So as some of you know, I am visiting my friend Emiko in Japan right now. Even though I have with her and her family during my foreign exchange year in high school, she still takes me everywhere. Sometimes it's hard to keep up. XD I'm not complaining, though. She has been very hospitible towards me, and she makes sure that I am never bored. So last night, she decided to take me to the one place I didn't go during my foreign exchange year: the Gokurakuyu Aomori bath house. I refused to go back then because I hadn't quite adjusted to the new culture... and I would have felt awkward being naked with strangers. .-.
But yesterday, I decided to take the plunge. And it wasn't that bad. Very relaxing. No one was awkward about it at all. But considering the fact that it's June, I quickly became too hot in the bath. So I decided to get out and wait for Emiko in the lobby.
Out in the lobby, there was a young man named Satoru. He was 26, and very good-looking. Since there wasn't much else to do in the lobby, we decided to have a conversation.
We made very petty small-talk for what seemed like an eternity. Exchanging phrases such as: "Oh, you're from America? That's nice." and "I see. You're waiting on someone, too.". After awhile, I decided to ask about his line of work. He told me that he worked at a bookstore nearby, and he gave me his personal business card (which contained his cell number! yay!).
I was going to ask him if he wanted to hang out with Emiko and I that night, but then some kid who looked to be about 7 years old came out of the men's bathing room. He came right up to Satoru, and said "ね、パパ。今レディー家へ行きます。". Which means: "Hey, dad. I'm ready to go home now.".
Yep. That's right. DAD. I mean, I'm not holding it against you if you made some bad choices, or you're a widower or whatever. But damn! You can't even get married in Japan without your parent's consent before you're 20! He was only six years older than that! And even though he was very attractive, I wouldn't want to date him at this age because of that. I'm only 19. I do not want children right now. Or probably ever. Babysitting at age 15 was the best birth control I've ever received. Much better than Sex Ed.
Although, kudos to Satoru for being a good father and sticking around for the sake of the kid. Maybe humanity isn't completely corrupt after all.
Anyways, sorry for the long post. Here's a TL;DR I made in the form of a meme:
