I would make a poll but for the life of me, I cannot remember all of Rarity's clients. so who do you think has been her toughest client?

A lot of her clients are really tough on her

Sapphire Shores is definitely the one who's been easiest - she's also one of her biggest celebrity clienteles, so that's really saying something.

Prim Hemline, although *technically* not being a client, had a harsh and unforgiving attitude when it came to doing her job - that certainly didn't help ease the pressure Rarity was facing because of Suri Polomare being a total bitch and take advantage of Rarity's giving nature - and given Prim was a judge at fashion week, I'd say she counts for something.

Then there's Hoity Toity, who was a little more forgiving than Prim, but what he had in being more forgiving was also met with being very picky and snooty, even though the initial designs the mane 6 walked out in were pretty much garbage (not Rarity's fault) he still was very persnickity and it took a lot to wow him - not as hard to please as Prim, though.

However, there's one client she had that was, without a doubt, her toughest - or, should I say, 5 of them.

Rarity wanted to please her friends very badly in "Suited for Success" - and all of a sudden, they were fashion gurus who knew everything about what Rarity had been working at her whole life. Her desire to please her friends likely created an emotional conflict - what if she did what was best for the designs and didn't give them exactly what they asked for? What would happen to her then? And if she didn't, and those gowns they were trying to "help" her design ended up going to the formal event of the year being designed by Rarity and they let who made them slip, what would become of her career and her passion?

It was a really tough spot, especially since she had to make 6 unique outfits for the gala, including her own. We saw what the fashion world thought of the dresses she custom tailored for her friends, but they were not only her client, but her friends that she cared about rather deeply. It was definitely a tough spot emotionally, and don't forget the physical strain that she was experiencing throughout that whole episode.

In the end, she was humiliated in front of all of Ponyville for giving into her friends' desires. She was faced with a conflict that was something that was very emotionally and physically strenuous for her, and when you add in the fact that the dresses were for free, the clients were her best friends, and where these dresses were going to be worn, you've got one hell of a challenge :D

So, the remane 5 in "Suited for Success" have got to be her toughest clients, followed by Prim Hemline in "Rarity Takes Manehattan" :D

I don't really consider Rarity's friends as ever having been clients per se since she did their dresses free of charge.

I googled the word "Client" and this was the definition I was given :D

cli·ent

noun

1.
a person or organization using the services of a lawyer or other professional person or company.
"insurance tailor-made to a client's specific requirements"

Doesn't say anything about having to pay ;)

Fluttershy, she's such a loudmouth...  :(

What she said there was actually pretty mean and insulting for a designer... Seeing what prêt-á-portier means...

Ready-to-wear or prêt-à-porter (pronounced: [pʁɛ.ta pɔʁ.te]; often abbreviated RTW; "off-the-rack" or "off-the-peg" in casual use) is the term for factory-made clothing, sold in finished condition, in standardized sizes, as distinct from made to measure or bespoke clothing tailored to a particular person's frame.

Me. I have been. And Fluttershy. That girl doesn't know what she's talking about. She says she wants different things on her dress in that one episode when Rarity offers that galloping gala dresses. She doesn't know what she's talking about.

I don't care what pony you like because I like everypony!

Yep, definitely her friends. We can see in Suited for Success just how much difficulty Rarity had to go through, which gave her more stress than any of her other clients. Not only was her career in trouble, but she wanted to please her friends as well.

I agree, her friends were the toughest. That episode was basically a lesson on what it's like to be a commission artist, dealing with the various types of problem customers

Fluttershy is the micromanaging know-it-all who thinks they know your craft better than you do. Pinkie is the scatterbrain who can't see the big picture and changes their mind constantly, after you've invested work time into things. Rainbow's type can't visualize to save their life, and won't know whether they like something until they see it finished. Applejack's type doesn't even want your product, and should be referred elsewhere. Twilight's type is detail-focused, demanding tons of little touches that nobody else would notice, and take a lot of time to do. If you're lucky, they actually have a solid vision of a unified design, and are willing to pay for it. Negative on both in Twilight's case >_>

And there's one more important customer they didn't parody due to the lack of money involved: the flake. All gung-ho in the beginning, but may lose interest before you're finished, quit responding to communications, or run out of money before making the final payment on the finished product.

Another actual Rarity client who needs mentioning is the puppeteer in Inspiration Manifestation. Not because he's a bad client, but because he demonstrates the importance of function over form. He came off as mean, but the error was entirely on Rarity for not understanding how the stage would be used before taking the commission. Functional crafts are very different from "pure artwork".

I agree with Ghost,

Suited For Success was brutal on Rarity, and I have dealt with those client types in my work for years. Pinkie, Dash, & Fluttershy especially.

On the wiki he does.  I'm not sure about in the episode.

It's not 100% sure then, (but maybe his name was mentioned in the credits.)
