Speaking of Doom, I cranked up Brutal Doom as far as I could and I'm still never getting below 140 even though I got 80 not even maxed out on my old machine.

ZDoom and Zandronum.

USE THEM.

GZDoom is also good, once you have the game playing with mouse-look like a modern shooter it doesn't feel that dated.

So, I'm about to try the Evil Within but this build bent Serious Sam II(maxed out and 1080p) over backwards and it was running like 100FPS+.

And, daring, how was I presenting my opinion as fact?
Kept saying that the Star Wars game was "better" because it had free, mouse-based camera movement, even though Doom is a much more historically significant game, limitations of game development in 1993 in mind.

Mods included,

Doom is better.

The reason why DOOM is my favorite game is because you can have it any flavor you want because of all the mods.

Skip to 9:48 on this video to see what I mean:

(Also explaining why classic is better than 3, that is if you want to watch the whole thing.)

I had to turn it down from 1080 to like 1600x1050 but the Evil within is running good at well over 30FPS at all times and settings on high with everything enabled.

I'm playing with a Xbox360 gamepad and it feels pretty good and I'm enjoying it so far.

I'm also enjoying having Shadowplay to show my FPS(haven't tried using it yet, I have it set to total manual and not recording at all)

You could still get a decent amount of cash for a 760, I'd do it.

Biggest things drawing me towards the 970 are the extra 2GB RAM and the massive increase in GPU performance. If I do get a 970 I'll probably get the EVGA 970 FTW. Supposed to run wicked cold even under load, only 66°. It'd probably better balance my system too, as I have the top-tier Haswell i5 but then a mid-high-end card.

The FTW 750ti is the same way, I watched one review where someone maxed out BF4 on it and it stayed at 50 degrees with the fans never speeding up past the minimum 42%.

That sure sounds like Maxwell doing its thing. Even the higher-end 970 and 980 don't require the fans to spin until the core's at 65°.

Just curious, but what's that one piece of hardware, tool or anything that's indispensible for you all? Some people swear by a certain thermal paste, for example.

My oddball one would me optical drives, I know so many people are going 100% digital some cases don't even have drive-bays but they'll new-boards and/or windows will have to stop supporting before I'll have a computer without one.

I had a 3.5" floppy up until I had nowhere to plug it in on a new motherboard. :eww:

Mine's probably electrical tape. Nice to have on hand if I need to make a new connector for a fan and more recently I use it to cover the bright as fuck LEDs on my router and modem. The ability to turn off these LEDs in software seems to be exclusively on higher-end routers. Cost me about $4 for a roll of tape.

Hello, I am but a lowly peasant with a terrible computer.

I am hoping to upgrade and was wondering if I could get any advice.

I am currently looking at this computer

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J9D4MVW/ref=s9_hps_ft_g147_i2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_r=1WVNPXF4ATE69AHPA8ZM&pf_rd_t=1401&pf_rd_p=1880497982&pf_rd_i=1000933821

You should build the system yourself because it is cheaper, you get more control over what will be in it, and you can switch out the parts any time.

For example: If you want more power and speed, then get a SSD and the best CPU and GPU. Or maybe you want lots of storage with 16GB RAM and 5TB HDD. It's all your choice.  ;)

Are you willing to build yourself?

If not, there are many manufacturers I would recommend before CyberPowerPC.

GT 610 is garbage for gaming and it has an old, weak processor. It's also always better to build your own PC rather than getting a prebuilt, more control over the specifications and it's a much more rewarding experience.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/XL7DmG Here's a better PC. Sure, you have to build it, but is building a PC hard? No, not really. And no, you don't have to go with that PC, but it's an example of what you can get on a budget.

I built a PC would would probably be $1000+ pre-built for $680 or so($800 including the monitor), so I'd also advise you learn how and build yourself(especially if your budget is that small)

Almost forget, here's a couple pics(I get the best I could but arranging cables is a ass)
