Lgbtq bronies caught in the Crossfire between Haters and the fandom

So I have noticed a trend even in the best parts of the fandom like that awesome Documentary; The accuasation and out right denial of homosexuality among bronies.

Now I know I am a minority in the fandom but it feels like the community holds up this "We are NORMAL STRAIGHT people who like ponies" a little TOO enthusiastically. I also know the trolls who go "mlp is gay herp derp" are dumber then a box of...well no that would be insulting to Mauds rocks.

I guess my question is why not say "All kinds of people from all walks of life are in this fandom" instead of this mantra that its mostly straight people (which I know it is). It kind of makes bronies like me with "alternative lifestyles" feel they are not welcome among the herd.

Thats my two cents anywho.

I'm not gay or bisexual, but I have met gay Bronies, and they're just like every other Bronies out there: Pretty cool people who like ponies.

I've always hated the excuse people give us for liking it, because we're gay. Hey, there may be some gay people out there who like it, but let me ask you this: What does being gay mean? All it is to me is just a different sexual preference. What's wrong with that? Nothing, yet people still find it "evil" or some shit like that.  >_>

its probably just a few straight bronies who are probably frustrated that there are LGBTQ people amongst the herd and probably feel that by admitting that they are there is making the trolls correct.

It's not that people are ashamed that there are LGBTQ people in the fandom. I think people just get frustrated by the fact that Haters think we are ALL gay and want to correct them by saying we are mostly not.

Well, I can certainly see where your coming from.

I personally am straight, but I know there are gay, bi, lesbian, and other bronies within the fandom, even on these very forums I know several.

I have no problem with any of them, and I feel like the vast majority of bronies do not either.

I think it's just bronies get frustrated at haters saying that we are automatically gay for liking MLP, and they want to express that liking MLP doesn't mean your gay. It doesn't mean your not, but bronies want to express not all bronies are gay, even if there are exceptions, it just comes out wrong sometimes.

Its just because theyre trying to emphasize that not every brony is gay. Most arent. Its not 'shaming' the gay portion or 'trying to be inclusive', its a person being fed up with people saying that if youre a brony youre gay. Calm down .-.

I only love you platonically.

As in plate tectonics.

As in two bodies sliding against each other.

There are some bronies that are way too defensive about the accusations of homosexuality in the fandom ironically has the opposite effect with it coming off as a case "he doth protest too much". In most cases this isn't to deny there are gay bronies but to downplay it as attempt to "prove" that not every brony is gay which is a bit ridiculous because trying to "prove" something to a troll is like trying to teach a pig to fly. It is not done out of any inherent disrespect toward gay bronies in most cases but for reasons I already stated it is really something that is counterproductive.

Of course what really pisses me off is the lengths some bronies will go not to "prove" they aren't gay specifically but to go out of their way to stigmatize and scapegoat certain aspects of the fandom to prove they aren't like "those bronies". The downplaying the gay thing is part of it but isn't nearly as bad as the white knights who are ironically drawing unnecessary attention to the very things they want to distance themselves from.

I will add to this i saw a study that went to bronycon and asked a few hundred people what their sexuality was 85% of them were straight. Now i will say i dont know any LGBT bronies heck most of my brony friends including myself disagree with homosexuality (yeah i know yell at me if you want) but that doesnt mean we give to craps if someone is gay or not.

Basically this.

It's not that bronies have anything against gay people. It's just that one of the common insults pointed towards us is "lol ur gay". People assume that watching a show targets to little girls makes them automatically gay, and I think that sentiment hurts straight people and gay people alike. It's not about denying that some bronies are indeed homosexuals. It's about defusing the stereotype that all bronies are gay, and that you can only like something perceived as "girly" if you are gay, as if that was some kind of stain against your character.

I am glad for the overwhelmingly positive responses to this topic. In a lot of ways being a brony is similar to other stigmatized paths like homosexuality in the sense that there is heated percecution from people who don't understand or want to understand. It is for this reason standing together is better than seemingly scapegoating segments of the fandom.

While I generally roll my eyes at P.C lingo I will say HOW you word things greatly impacts how it is recieved.

Saying "All kinds of people are in this Fandom as well as gay and straight" has a far different tone from "Hey I am not gay, most bronies arent gay either!".

If you want the Brony fandom to grow even bigger, be the bigger pony and show our fandom as welcoming to all who would come. The haters would just help our cause then.
