Never saw this show, but how can you not be interested? The theme song is hypnotizing, the suit design is very unique, and Leo is definitely a stand-out among the many vintage Ultras. In fact, this Ultra has become the inspiration for other Ultras; but we'll cover that some other time.

Happy Holidays, my crowd!  For once, this is late on purpose. And we all know why... The holiday! Bet lets review the week past.

 Everything was slow until the main event.. Christmas! I got to spend it with my family, like always.  Sunday was the big gift-giving day. Monday, Christmas Day, was when my mother and I opened our gifts to each other; followed by brunch made by one of my uncles. We didn't go to my other uncle's house to set up the firepit, unfortunately. It did get cold enough, but my cousin never came in, so maybe my other uncle just didn't feel like it or wasn't ready for that. Also, earlier in the week, my mother and I went to a local burger place that we usually go to. ... Yeah, we're discontinuing that tradition. The food is kind of lousy.

 And now to share my holiday haul:

• A prop lantern (looks like a box of Chinese take out) and a Farside book from one of my uncles.
• A very awesome sweater shirt, sweets, and a candle from my other uncle.
• Sonic Superstars (Nintendo Switch), a space shuttle model kit, a food chopper, a popsocket, and a real lamp from my mother.
• A USB microphone/headphone set from @Stone Cold Steve Jobs.
• A mystery gift from @ShadOBabe (hasn't come in yet).

I didn't get myself any gifts, but I do want to go shopping for clothes. Might even go see a movie in theaters. Who knows. Still, what I got is awesome. 

 It's been confirmed that the next Sentai will be called Bakuage Sentai BoonBoonger (Potentail translation: Kaboom Squadron BoomBoomger). I was REALLY hoping they'd drop the name for something else. Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network are in negotiations for a merger; did not see that coming. And the biggest news of all... Sharivan is getting an official release! It's a tokusatsu Christmas miracle!

 [ 1 / 2 ] MOVIE TIME!  I recently saw MGM's Christmas Carol The Movie (2001). The crime of this adaptation is that it's remarkably dull. It takes time to add new details, change the order of events for other details, and retcon some other details. However, for all it's changes, none of them come together in a meaningful way. They don't justify whatever parts of the story were cut out. What should have been a series of profound, touching, and soul-wrenching moments were left feeling hollow. This adaptation had all the elements to be something great. They tried to show us the poor houses, but held back from showing why they are bad. They showed us Fred, but Scrooge never reunited with him at the end. They gave Scrooge a moment to reunite with Belle, but it was so underwhelming that even the Flintstones did it better. All this and more established a pattern of behavior. The material they gave us had so much potential, they just didn't take it as far as possible, nor did they stick the landing.

 [ 2 / 2 ] ANOTHER MOVIE!  I also saw An All Dogs Christmas Carol. I saw this once, and only once. Seeing it again, I am not sure what to say. It's not following the Dickens story note-for-note since these are original characters from their own universe. Still, it takes a few layers to get to this. If you liked the sequel to the original Don Bluth movie "All Dogs Go To Heaven", and you enjoyed the All Dogs TV series, then you might just enjoy this tie-in movie. It's a little all over the place. It's one part Dickens-inspired story, one part apocalyptic story. Sadly, despite doing its best to redeem Carface, he still admits that it's only a one-time thing. Kind of sad to go through all that for almost nothing, but I get it. It's part of a TV series; they have to reset everything back to status quo so that it fits in with the continuity. If you must see this, and not because you're all ready a fan of the franchise, then see it for the jazzy musical numbers. The first song was very generic Christmas song, but the rest were way better.

 I could not finish David S. Womack's movie “Carol's Christmas.” There were many creative changes made here, but the audio editing is so terrible, that I simply could not sit through it. Maybe next year, I'll give it a 2nd chance. For now, there are other adaptations that deserve my time. 

 Also, NO TOKUSATSU THIS WEEK! Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays, my crowd. It'll return next week. 

 I found a store that sells G Fuel Peach Rings flavor. (Yes, the Sonic the Hedgehog flavor). It was good! Didn't get a ton of energy off it. It was closer to a candy drink, really. But the peach flavor was real, and I'd gladly go back for more.

And late again...  But I have my reasons this time, my crowd! Definitely without reason.

 First thing to report is that one of my uncle's had a birthday, and my family got together to celebrate it.  It was a little early, but we wouldn't get another chance to celebrate it. My mother made key lime pie. It's the new gold standard for that kind of pie. The flavor was INTENSE!

 As for why this post is late... During the weekend, I also did a LOT of shopping. I was helping my mother with hers, and I did some of my own. We both agreed that we can't be doing this anymore. We need to either be starting earlier or we need to start doing online shopping instead.  There's just so many stores around town, and things get so busy. Case in point, by the time things wound down Sunday night, I missed my chance to post my weekly summaries. ... And now I gotta find time to wrap presents!

 More trailers.  I didn't care at first, but I have friends that have shown me Kung-Fu Panda, now I'm kind of eager to see the 4th movie. Also, One Piece reanimating it's first season(s)? I have so many mixed feelings about this. Will it be better? Will it be worse? Will it basically be the BDZ Kai version of One Piece? We'll have to wait and see.

 Gotchard 14: Rough Rex.  I hate when episodes do stuff like this. I hate when they build up to the epic battle, only to leave it as a cliff hanger before actually seeing it. I hate it because doing that can either go good or, if you're not careful, bad. I hate that Spanner just knows where the Sisters were. How exactly did he find them? And why didn't he tell anyone before charging in and attacking? Oh well. Rex looks cool; gave me ReVice flashbacks. And is it just me, or did Ichinose/Gotchard's actor get a glow up or something? I swear, at the beginning, he looked like he could be in a pop bad or something.

  King-Ohger 40: Know Your Providence.  Of all the things I expected, Gira/the Red Ohger being related to the Galactinsects was not it. As I watched this unfold, I couldn't help but think that this had to be wrong. Some kind of bluff or big lie. But even as the story revealed that this is true and that the clues were always there, I wanted to believe that Gira still had a will of his own and chose his own path. Then they took that from him and forced him to act like a villain. And the way the show brings it back around, by having the previously scared Shugods take a stand against their oppressors for the first time, was absolutely perfect. This is how you do a cliffhanger.

 [ 1 / 2 ] MOVIE TIME!  I recently saw Jacqui & David Morris's A Christmas Carol (2020). Holy Frankenstein's monster in the snow, Batman! This movie was a combination of many things. It's one part ballet, one part theater production, one part trippy visuals, and one part meta. It starts with kids wanting a Christmas fairy tale, thus leading a grandmother to recount the Dickens tale. From there, everything goes wild. This is easily what happens when a theater play becomes a movie but they never wanted to forget their theater origins. You will remember it just for the striking visuals alone. This movie is basically to Dickens what Fantasia is to classical music, except it's all done with live action performers. And to think the only reason I clicked on this was because they used the wrong thumbnail. I was looking for an animated version of A Christmas Carol with talking animals. Oh but don't worry, I'm reviewing that one next. This one is still amazing and worth your time if the imaginative concept intrigues you.

  [ 2 / 2 ] I also saw A Christmas Carol: Scrooge's Ghostly Tale (2006). Woooooow, this movie is terrible. Please spare yourself. My curiosity was not rewarded in kind. There have been times where I wondered how you could do A Christmas Carol without religious themes, or how you could do it without death being a major element of the theme, etc. This adaptation does ALL of that, and the result is that the production becomes hollow and soulless. There is inconsistencies. (I suppose the death of old adults is fine, but the implied death of a child is just too much for a children's movie.) There are dialogue-heavy moments that beat you over the head with characters explaining the obvious, or even breaking the fourth wall for no reason. It's a musical with only two, VERY generic songs. One of which was so bad, they committed the cardinal sin and cut away from it to focus on two side characters. And the CGI animation is just bad; would actually be good in 1999 if they could actually frame the shots a little better. The only good things about this movie are some of animal choices, seeing Marley spared his fate by helping Scrooge, and the epilogue of Scrooge's life. Even so, skip this movie. I have no idea who it's for or why the poster was used to advertise a better adaptation. There's just something so wrong about a version that doesn't end with “God bless us, everyone.”

Are you feeling cute, my crowd?  Let's talk about it.

 Besides preparing for Christmas, getting a tree up, and my joint aches feeling a little better... There's really nothing super big to report on right now.  But at least I have time to get started on movie watching, and that's just what I did!

 Speaking of movies...  There's going to be a CGI Gundam cartoon/anime. And not just any CGI, but that high-budget CGI that might trick you into thinking it's live action! And since we're on the topic of trailers, Sega released a trailer showing that they are making new titles for their old IP's! Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Shinobi, and more~! This really gives me hope that maybe one day we may see more Billy Hatcher after all. (And I still find it hard to believe that famous vtubers Ironmouse won Content Creator of the Year in the 2023 Game Awards.)

 MOVIE TIME!  I recently saw Saban/Fuji Eight's A Christmas Carol (1991). I can't remember exactly how I got down this rabbit hole, but after learning that there is an anime of the Dickens tale, I had to search around to find it. Spoiler alert, this is not the one people were talking about. And it's hard to call it an anime. It was animated in Japan, but considering the vast majority of people working on it were in America, it's just as likely that the animation was outsourced. It's not even top dollar anime, more like something on par with Crayon Shin-Chan. Still, it is hilarious! Doesn't even matter that they boiled the story down to some very bare-bones parts. This version isn't trying to be a faithful retelling, it's just trying to get a laugh out of you, and it succeeds. Between the celebrity impressions, the funny character designs, and the silly name changes; I haven't laughed this much since watching a classic Muppets production. And oddly enough, it somehow manages to create a believable version of Scrooge that use to have a kind heart once. A feat that many other productions tried to do yet fail at.

 King-Ohger 39: A Butt-Kicking Master Class!  They finally did it! They did the insect limbs thing you see in the intro~! It wasn't just cool visuals after all. And while a different Jester was defeated than the one we wanted, it all worked out in the end. The Blue Ohger got his kingdom back, and the Galactinsects are down one Jester. At least, for now. Racles wants to take his place, it seems. On the one hand, I am glad the ninja is gone. He was the weakest link of the Jesters, though he fought pretty hard in this episode. On the other hand, this is going to be Racles's final chance to show us his true colors. I have no reason to believe he will redeem himself so far, but he could surprise us. If anything, I am afraid that now Racles might also have access to this new ultimate technique.

 Gotchard 13: Abduction Junction!  The first half of this episode really had “Everyone's terrible!” vibes. Who in the world wants to work for an organization that doesn't put its pupils' safety first? And shame on that teacher for not putting Spanner in his place sooner. The later half... It's really hard to take that CGI ballet fight seriously. I normally don't complain about the CGI that much, but this REALLY felt like watching a kid make their action figure fly around. Still, what matters is the plot. Gotchard saved his classmate/friend. I get the feeling we will see Dread again. I wonder if having UFO-X means he will now be able to travel to that secret location whenever he wants. And that suit design... Not only does that new super form look back, there's no way it can be good on the neck.

This is the first Ultra series I actually saw but never finished. Apparently, Max has an environmental message. Also, this is another song made by Project DMM. Perhaps not their best work since this one has rather repetitive lyrics, but maybe that's the point? It is an ear worm that sticks with you. I might get back into this show someday. I heard it has an English dub! The acting might not be the absolute best, but it's bearable. That's just how things go with live action dubbing.

Could it be? I actually posted on time?!  Let's talk, my crowd.

 This week, not much happened. My mother got sick, and I am struggling to think of some good gift ideas.  I have found the generic gifts should not be something to avoid. Depending on who you are giving a gift to, generic gifts might actually be completely welcomed! However, even with open-minded people, there seems to be a sweet spot between personal and too generic. It's stuff that's generic yet charming. If there is no personality to what you gave, it'll come off as if you didn't put any effort into it at all. Like getting a solid color t-shirt with no graphic or anything special about it at all. Even I'd appreciate that, but you have to admit, there's really no thought necessary behind a gift like that.

 Saw a trailer, at least.  Godzilla x Kong shows us a team-up we never expected. Also, Goji got a kid once, now it's Kong's turn. There are SO many other things I would love to talk about. Announcements and spoilers that I am just dying to share. However, I always save my thoughts until we have a trailer at least. But hopefully, more trailers are on their way!

 Gotchard 12: Unravel Everything!  I didn't think Gotchard had it in them, but here we are. It feels like this is the real reason Gotchard was taking its time, for this moment right here. The spy helping the sisters gets rewarded with a rather quick death. Sabi is forced to turn into an evil Kamen Rider and fight against his own will. However, the biggest, jaw-dropping thing about this episode is the savage beating that Gotchard gets. It's been a long time since we've seen something that merciless. Even the aftermath shakes our heroes to the core. Speaking of aftermath, Spanner need to shut his no-good trap. He has no right to lecture everyone else. He didn't exactly score a victory either. If anything, Gotchard fought way harder than he did. And I thought Spanner was suppose to be an alchemy prodigy. But I must say, props for how the fight ended. They could have easily just given Gotchard a new form there, but no, they are going to make us earn it. Either way, the happy-go-lucky show that we THOUGHT we were watching has just unraveled before out eyes.

 Gotchard VS Legend 02: Treasure To Stay Buried.  The only good thing I can say is that I don't hate this gold Rider, and I was expecting to. I was expecting him to be secretly evil, but that doesn't seem to have happened. ... For now. In fact, that's all I can say about this 2-part special. It ends here, for now. Ultimately, it was an unnecessary waste of time. I do wonder if we'll see Legend again. I wonder if it was necessary this soon into the Reiwa era to reinvent Decade/Zi-O. I wonder if there is a deeper story yet to unfold from all this. I wonder if Gotchard even remembers his time with Legend. For now, if anyone is interested, I can easily say that this special is easily skipped. And the only reason why Gotchard isn't "gorgeous" yet is because his story hasn't fully been told yet; which is the only advantage his predecessors have.

 King-Ohger 38: No Justice In Shame?  I just feel bad for the Purple Ohger in this episode. She's trying to do a simple undercover operation, and all her idiot friends keep injecting their own narrative based on (most likely) falsified clues. Even her most trusted second didn't fully figure it out, which is a shame, because I was really hoping that she would understand at least. Still, we got to see her without the mask and we got to see her full range of acting on display here, and it was all glorious. However, since there was no splash screen at the end, I can't tell if she has fully reclaimed her kingdom or not. It feels like it has, but a new mystery has appeared.

Ah, and now I am festive. My avatar, name, and banner have all been changed for the December holidays. 
The banner especially had to be given extra modifications, but I think it is better than last year's version.

One thing that is different is the name I've chosen. On previous Decembers, I was always "Toshigami Equine".
This year however, I am going by the display name "Samurai Toshigami". Why? Because I want my name to be easy to find, regardless of what season I'm celebrating.
Normally, it's Samurai Equine. So now I have Samurai Oni for October, Samurai Firefighter for November, and Samurai Toshigami for December. As long as it starts with Samurai, I should be easy to find and easy to tag.  I need to be easy to find since I'm a mod now.

Now that I've explained that, let's all have a wonderful holiday season!

TOKUSATSU MUSIC HIGHLIGHT:
"Ultraman Mebius" by Project DMM & the Ultra Defense Force.

The champion that will someday wear our flame. 
I am not a dedicated Ultraman fan. And while I have seen others first, Mebius was the first Ultra series I ever saw from start to finish. While others may be a bit more remarkable, there is nothing wrong with Mebius. It is standard, yet charming. It gives us peaks of the generations that came before, but doesn't make the audience feel like they have to do their homework to enjoy it. All in all, I'd say it's a great starting point for new fans who are interested (and don't mind the old 4:3 ratio).

Also, Project DMM was slated to be the official band of Ultra, much like Rider Chips was the official band for Kamen Rider for a long time. I mean, just listen to this song! Does it not fit Ultra so well?  It's just too bad they didn't go much further.

 Obviously, the big news to report is that I celebrated Thanksgiving!  I got time off, made food, and celebrated with my family. It's a little sad knowing our circle of family has considerably shrunk. However, the upside is that the ones remaining are free to make the best, tastiest dishes you've ever eaten! Such a simple holiday, but worth every morsal.

 The trailers are wearing thin. Guess that's to be expected when the strike just recently ended. We're getting a Madame Web movie.  Not sure if I should be excited or not. An origin story for this character is not one I was exactly waiting for. Maybe if this were still the 90's... There's going to be a Justice League animated movie based on Crisis on Infinite Earths. Maybe they can finally get it right this time. That's all I saw.

 In case you're wondering, the reason this update is late is because I was busy doing too many things at once over the weekend. There were some projects that I was doing on the weekend, most of which I cannot talk about right now. And I'm still tending to them! But hopefully, they will be done soon. 

 King-Ohger 37: Lies To Your Beautiful.  A deep dive into the Black Ohger's origins and rise to power, followed be a shining solo hero moment, was not something I was expecting. Though I guess I should have known it would happen, and I'm glad it finally did. Now we finally understand why he is the way he is and why he operates the way he does. Any amount of lies are justified as long as you end up protecting your people, the food that feeds them, and the sacred legacy that your kingdom has become known for.

 Gotchard 11: Evil Within.  And now, I finally breathe a mental sigh of relief knowing that the story is finally taking place. It feels weird that Spanner told the students to stop messing around; if he is pro Chemie-capturing, then he should let them work. Still, the main story is a spy in the ranks. Weird that they kick off a major plot this way, but I hope it leads to bigger things later. And of course, the spy is the last character anyone would suspect. They kind of made the reveal too obvious, but maybe that's why they revealed the spy in the same episode rather than drawing it out for too long.

Hi there again, my crowd~!  A day late again? This time, I have a reason! Preparing for the holidays. But there is good news too~! Read and find out.

 So the biggest things that happened this past week were, a surgery and a robbery. My other lawn mower was stolen, and I still hadn't gotten over the first one being stolen.  I knew it was a matter of time, but I am still bummed. As for the surgery, it was for my uncle, and he seems to be fine. He's bouncing back, no problems. I really just need to get storage shed. There's no two-ways about it.

 I am late posting this update because I was preparing for Thanksgiving. Buying food and getting some things ready. Ran out of time on Sunday night to post this. But the good news is that I now have the rest of the week off!  And I'll be enjoying it to the max while also making some food for the big Thanksgiving feast with my family.

 Time for more trailers!  WB is saving and releasing previously scrapped projects. One of which is an animated Steve Urkel movie, about saving Christmas no less. Random and a little dated, but sure! Why not. Speaking of Christmas, Batman fans are going to be tested with Merry Little Batman. Not really for me, but maybe some fans will have enough of a sense of humor to like it. I might even enjoy it more than Lego Batman. Not sure if I mentioned it before, but there will be a sequel to Chicken Run. And finally, a Robot Chicken-style series called Pokemon Concierge was not on my bingo card, and I still have no idea if I should be thrilled or not. I am hoping that this will be an uncut/dual audio release.

 DonBros VS DonBuris: Humor Is Served.  Well, this definitely isn't a crossover movie, though there is a surprise cameo from another Zenkaiger actor. This is just a random movie that takes place somewhere in the later half of the DonBrothers TV show. It's the show's signature style of random humor on full display, and there was even a moment that actually got me to laugh. Perhaps DonBros was never meant to be that serious. Maybe stuff like this is what it was always meant to be about. I suppose if you're a fan of the show, you'll enjoy this movie just as much. You won't gain any lore or anything from watching it, but if tokusatsu tie-in movies aren't suppose to be essential viewing, then this movie definitely fits that bill. Originally, I was going to avoid this movie. Now that I've watched it, I almost wish I did, because it made my hungry!

 King-Ohger 36: You Can't Bury A Flower.  It's good to see that the Yellow Ohger didn't instantly take her kingdom back after all; seemed too easy in the episode previews. I would have preferred if her teammates (besides Red) sensed that something wasn't right about her, maybe some kind of suspicion that she wasn't acting like the queen they know. It felt like they were going in that direction for a while. Still, I like how it wrapped up. The impostor was outsmarted, and one kingdom is fully liberated.

 Gotchard 10: Mechanical Duet.  ...I suppose I'm happy this episode wrapped everything up with a happy ending? However, I can't help but get the feeling that this episode could have been more tragically driven in some ways. Also, gotta be honest, not really caring much for all these new Chemie combinations. About the only thing I noticed was that Goldmechanichor has a bulkier base than Gotchard's stardard base body. Not the first time we've seen a Kamen Rider toy with a bulky build, so they must be selling well.
