Ehhh... I'd rather avoid them, they have been involved in numerous shady things like selling stolen keys and poor support for those affected by stolen keys. GreenManGaming, meanwhile, is legit.

Wait, what? Stolen keys? How do you even steal a digital key?

I'm going computer huntin'. Hoping to get a DOS computer, a Win98 computer, and a high-end Linux Desktop (maybe)

Gotta play that old school Doom, though! Without a mouse! DOS ftw :squee:

Dark.

Forces.

OMG

Also, Ultima Underworld.

Why Ultima Underworld? Without it, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, and Bioshock would likely not exist.

DOS is the greatest gaming platform of all time.

Here's my top 5 gaming platforms:

1. SNES

2. DOS

3. Windows

4. Gamecube

5. PS2

My DOS gaming rig (once I build it) will probably look something like this:

640x360 monitor

1GHz Processor

512 MB ram

10GB Hard Drive

2 Floppy Drives

1 CD Drive

Sound Blaster Pro 16 card

Can't really go wrong with the ever-popular S3 family. I had a #9 968-based board that did well in DOS games. Tseng ET4000 and 6000 chips were reputed kings of DOS gaming as well. Voodoo Banshee, what else...

I'm assuming that the specs I posted are ridiculous for a DOS machine, right?

I'll just get whatever comes up when I go to the store. I know nothing.

That's the thing about DOS gaming, it spanned quite a long time period so I guess it comes down to -- is there any specific game you'd like to play with it? Most of the time, I hear Doom -- which is awesome, because... it's Doom. laugh.png

To give you an idea of specs, I used this machine to play Doom in 1994: 486SX 33 MHz ("The S is for sucks. -J. Romero), 4 MB of RAM, a 230 MB hard disk and a Diamond SpeedStar Pro VL (with an entire meg of DRAM).

That said, you'd be hard pressed to find anything remotely close to that age in a thrift store, let alone a store in general. Unless you're really big on collecting and are prepared to look high and low for some vintage hardware, DOSBox is not a bad solution at all. Of course, if I had the funds and more room, I'd love to collect some of this stuff... nom.png

Oh, you can. Ever hear of people getting their games revoked on Steam or Uplay because the codes were stolen? These codes were sold on gray market sites like Kinguin and G2A.

Personally I wouldn't touch them with a 39.5" pole.

Entries for Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 and Halo 3 exist in the Steam database, but nothing has been done with them yet. Occasionally they get updated but they are unreleased.

Thinkin of upgraing my rig soon. Trying to decide what I want to do first.

I want to upgrade my GPU and get two to SLI.

I want to add another hard drive for a Linux OS.

Also considering adding some more memory and potentially upgrading the CPU, though I'm not sure I need it yet.

Im not sure I want Halo 3 going on PC. I dont want the player base on the 360 version getting any smaller because most people would be moving to the PC version. its already hard enough to find a good game because of the release of MCC.

Halo 1 and 2 make sense, Halo 1 didnt have online multiplayer and Halo 2's online multiplayer has been shut down since 2010.

Why SLI instead of a more powerful single card?

Some of us are already on top-end card like a GTX780 or GTX980 and don't want to have to toss them out, sell them on or put them in a weaker system just to upgrade to something like a Titan (Black, Z or X), so SLI is a better option for us. Edited by Technous285

I guess we'll have to have to wait for Lagrangian's response. Is because, you probably know more than I do, that not all games run SLI setup well. Supposedly DX12 is to improve SLI/crossfire to the point where the cards are seen as a single entity which supposedly also allows the combination of the multiple VRAMs, but many have warned not to be too excited about it or else be highly disappointed.

Fair enough, but on the general line for (2-way) SLI Vs. non-SLI, it usually goes something like SLI'd 980's > Titan X > SLI'd 970's > 980 > 970 > 960. I haven't seen many comparisons where 960's in SLI sit, so haven't put them in the line up. And a pair of Titan X's in SLI will basically wreck the s**t of any other current card setups.

I believe DX12 & Vulkan (OpenGL's counterpart to DX12, advancing over Mantle but working on both AMD & Nvidia) will help step things forward and make SLI/XFire configs a lot more reliable and usable than they currently are. I do hope that it'll also allow you to mix-n-match AMD & Nvidia cards properly once again, something Nvidia has gone out of their way to kill off in recent years with driver updates and such.

If SLI/crossfire setups could actually be identified as a single card to the PC... that would be such an amazing thing. Would probably always choose multi card setups over a more powerful single card setup if that turns out to be the case.

While the newer consoles have you install and update, you still KNOW they will work on the console. You dont have that guarantee with PCs. Plus DRM is a LOT worse on PC. And with consoles, when you physically buy a game, you can return it any time you want. With PC games, even if you bought the disc, you cant return it. So you cant like rent a game for PC and return it if you find you dont like it. I might be a PC gamer if more games had "limited trials" which allowed you to test the game to see how it plays and see if it works on your PC BEFORE you buy it.

disc games still exist? And a lot of console games have codes to stop disk trading and selling. Steam also does demos.Drm Is exactly the same. Digital download never will 100% replace discs. I still buy pc games in store for the disk. I preorded gta 5 from gamers hideout.:P

Have you guys heard of https://www.g2a.com/ ?

They sell steam codes for extremely discounted prices. I bought Metro: Last Light for $8. It's really legit, my brother buys from it all the time. I was kind of skeptical, but I gave it a try.

G2A Is morally questionable and Not to be trusted. They get Games for less, as the keys are being sold for less In ledcs! A lot of the keys are also fake! Don't just G2A or use it. It's taking the keys dedicated for the poorer people and It's being resold for profit!

I actually wasn't thinking about Doom at all. Weird.

Mostly it was

STAR WARS DARK FORCES

Oh my god this video game. Was also wanting Ultima Underworld, Ultima 4, Might & Magic, Daggerfall, Incredible Machine, maybe some Humongous Entertainment stuff for the lulz, and Wolfenstein 3D.

I actually have a computer store ~45 minutes from my house. They had Commodore 64s for like, ten bucks. Pretty sure making a DOS machine wouldn't be hard. And Dreamcasts for 30, which is the best price I've seen. I'm going to like that place a lot.
