Names and Cutie Marks

Well, I'm about 90% sure this topic was already discussed about but I couldn't find the old one (and no way am I looking through 120 pages to find it).

 

Anyway, what is with the names of Ponies being linked to their cutie marks? Diamond Tiara's cutie mark is a...diamond tiara. Silver Spoons is a silver spoon. Featherweight has a feather for his cutie mark. Snips has scissors and Snails has a snail. So are the ponies names somehow connected to their cutie marks/destinies?

Pinkie Pie isn't.

Unfortunately, I think that's because "it's just a cartoon", and the writers are too lazy to find a cutie mark completely different from their name.

I think there is some sort of tradition in some pony families to rename their children after they got their cutie marks or something. And it is so old that it is not done too often.
