  1. Spoiler

I'll give the show this: if what I've hear done about season 8 is correct, they may finally be changing things. Will have to wait and see.

I haven’t heard anything about that...

I dunno, it seems to be in an animistic or something. I usually don't watch those, but it's nice to hear a lot something different from this show.

  2. MLP feels like a very different show nowadays from its earlier seasons, for better and for worse. Those earlier seasons are what brought me into the show, and I feel like a lot of their innocence has been lost, but the stuff the show is doing now would never have happened back then.

    1. Thrond

      Thrond

I think we still would have gotten silly faces if Lauren was still working on the show. I don't think she controlled the animation department so much.

Also, are you agreeing with me or not? It's kinda unclear.

  3. I don't like the idea of MLP becoming more of an action/adventure show, but I think that if it took a hard swerve into comedy - essentially, became a sitcom every now and then - it'd benefit the show a lot.

    1. Thrond

      Thrond

I mean, everyone loves "The Saddle Row Review," including myself, and that's the closest to an outright sitcom the show's ever gotten. I at least primarily watch the show for its characters, and a sitcom style would really bring out the best from their interactions and personality quirks.

    2. theonenamedDJ

      theonenamedDJ

I agree, but I also like for it to have a good focus on character depth and growth and dealing with personal problems in addition to being light-hearted and funny (while still being for kids). Like a comedy with some drama.

    3. Thrond

      Thrond

It doesn't even need to transition entirely into a sitcom style! Just every now and then.

  4. Until we get a proper explanation of how the Cutie Map works and why the mane six always obey it without question, I am going to complain about it every single time it causes an episode's plot.

    1. Princess Book Horse

      Princess Book Horse

Honestly, I just want to see the map used more often in general. It feels like they don't want to use it anymore.

@Princess Book Horse I kinda hate it, so I'd rather it disappeared entirely.

  5. My head canon is that time moves differently in the Equestria Girls world than it does in the pony world, but what if it got so far out of sync that the pony CMC became older than the human mane six?

  6. I no longer think that Sunset Shimmer is paricularly important to the appeal of Equestria Girls. I think she is the least entertaining member of the main cast, because half the time she’s just a mellow voice of reason.

    1. Sparklefan1234

      Sparklefan1234

Sunset has felt like a background character in these latest EQG specials, IMO.

I think she shows a lot more personality in the Youtube shorts.

    2. Lambdadelta

      Lambdadelta

Because Equestria Girls lacks directions. They have no new cool plots, no new story arcs, and no directions. In Slice of life type of stories, the other girls are superior because their traits fit for those type of stories. Sunset and Twilight both fit for  adventure stories, grand scale conflicts. Twilight gets new story arc every season and Sunset got none of that lately. Twilight characters are flawed so there are a lot of things to work with, Sunset, on the other hand, is nearly perfect beside her temper which is the only flaw that you can make a story from it. I think Sunset is still a mascot of Equestria Girls, without her, this show will collapse but if you think she is not particularly important to the appeal of EQG, it's not a good new.

They better give us another EQG movie, I missed the time when EQG was a very big thing.

    3. Thrond

      Thrond

@Sparklefan1234 I think she showed plenty of personality in the short at the theme park. Her getting mad at the ring toss is one of my favourite Equestria Girls moments.

@Lambdadelta I think Twilight thrives best in the slice-of-life stories, where she gets to be dorky and weird and not just some heroic figure. Even Sunset is better when they start to make her just another character rather than the heroic leader of the group.

Why would Equestria Girls crumble without Sunset? The main six are better characters than her and watching them in a mundane human world is a lot of fun. If anything, taking Sunset out of the equation would remove a dead weight on the show.

  7. Okay so "Parental Glideance" was pretty fantastic. RD's parents are adorable! Having them be so overbearing and enthusiastic is just right for making it easy to see why they annoy her, but not so much that it annoys the audience. And it makes perfect sense for how Rainbow Dash turned out, as well! I'm just not so sure about that moral. I mean, as worded, it's wonderful, but I don't think Rainbow Dash was wrong to want her parents to dial it down a bit. I mean, they brought fireworks to a show! Isn't that a tad dangerous? I mean, it is adorable, but still. Would have loved it even more if it had stuck the landing and found a more nuanced moral.

    1. Thrond

      Thrond

      Aw jeez, sorry.

  8. Not really sure how, after all this time, people still think Newbie Dash promotes hazing.

    1. Megas

      Megas

I think the problem is more that it SOUNDS like the episode did. I don't believe the episode ever promoted hazing, nor do I believe the writers wanted that. If that's what people came out of the episode with, to me that just means the writers did a poor job of conveying the message

    2. Lambdadelta

      Lambdadelta

      Unfortune Implications?

    3. Thrond

      Thrond

Suppose so; it never came across that way to me, maybe because I never really viewed the nicknames as "hazing," per se. But the message isn't "oh, it's okay," it's more "this doesn't mean we think less of you," and it was always Rainbow who decided she was cool with that. Always thought that was obvious.

  9. It's really kinda ludicrous that people still believe that the mane six have reached a point where they can't develop anymore. One, people don't stop growing, and two, if there are no new stories to be told with the characters who define the show, then that doesn't mean the cast should change, that means it should end. And I don't think we're at that point!

    1. Chrylestia600

      Chrylestia600

I totally agree. I really don't understand why people think that at all. :/

    2. Lambdadelta

      Lambdadelta

The characters will keep growing, like real people should be. The problem is, did writers GROW tired of them ? ;)

    3. Thrond

      Thrond

@Lambdadelta I should hope not. When so many people still make fanfiction based on those characters, it's offensive to me that the people in charge of the show might not be interested in them.

  10. "Friendship University" - So Flim and Flam see racism as an opportunity to make more money? Why am I not surprised? I had a lot of fun with this one, especially with Flim and Flam's smug attitude and Rarity's dress-up shenanigans. Twilight being indignant isn't my favourite mode from her, but it still leads to a lot of fun reactions, and I enjoyed seeing the two of them sleuthing around. Starswirl got more depth than in the S7 finale, too! With that said, I do feel the moral is a bit tacked on at the end, and I'm not entirely convinced Twilight's motivations were pure. Perhaps she could have learned something about accepting competition.

That's the problem with obsessive shippers - often times they freak out over trivial things, are blind to common sense, and trying to reason with them is like talking to a brick wall

  12. MLP main character parents, ranked:

    1->Twilight's (friendly)
    2->Pinkie's (supportive)
    3->Fluttershy's (cute pushovers)
    4->Rainbow's (loud but well-meaning)
    5->Rarity's (who?)

Applejack and Fluttershy also appear to be immortal since neither of them have

I would've added Rarity if she hadn't recently celebrated a birthday during an EQG Youtube short.

Nah, people have their own tastes. People get upset that season 2 is my least fav season. Still incredible just my least fav

  14. I wonder what Sunset Shimmer's first experience with video games was like. Was it love at first sight? I bet it was hilarious.

    1. Soren Peregrine

      Soren Peregrine

Probably. It would be cool to see a flashback scene of that in EQG.

    2. PoisonClaw

      PoisonClaw

Assuming she got over her amazement of human technology, it probably helped her work out some of her anger and frustration. Not enough that she wasn't still a jerk at the time, but still...

    3. Thrond

      Thrond

@PoisonClaw For all we know, she didn't really get into gaming until after being reformed; I presume we don't see everything that happens. That sounds less funny, though.

  15. Season 6 still has yet to produce a single episode which I avsolutely hated, and it's the first season to do so.

    1. Cleverclover

      Cleverclover

I've got four on my list, which is more than I usually have for a season.

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

Sorry to hear that. My least favourite episodes this season have been significantly better than my least favourite episodes in every other season, which is especially refreshing after how much trouble I had with seasons 4 and 5.

      Kyoshi Frost Wolf

I have at least two, but this season has also produced some of my favorite episodes ever, so I can let those slide.

  16. So the movie has now dropped below 50% on the Tomatometer, like it deserves.

  17. I think a really fun episode could revolve around Starlight attending a kite festival. I like Starlight's kite interest so I'd like to see them commit to it so it seems less conspicuous.

    1. Kyoshi Frost Wolf

      Kyoshi Frost Wolf

Wouldn't mind seeing this either. It was a surprising little addition to her character so it being put on display would be neat.

  18. Headcanon:

Princess Celestia is a hardcore MMO fanatic.

Princess Luna can barely turn on a computer.

    1. Sparklefan1234

      Sparklefan1234

My headcanon would be to swap those because "Gamer Luna" is a thing in the fandom.

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

I'm not actually a big fan of the "gamer Luna" fanon.

My explanation is that Celestia had plenty of time to get used to computers, and likes MMOs because everyone sees her as just a normal pony, whereas Luna spent a thousand years on the moon and is thus completely out-of-touch with everything.

But then again, Equestria didn't even have computers during the time of the show, so I guess that point is moot.

      Thrond

Yeah, I found them. I’ve already seen that special in full though.

  20. So, re: Apple parents... I was always under the impression that people wanted to know where they are now, so I'm surprised that they're considering flashbacks and vague implications to have "delivered." I don't feel like I know that much more about them than I did before, and I don't know if this adds anything whatsoever to the series.

    1. Thrond

      Thrond

I like "Perfect Pear" way more than "Amending Fences," but it gives me the same feeling of being praised despite not doing that much special.

    2. Lambdadelta

      Lambdadelta

Amending Fences & The Perfect Pear are both episodes that i love, beside some reasons why i love them that similar to other people, i find them having some 'aura' that other episodes dont, oh yes, feelings, no, not the right words, ah ha, GOOD VIBES.

    3. Thrond

      Thrond

      They're both highly emotive.

  21. People seem really confused by me praising the latest MLP episode.

      Thrond

@Lambdadelta I said that I don't mind the CMC acting like children.

  22. As a person who would rank The Last Jedi as possibly the best Star Wars movie, I cannot fathom how The Rise of Skywalker is something anyone wanted. Some nice jokes and action sequences though.

    1. Megas

      Megas

most people generally agree that if you liked TLJ you'll probably dislike RoS a lot, especially seeing as how it blatantly undoes and retcons a lot of what TLJ established

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

I felt it had its moments; at the end of the day it's still Star Wars, even though it's easily one of my least favourite Star Wars movies. I'm even willing to defend the prequels to an extent. Probably would have been a lot nicer to the new movie if not for the terrible third act.

      Spoiler

It's not clear to me what was supposed to be interesting about the Palpatine stuff, though.

  25. Season 9 of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic continues to not be on Netflix, over a year later...

Look, there's a part of me that would rather pretend the show ended after season 8, but on the other hand there are several season 9 episodes that I would like to rewatch without pirating them.

    1. Sparklefan1234

      Sparklefan1234

"Going to Seed".  'Beginning of the End" and "Between Dark and Dawn" are the only S9 episodes

      I still enjoy watching.

"Sparkle's Seven" was fun the first couple of times for me but it lost it's "specialness" quickly.

    2. Thrond

      Thrond
