ShintX 180 October 15, 2014 Share October 15, 2014 (edited) Like i remember never reading books, except for "Eragon", but was unaffected by it simply because i didn't put myself much into it. But then i started reading "The Bible" and later other literature and felt much more afraid, lazy and somehow arrogant. I mean information is good and all. But if one uses too much time on it, then one may have little time for friends, and other fun stuff, because one is living in the world of books and not in reality. I don't know if you agree but thats how i felt. When i was playing games i atleast felt like it wasn't in the way of visiting friends or become inspired to do fun and cool things for other people. While reading books made me feel more or less in a Nirvana state. Maybe that was just me though ^^ Edited October 15, 2014 by ShintX
Washougal_Otaku 1,020 October 15, 2014 Share October 15, 2014 ...perhaps if one were to only read things that were "scary" I could see the fear thing making sense. As for being lazy, that would only be true if that were ALL that someone did. 1 :comeatus: Gimme some time to come up with something new, okay? MUCH LOVES!!! Shift 4,272 October 15, 2014 Share October 15, 2014 (edited) No. I love, love reading books, don't know how I'd live without it, and though i'm fairly lazy I'm not really afraid of trivial things. Only the things that actually matter. Knowledge is power, and books are knowledge, thus books are power. I've read the Bible, and while it was a nice read, I believe it is a work of fiction with grains of truth more than anything else. I particularly liked the Revelations chapter. It's not my favorite book by far, and to be honest it was fairly average compared to superior reads such as War & Peace and even Lord of the Rings. SparklingSquirrels 21,341 October 15, 2014 Share October 15, 2014 (edited) Hmm well I guess it could depend on the particular books you read. I've never had an experience like that, myself. I don't think that books can make you lazy unless that's all you do, so you should be just fine if you set a certain amount of time for reading books each day/week/whatever, and spend the other time doing other things. I think reading is great and you can really learn a lot of new things from it. Edited October 15, 2014 by SparklingSwirls ֍֎֍֎
Starshine 16,333 October 15, 2014 Share October 15, 2014 Um what. This is some convoluted logic there If you're talking like how reading books caused Twilight Sparkle to act like the way she was at the very first episode, it's not the books, it's more the exclusion of herself from the society that made her that way. I don't believe reading books alone can make anyone be anything like you described there.
Hashi 323 October 15, 2014 Share October 15, 2014 Yes Although that may be just me because I kinda... push the reading limit 1-3 books a day is a general average for me (these are school days xD) But I do have a rather large vocabulary, even though I still cant spell Plus I know things Although I have noticed within myself for the last few years a lack of motivation for anything but reading and I have no idea what to do about it xD But I manage Reading is good, just don't go over the top arrogance is good when warranted, but don't make a fool of thyself Less time for friends? Yes Maybe take time reading the books, try not to push out friends, I accidentally did and now I only have 2 xD btw ERAGON IS THE BEST SERIES IN THE WORLD!!!!! shionshy 47 October 15, 2014 Share October 15, 2014 I don't think you can become lazy reading books. You can be an active person, and read too. ...well, I am a lazy person, and I love reading. But anyway.
ShintX 180 October 15, 2014 Author Share October 15, 2014 (edited) Eragon is like the type of books i can shut on and off. In the same way with games like Crash Bandicoot 3 if i had to compare. So if someone asked, "Hey wanna watch a movie or play football" then i'd say. Yep, i'll be right there Thanks for all the info you bronies gave me, i am sure its only due to my experience with this type of stuff, that i i have been putting myself into, and not reading all the cool stuff, but the mind washing stuff that made my mind just into a calm unrealistic nirvana of reading. Just the way of thinking, kinda like a "Self brainwashing by getting all into the calm stuff", just thinking about it makes me remember, it aches by thinking about it Instead of reading something thats really cool and awesome, which i should've done alongside with other fun stuff i like to do. I loved the first book of Eragon, never read the 2nd one but it has a really interesting and exiting story. Just love the way it is written, makes it really fun to read and cool to pace through the paces and see what happens next. Guest October 15, 2014 Share October 15, 2014 I only read books to get a better and more sophisticated vocabulary ("smarter, longer and wiser" words) so I can use them in essays/assignments = getting better grades. Ye-ye, son.
Lucky Star 972 October 15, 2014 Share October 15, 2014 the only time I've really felt afraid was when I read the bible, I mean. people are really okay with worshiping a god like this? though I get kinda get scared when I read Stephen king. I read a lot and yeah I feel somewhat lazy, but no more than when I play video games or watch TV. *OC Lucky Star*
Cherry Bomb 51 October 15, 2014 Share October 15, 2014 Not quite sure how a book can make someone lazy. I am a very avid reader and I am anything but lazy. Though I suppose It can really depend on genre of the book and the one whom is reading said book.
Adash 193 October 15, 2014 Share October 15, 2014 Here's what I say: Reading a lot requires sitting for extensive periods of time, so you may be a little physically lazy, BUT reading keeps the mind active and evolving new ideas. I like to keep my mind active more than my body (my metabolism being so damn high makes up for that). Sig made by Aeron Quillson.

The Crimson Cross 7,532 October 16, 2014 Share October 16, 2014 Personally, I don't see how reading books is any different to watching movies or television. Too much of one thing can be bad, though a book still stimulates the mind. Depending on how it works for you, it might be a good idea to read in moderation. Now with more added tea leaves! Dewdlz 938 November 6, 2014 Share November 6, 2014 Not really in my opinion. I read fan-fics rather than books. I seem to want to read more when it's digital. It's opened up the way I think and how I act and improvise. Like RP'ing, most things I would say when RP'ing comes from fan-fics I've read. I kind of combine all knowledge I've gained from all of it, making one big story. https://widekmusic.bandcamp.com/album/journey-to-the-stars ^Space-djent music for Luna. Invincible 2,091 November 8, 2014 Share November 8, 2014 (edited) Reading is a favorite pastime of mine, and never have it made me lazy or afraid. I'm an introvert, but i can be very outgoing too. Books shouldn't exist to hold you back, they are catalysts of human knowledge and imagination. Discordian 6,015 November 8, 2014 Share November 8, 2014 Not any more than any other choice of entertainment. It also depends on how you define lazy because a lot of people will go to great lengths to enjoy their favorite pastime which can keep them quite active. If you mean it in the sense that it gets in the way of doing chores or something well...I dunno if I'd call that lazy so much as avoiding responsibilities.
