So...is the Inspiration Manifestation thing dead?

There is no concrete answer to that question, but my personal theory is that it contained the spirit of some evil entity that manifested itself inside of Rarity when the book was opened. When it left Rarity, it returned to its prison - the book, which, Spike ate while it was shut and then digested it, so it's gone forever because the book was destroyed with the spirit trapped inside of it :D

Or was it not bound to the book and just using it as a way to connect with a victim?

It sounds a bit complicated to me.

No I think the book was the whole thing.

Spike better puke up that book,im not buying him digesting a spiritual entity.  :okiedokielokie:

In the episode the green dark magic left Rarity, and went somewhere.... else. It swirled around her, and then went off-screen. This was after the book was eaten.

So... likely it's still out there somewhere. In the same way Spike's comic book poofed away on it's own. Somewhere there is a repository of 'bad things Spike's responsible for'.

Well, the book's surely gone, that we know. :derp:

Who knows where the spirit is now though, or where it'll appear again... or if it'll appear again at all, we'll just have to wait and see in future episodes I guess.

I would think so. The way I see it the book was nothing more than a container for the spell itself, so when Rarity read from it the dark magic passed on to her. The book became nothing more than a regular object after that. Unless it was contained in another vessel after it was cast from Rarity's body, the wayward dark magic would have likely eventually dissipated.

The only thing we know is that it left Rarity.  Whether it is "dead" or not depends on whether the dark magic can survive without a spellbook "host"  (is particular, the magic was specific to that spell) or it is simply "pure" dark magic that can occupy other host spells.

I like to think it's the latter and that it is still out there.  But from what we know, it's equally likely it may have died soon after coming out.

Yet it's curious that all the stuff that Rarity created didn't disappear once she was free of it.  Twilight had to separately clean up the mess Rarity made through magic, which may mean that the spell had two separate components all on its own, one that allowed Rarity to create (which needed a host) and one that sustained all of the stuff in the outside world (which didn't).  So "Inspiration Manifestation" may still be dead, but not because Spike alone broke the spell.
