Storm and Pinkie, having arrived at Sugarcube Corner, hopped over to the counter. "Five Chocolate Chip Challenge muffins please!" Storm declared happily, "Oo~! And a cherry-no TWO cherry muffins, a chocolate muffin, a Rainbow Swirl cupcake, a blueberry muffin, and three Strawberry Chip cupcakes!" Pinkie chirped. "What would you like Book?" Storm asked with a smile.

Book listened to their orders be all sugary. "I guess a chocolate cupcake and an extra-big chocolate chip cookie would be nice please..." Book said, thinking about it a bit. He was thankful for Storm ordering his food for him since he didn't have the money on him.

"Heh, sounds like someone's got an appetite."

 

The clerk - a hazel mare with blue mane, tail and eyes plus a cinnamon roll for a cutie mark - began to scope the orders up on the desk one by one, placing them in a big to-go box, just in case they weren't able to get everything down at once, or were planning for a picnic.

 

The Cake's had taken some days off to get some family time with the twins and had hired a couple of part timers to help run the shop while they relaxed on their small home vacation. Mrs. Cake still did the actual baking early in the day, and in case there was a big rush of ponies all of a sudden that emptied out the storage fast, but otherwise it was mostly Pinkie Pie, a stallion called Mist Chaser and Swirly Bun that stood for the sales.

 

Pinkie Pie was good at her job, but she couldn't always be there, hence why there were the two temp ones there to take care of things as well if needed.

 

All the things packed - with Book Quill's additions on top - she looked at the happy couple and their guest with a smile.

 

"Anything else?"

Pinkie quickly snatched up her part of the order and left towards a table with a quick, "Nwopersh" through the items she was holding with her mouth. He asked with a smile.

She should have known that Pinkie Pie would be a fast one and snatch things before they were all gathered in one, but she was still new to this temp job. Perhaps in due time, if she got more shifts, she would grasp the finer details on ponies here.

 

Oh well, the orders had been the right ones and nothing was broken, so there wasn't a real rpblem anyway, just something that'd be good to keep in the back of her head to another time.

 

((I don't know exactly how the prices are, so couldn't put a number in. Imagine it something reasonable.))

Storm nodded and put his head under his wing, "Uh-oh.." was heard along with a sigh, before he pulled his head back into view holding a large bag of bits. He dropped the large amount of bits onto the counter, "Sorry that it's not exact change, but on the bright side you can keep the change!" He chirped with a smile before grabbing his order and trotting over to sit next to Pinkie.

Pinkie's eyes widened, "Oo~ I love Cotton candy, and cake, and cupcakes, and candy-candy, and sugar candy, and rock-candy, and pies, and fritters, and snow-cones, and-" "Pinkie, I think he meant your one most favorite..." Storm interrupted with a chuckle. Pinkie's eyes widened again, "Ooohhss~" She uttered in realization. "I don't have one!" Pinkie chirped with a grin.

Mezra look at the filly in her arms. "Awwwwwww. Fine." She gave the filly one more nuzzle and set her down on her hooves. She made a face and let out a sigh. She then looked over to Brittle. A cheeky smirk mad its way on her faces. Then she quietly made her way over to the changeling. Then she asked in a soft voice. "Hey. Brittle, can I hug you?"

At the mention of a possible hug Brittle froze. It had been sort of okay when Storm Shine had done it and he was friendly b-but... Oh, what if Mez was trying to get her near, and then make her fire thing? Was she trying to b-burn her?

 

The thought made her give a small meep as the jade flames ran over her again, playing it's uncontrollable little game of mix and match with her. In this case, she was once more seated with a dragons tail, though onyx this time and her eyes turned completely black with a small glimmer like a star in the sky settling in the middle of them. Her wings disappeared along with her horn and her fur became a neon-white with random red swirls here and there. As to her mane, it had gotten short, spiky and looked a little like moss. Like always, the only thing that showed it was still her were the grey bow she had on her head that was still stuck, although now in the mossy mane.

 

Brittle lifted a hoof and went a few inches back and forth with it in the air before placing it a tiny bit in front of her, giving an audible gulp before looking up and talking to Mez from near the ground where her head, as usual, were still near..

 

"I-I guess you c-could, but... Only a l-little one... O-Okay?"

 

She wasn't sure what to think of this, but... If something bad would happen, Briar would save her... Right? Even if he was a little long away for her comfort right now. It wasn't a thing that mattered as she could hear him take a few steps towards her before stopping, still giving her the space she needed while still being close enough in case something happened.

 

S-She just hoped that nothing would happen... Not when things were finally looking up.

Book smiled at her listing treats. He nodded at what Storm said in agreement. "Few favorites then?" He asked her instead of just one favorite treat of her's. Book was smiling and curious of an answer from the bouncy pink mare.

She nodded, giving Storm a hug. "I like all kinds of stuff, so it's always hard to choose a favorite... Especially since if I choose a favorite, then it shows favoritism and if I show favoritism, the other foods might get jealous!" Pinkie explained. "Yeah, and jealous foods aren't nearly as fun to deal with as gelatinous foods like Jell-O..." Storm agreed.

Mezra had a big smile and wide eyes full of amazement as she watch Brittle transform. "Awesome!" She said in a hushed shout. Then she thought over on how she could hug Brittle that wouldn't scare her or make her uncomfortable. After thinking about it. She slowly wrapped her arms around her and pulled her head close to her chest. Then she gently stroked her mane, giving her a nuzzle once or twice. "For some reason I like to hug others. Even after we just met. I think it's because I never been hugged when I was growing up in the orphanage. Even after that I spend most of my time alone. But soon some ponies find their way to my neck of the woods. That or I meet them on my trips. But thanks to one mare and a random hug filled with kindness and understand, just got me hook on hugging."

Storm smiled. "Muffins." He said happily, "Almost any flavor or shape, my favorite baked treats are muffins!" Pinkie giggled and nodded, "They really are his favorite, and he makes some really~ good ones too!" She informed Book with a smile. "And he'll experiment with new recipes and shapes and stuff all the time! I generally enjoy offering my expert bakery skills to help him get the recipes right.."  Pinkie said proudly, rubbing a hoof against her chest.

"A.K.A. She likes to taste test and eat the muffins until I can figure out the best ingredient measurements for the optimal muffin flavor..." Storm stage whispered to Book, causing Pinkie to pout. "It's not my fault you make them so well..." She whined cutely. "I never said it was a bad thing Pinkie..." Storm smiled at her.

Book smiled, thinking about his muffin earlier that Storm gave him. He chuckled, thinking about the conversation they had on the name might make Blitz think to light the muffin on fire.

"Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!" Storm told Books happily, glad to share the joy of muffins. Suddenly he went slightly rigid, a single feather twitching on each of his wings. "I feel a disturbance in the hug force.... Almost like I missed out on awesome huggles somewhere...." He said, looking out the window. Storm relaxed a bit, "Oh well, huggles are never a bad thing so it's nothing to worry about..." He said, going back to his muffins. "Don't worry Stormy, I've gotcha covered!" Pinkie chirped, giving him some quality huggles. "Thanks Pinkie!" Storm exclaimed, perking up a bit as he huggled her back.

Brittle stayed still during the hug, if you ignored the slight shaking and the more and more closed eyes she put out during it that was.

 

When she was eventually put down she gulped again while her head were lowered and her eyes looked at Mez with... Worry? It was hard to tell with the completely blacked eyes and the tiny light in the middle.

 

"I-I don't... Hug much."

 

She took a few, tiny steps backwards until she felt the approaching Briar's leg against hers. Brittle was still very nervous around others, but the plant pony made her feel a little safer, and it made her able to talk to Mez a little more.

 

"At l-least... I don't t-think so... Can't remember a-anything. Not... Not b-before the c-circus..."

 

She never knew the name of the circus that had her before, but she still had trouble even saying the name circus without letting it get to near a whisper, almost as if she was afraid that they were near and listening in after her. Mez wasn't from there, she knew that as the faces of the ponies that ran the place were always there in her nightmares, but that didn't make her any less afraid that they might be somewhere near and listening for her, irrational as it might be.

Book blinked at being hugged and shrugged, hugging back. He hugged Pinkie too and blinked in surprise when Storm picked them both up due to their smaller group hug. He shrugged and smiled. "Yay for group hugs!" Book smiled and kept hugging the stallion and mare.

"Hey there. Got something with a bit if zing to it? Like a sharp lemon taste or the like?"

 

Last Stand had just wandered in and hit a spot where there wasn't a line when she entered so she'd been able to go directly to the clerk which fitted her fine. She didn't like standing in line in general and having fresh stitches done wouldn't have helped much on her mood if that had been the case.

 

The clerk saw the wound too, roughly the length of the stomach (give or take a hoof) going under the blade in the scabbard. She kept quiet about it though and just looked over the wares instead, pulling up a yellow swirl muffin with lemon shaped candy on.

 

"Doesn't get more lemony than this without making a sour frown."

 

Last Stand nodded, paid for the muffin and moved over to the side where she could try to enjoy the sharp.smelling thing.

 

Before she got a chance to chow down on it she heard a small commotion and automatically looked the way, seeing three ponies in what appeared to be a hug pile with big smiles on their faces. She looked them over a little more before returning her attention to the baked goods she had ordered to improve the day a tad.

 

Hugs weren't ordinary when she's grown up, so she had a hard time really understanding the fascination some ponies had with it and if it was done because you were happy or to make you so, but that was the bane of her life, analysing everything to the point of being clueless about the simpler things.

 

Still, even if she couldn't understand it fully, she could see one thing about the trio: They looked rather happy. Was that because of the hug or something else? Damned if she knew, but she suppose it didn't matter either. Oh well, time to taste the cake and see if it had some bite to it.

 

Last Stand would take a little taste before raising her eyebrow slightly and starting to chomp down the rest. Seemed like it were to her taste.

"Hiya!" Storm greeted, standing next to the newest pony. "I'm Storm Shine, nice to meet you!" He informed the mare happily, holding out a hoof. "And I'm Pinkie Pie!" Pinkie said from the as of yet unknown mare's other side. "Welcome to Ponyville, what's your name!?" She greeted/asked eagerly.

Book looked over the pony curiously and noticed the stitches that were quite long. He smiled at the mare. "Hello there stranger." He greeted the new pony. "Who're you?" Book asked her curiously. Last Stand looked up from her half eaten cupcake and looked the three former huggers over with her narrow, ice-blue eye. Two Pegasi and an Earth pony that all looked as harmless as just before when they had been in their embrace just before seemed to be what the score was, so she nodded back at them before responding the the triple greetings.

 

"Name's Last Stand."

 

She took the outstretched hoof and gave it a quick shake. Storm should be able to feel the strength in it, but as it was brief, it would perhaps be overlooked. It mattered little to Last though. The enthusiastic Pegasus wasn't somepony she had to test dominance against or be prepared to fight from the looks of things, so she didn't have to engage in the small tests of strength like who got the strongest shake with him. It should be relaxing really, but when it was the norm for you, it became unnerving when it wasn't happening.

 

Still, she could be civil. With the taste of the baked goods still in her mouth and the stitches she got now done so she didn't bleed all over the place anymore, her mood had risen to the higher parts of the scale. Sure, she didn't smile, but the neutral look over her slightly scarred face and the lack of a hardness in her eye was more or less as good as it got.

 

Just seeing with one eye didn't mean that she missed things though, for example the look the calmer of the trio had sent towards her stitched stomach. Not surprising, considering that this town seemed very relaxed and non-violent in it's whole, so nothing that really caught her interest more than just noticing. Still, she would direct her next words towards him, in part because she knew not who he was.

 

"Thanks for the welcome, but mind if I ask who you are?"

Pinkie quickly jumped from the floor to a standing position on Storm's head, who gave no indication that he noticed the action. "Oh, Oh! I'm Pinkamena Diane Pie, But you can just call me Pinkie Pie!" She introduced excitedly, bouncing on Storm's head. "I'm Storm Shine, but just call me Storm.." The blue pegasus informed Last Stand with a friendly smile. "It's nice to meet you!/do you wanna be our friend!?" Storm and Pinkie said at the same time, the pink mare still bouncing up and down on the head of the blue pegasus.
