      Most of the distros are free so I'm not sure what you mean by dumping money to it and what makes it so good is that people who knows what they're doing with linux can customize it however they want and do so many things that other OS cannot do.

      @Urdnot - I've got too much to say on those matters than would fit here. I'm working on a blog about it that'll hopefully explain everything in a way that can satisfy nerds as well as normal people.

      As a CS major I'd love to use linux full time however there are very few programs that support linux. The programs that I need just to do my work aren't even on linux. Linux is the only operating system where it becomes a choir to open files. It's wonderfully open and customizable, but only if you have the time for it. One day I'd love to make my own linux distro, but until more programs support it, there really is no good reason to use linux for day to day computing.
