  1. ITT: people come picking the low-hanging fruit to invalidate the entire thing and then label meme while decrying identity politics
  2. >tfw you will never become so hardcore in war that you're deified after death >you will never by synctretically married into several religions as a result >you will never appear before a zen master as a spoopy ghost and learn the ways of the Buddha and become a spirit guarding the monasteries. Such is Guan Yu.
  3. 80's stuff? 80's stuff. You like Huey Lewis and the News? Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Huey released this; Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself. Hey, Paul!
  4. Literally Life of Brian. Or the Holy Grail. Really, if you want to get down to it most skit comedy, or a good portion of it is a parody of something on some level. Parody or satire doesn't have to be about an existing book, movie, song, or video game. It can be about concepts, culture, or history. The definition of both as far as it goes for acting, writing, and/or performing is broad. By this extension, the Huey and Laurie skit about the Treaty of Westphalia is a pretty solid case. It's not only satirizing European history but actively makes jokes about the modern world through casual sarcasm about the future. And of course:
  5. To be fair when you work a 9-5 job and raise a kid it's not like you have the leisure time anymore to stay on top of the latest trends in children's entertainment, not like we do. Frozen probably just got a pass because it being Disney it had a marketing budget the size of the Swiss GDP and is so entwined with the present cultural consciousness it's hard to be uncomfortable with it. MLP on the other hand doesn't have nearly as severe a presence as anything Disney related, except for us nerds.
  6. I think the real fear isn't death itself but situations in which someone may die. Or what may kill. Ultimately, all fears involve in the worse scenario death. Fears of anything else are considered unhealthy. Death is feared only indirectly, but in its way only when the individual has no control, especially in these situations in which the individual is afraid of when death may occur. But really, this is a good topic to toss this out : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8gR4sQvjt4
  7. People comment on how people dress? And I thought this was only preparation for formal functions.
  8. It's 2016 what are ya'll not doing praising the fiddle, banjo, and mandolin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZz9bAp44fA
  9. It's pretty but it's going to get to the point where I'm going to be tired and I'm going to wish for the opportunity to go down south for a while to get away from it. Someone, get me down to New Orleans.

  13. The literal interpretation of this sounds like the proposition that gets people hanged.
  14. I'm going to have some fun and post this:
  15. Buddhism natively doesn't recognize the existence of a god. And The Buddha is not a god. While in Buddhism there are concepts of there being "gods" (devahs), their classification of being "gods" are loose and are basically beings living at a higher plane of existence that are happier, longer-lived, and something more powerful than man. But are not the focus of Buddhism, and arguably neither is Sidartha Gautama himself. The spiritual focus of Buddhism is inward, not outward; clinging to a god in Buddhism would be going against its precepts. To quote Alan Watts, you should kill God. God or gods stand in the way of the ultimate goal. But you also shouldn't kill god, not in the literal sense. It's simply removing attachment to the notion of God from your life to achieve enlightenment. That said in Buddhism's nature as a faith that easily melds itself into its native environment it's not unusual for it to accept dieties. As in the case of Tibetain buddhism. But the broad point still stands, there's no real focus on God in Buddhism as exists in the west for there to be a God to believe in and cling too. It takes on a similar notion as Jainism: there are higher beings but they have no impact on the world so don't cling to the notion of them intervening and instead work on the self to become as one of those. Hindu* God or gods aren't exactly important in Hinduism but is certainly easier, so the situation becomes much more muddled. While Siva and company are certainly important they're not explicitly necessary in the Yogic practice of Hinduism. There are other ways to attain spiritual advancement not strictly focused on worshiping a god and you can go on your life without giving them much credit.
  16. Does this make Sunset Shimmer her deadringer in EQG-land, to keep a watch on EQG Twilight and to protect her from XOF?
  17. And alicorn Twilight soon appears four issues after her last comic appearance. COINCIDENCE, I THINK NOT. Hasbro is Cipher, I don't know how or why but I know.
  18. Gentlemen, ladies, I would like to call your attention to a certain pretty white and pink poner. A certain nurse. A nurse Redheart, and her apparent disappearance from the show. Or rather, her disappearance from the "current" run of the show. In which I mean she is absent in all events from season 2 on through to season 6. In the interim she has had one appearance. But that one occurrence is in a flash-back. Save from one look into the past, the white nurse has been long missing from the show. And I would like to explore the circumstances of her sudden departure from existence in correlation to certain events. Nurse Redheart's last appearance in the show without the benefit of a flash back was in season 2's Baby Cakes episode. This was the last time she ever appeared on camera for a long time. There is plenty of mystery surrounding her disappearance. But a standing and solid theory is that she is now, in the show, Twilight Sparkle. Pending the availability of proof on the matter the consensus among small horse enthusiast super slooths and highly trained combat operation infiltrators suggests that the former Nurse Redheart is being utilized by agencies government or otherwise to act as a stand in for Twilight Sparkle as the real Twilight Sparkle embarks of friendship adventures far too dangerous or covert for the eyes and minds of normal fillies. Using face sculpting and memory magic, these mysterious agencies have reshaped Nurse Redheart into a dead-ringer for Twilight. Venom Twilight, if you will. The point of having a "Venom Twilight" is all the more clear after T. Sparkle's ascension in status as an alicorn and the Tirek incident in Equestria. If the princesses gave Twilight their magic to keep it safe from Tirek then it would be rightly presumed as a direct result of the Tirek incident that during or after a stand-in pony was chosen to operate on the behalf of Twilight Sparkle so that the real one might operate outside the normal sphere of activity. Nurse Redheart - Venom Twilight - is the Mare Who Sold the World.
  19. If Blackjack had a Trolley ethical dillema, the trolley would always loop back to run her over again and again. Thanks, Somber.

  20. Aw man, I could go for some quac and queso now.
