hold them, and the timing was no accident. Even the trials didn't hide it so much. By being this predictable, you risk sucking the investment out of the audience. Sure, you got the foundation down for your viewer, but the pilot gives the show a first impression. There's a reason why the pilot isn't often recommended: it's very weak, and one big reason is the the execution of the foreshadowing. At least there was definitely plenty of heart, which the audience spotted…but it could've been SO much better.

  18. Opening Note: Be advised that discussing the main flaw(s) does NOT mean he or she hates the episode. These topics merely direct its discussion in a different light, and there's a high chance of an episode's weaknesses, flaws, or objective quality being critiqued critically and/or severely. Friendship Is Magic is a widely popular cartoon series with millions of bronies young and old. Part of what made this show popular and good is the high-quality storytelling and execution in the form of innocently minded characterization, worldbuilding, and humor. However, this show isn't perfect. Each episode is flawed, but some are worse than others. Not every episode is good, and sometimes the flaws determine the outcome of its quality. The two-part pilot is one such example. While it introduces the series to the audience, there are many critiques in its presentation and execution. Faust has a brilliant mind, but the two-parter she wrote is often not recommended, not even by Faust herself (admitting her favorite episode was Fullerton's Suited for Success at BronyCon). Over the past several weeks, @@Doctor XFizzle posted several "Pick a Flaw" threads asking people to discuss the ONE flaw or weakness that sticks out to you most. There's a list followed by an "other" option if none of the above are applicable. I followed that with a "PaF" thread for Trade Ya! But instead of confining the threads to just the latest Season 4 episodes, it's time to use Fizzle's concept and go down to memory lane and critique — if not slam — past episodes. And what better than to begin with the two-part pilot. The same standard applies: What was the one weakness or flaw that you saw that bothered you most? Click the option of your choice (if it's not any of the five, choose "Other"), and explain thoroughly below. Edit: Based off @'s post, I decided to add a new option to the poll: mechanical dialogue.
  19. Okay, that's it. Since XFizzle began his "Pick a Flaw" series with FIM (and me continuing it w/o his permission), I think it's time to do a flashback, starting with the two-part pilot.

    1. Thunderchild

      Thunderchild

I've gone back to the pilot a couple of times-it was a really good episode.

  20. Plenty. At least five examples: The intro reversing the scenario from Sonic Rainboom. Rarity's dress reflecting brilliantly off the sunlight. Fluttershy waving her plot at the angry bees. Spike sobbing, "Sorry!" and then retreating upon seeing the angry breezies. The Dr. Who reference with Rose Luck and Dr. Whooves (wearing 3D glasses).
  21. Until DHX has the decency to write a competent, intelligent unrequited crush and not use the foil as a one-dimensional stereotype, fuhgettaboutit! Trenderhoof is the opposite of Flash Sentry Brad, but he's still a walking piece of cardboard with the intention of making his opposite number (Rarity) look like an idiot. Plus, his persoanlity's absolutely unlikeable.
  22. Who the hell would want to watch Nickelodeon's Breadwinners? It's so awful, it's not even funny.

What else is new? Nearly every show on Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network these days is a complete and total insult to what those networks used to be. It really saddens me as I grew up in the 90's when Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network had some of the best shows on tv.
