GXPBlast 597 July 14, 2014 Share July 14, 2014 (edited) When I joined the forum I mentioned in my introduction that I am not a big fan of the show despite giving multiple episodes a try. I did enjoy some aspects of it but I could not fully enjoy the episodes. However, that said there are a handful of episodes I did enjoy which are usually the latter as there is some brony influence. I really did enjoy the Maud Pie episode and I especially did enjoy the Season 4 finale as it was freaking epic along with some other episodes. But as a whole I did not enjoy the MLP the show. But there is one big thing that the MLP has bring about and thats the bronies. By creating such as large fan base came fan made works. Such works include fanfictions, artwork, animations, and fan made episodes that rival Hasbro themselves and even better in my opinion. Being the HUB network, Hasbro limits its writers to certain constraints even with the brony influence. Sure they added more things for an older audience and especially to the bronies, but its still constrained or the writers are not that creative which is the less likely cause. Despite not liking the show much, I became a brony due to this amazing fandom. On sites like YouTube there are fanmade animations that rival the show itself and in some cases are much better quality in my opinion. Not only that, since they are not constrained by the HUB network very talented bronies with animating skills have created fan made videos and full episodes of MLP that the show itself is missing. Animations like Button Mash, SnowDrop, Fall of the Crystal Empire, and Epic Wubtime are among the few that I believe beats most of Hasbro MLP episodes in terms of quality and storyline. Furthermore what makes these animations more valuable and amazing is that they are made by fans of MLP and in many cases by a few people with little to no animating budget yet they can rival the show itself. With that said there is an animation that has been released recently called Project Thundercloud. I have to say after watching this it has to be the best MLP episode not made by Hasbro and even rivals the Season 4 finale in my opinion in terms of storyline quality. Check out the animation for yourselves. Anyone else think that Bronies produce better content then Habro as well? Also what do you think of us bronies that are not big fans of the show but became a brony due to this awesome fandom and the content they produce? Moreover, are you a brony that is not a fan of the show but are one due to the fandom? Edited July 14, 2014 by GXPBlast
Jeric 46,881 July 14, 2014 Share July 14, 2014 For me it's about the show first, but unlike most other properties I am a fan of, the Brony community is inseparable from my enjoyment of the show. It isn't as much a situation like the 'come for the Ponies stayed for the Bronies' as it is for other fans. I technically knew more about the creative fan content and the growing fan base before I watched a single episode so it may stem from there. I look at it like an Oak Tree with many branches holding thousands of acorns. (I almost typed Alicorns instead of acorns BTW ... sigh). I've also used a tapestry metaphor where some threads made by the fans are now a part of the complete piece. The fan labor projects enhance my enjoyment of the show. But I can't bring myself to say they are 'better' than the show. It's part of the whole experience.
Justin_Case001 4,934 July 14, 2014 Share July 14, 2014 I can definitely see where you're coming from, OP. The community makes some amazing stuff. Now me, I absolutely love the show itself. Projects like this Shadowbox or My Little Dashie, my personal favorite fan work, wouldn't have much meaning for me without the show. And they wouldn't exist, obviously. I love all of it. I do love that the community can make more powerful and mature stories than the show can, due to the constraints of it being a kids show. But I wouldn't want the show to actually change. I just love having both. I love the fact that having an adult fanbase meant it was inevitable that more mature stuff like this would be created. It's all part of the experience, like @Jeric said. I can also understand why a person might want to become a member of this community even if he or she has no interest MLP or the fan works whatsoever. Maybe someone has no interests in the show, but loves the ideology of this community and wants to show their support. After all, this is the most accepting, respectful, open-minded, and tolerant community I've ever seen.

Mephala 2,635 July 14, 2014 Share July 14, 2014 I disagree that bronies produce better content than the company that, you know, OWNS the rights to MLP. In my opinion, that animation was garbage; the plot made about 0 sense not to mention the blatant fanservice of making popular BG's marry one another and wield the Elements, and Snowdrop and this both treated disabilities in a way that is completely incorrect and are merely made to try and make the viewer feel sorry for the characters. This one was better than Snowdrop in that regard, but literally it made no sense about what was going on, I had no idea. .-. Celestia just casually becomes corrupted by something? IDFK. Also what happened to the other Elements? Celestia was just like "ohlol I can take on two earth ponies two pegasi a unicorn and an alicorn that have defeated enemies I can't"? Yeah, okay. Sure. In any case, I like the fandom for the fanfics, not much else. It's a good opportunity to make other races and use magic, etc. Besides that, I think a lot of it is just bad. Silver Letter 1,832 July 14, 2014 Share July 14, 2014 The point of the fandom is to be inspired by the source material which is genuinely superior to anything a fan might create. It's not about being "better" in terms of animation or story. It is about following an aesthetic. If someone doesn't understand that then they are not a fan at all. I won't humor them by calling them as such nor shall I wish to embrace them in the fandom. 2 Silver Letter!!! There tends to be a wide array of artistic principles and styles being used that are not influenced by the vectors in the show, and you can make a case that some Bronies may be attracted more to digital watercolors (for instance) over the simplified vector style. If said Brony appreciates that fan content more than the source style, are they not a fan anymore? I don't know if I misread that comment, but I apologize if I did. WunderWaffen_ 165 July 14, 2014 Share July 14, 2014 Wow. That video was amazing. The lighting, Animation, voice acting, and visual design were fantastic. It seems to me like it was made in a 3D design program, And to animate 2D characters within that 3D world is incredibly hard, brohoof to this. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ STEAM | YouTube Embrace your enemies hate, Live in it, Become it. I am meaning the style of the show as it relates to how it is written and approached. If a person does not appreciate the show content then they are not much of a fan in my opinion. 2 Silver Letter!!! There was going to be a part three explaining some of the questions many people had regarding the animations story. But that was cancelled due to legal reasons and another project is being planned. I am guessing Hasbro was threatening another C&D being the way they are. Edited July 15, 2014 by GXPBlast
