I think Twilight would have been so super cute if they made her a light or dark purple! I actually really like Surprise’s color scheme, and ADORE Rarity’s colors! the only thing I don’t like is Applejack’s lack of a hat

Lots of ponies suspect it was the timber wolves, but it would probably make more sense that they would have passed in a natural accident maybe when collecting crops. Some ponies say it might have been a barn fire, which is pretty plausible. Others suggest that Pear Butter could have died during childbirth. For that to happen, I would assume Bright Mac passed shortly before or after of natural causes or an accident. In the show, there’s no pictures of AJ, Mac, and Bloom with their parents so we can assume they were very young when they died. Here’s a good post which has some good explanations! As for any canon reasons, there are none :/ AJ or Mac never talk about them, they seem to not know much besides what Granny might have told them

I think it became a wasteland when all cutie marks were erased since you’re effectively removing everyponies personalities, aspirations, and motivations to be unique. If the show wanted to be real morbid, I think the chances of no pony surviving are high due to no real reason to. Well. Live. Living without any aspirations, talents, personality, free will or thought is just a life living in a shell of yourself. At that point, it would be easy to assume everypony just went extinct, not wanting to continue that suffering. On the other hand, if any pony survived it would be likely that they are simply living a sad quiet life. The reason it may appear so barren would be because they live elsewhere. Twilight could have also been making a point to Starlight, while I don’t believe she would lie purposefully this may not have actually been the future. In this timeline, the elements of harmony were probably lost to time :p With nopony able to hold the position or use the elements, they have no purpose.
