Hahahahaha what?? No seriously, what?

could you imagine cadance going actually let's not give the magic to twilight. I just imagined that Celestia's word is law. I certainly wouldn't like to argue with her :P i know my wording sucked there :S

I don't see how it would make any sense if Cadence was a disagreeable pony. She's the physical embodiment of love, and we see right off the bat that the literal entire point of her princess-hood is to diffuse disagreements and unkindness with the power of love. We see exactly how she uses her bubbly agreeable nature by comparing her to her foil, Queen Chrysalis. Where Chrysalis hated everything that the other ponies were nice enough to do for her, Cadence loved it if for no other reason than that it came from a place of love. She appreciates others and is happy to simply share her love for them.

That's more or less what I'm saying, yeah.

But I mean it's abnormal, right? You wouldn't call Pinkie or Fluttershy "disagreeable", and yet they've been central players in numerous conflicts. Does being the alicorn of love make it impossible to take part in a conflict, or disagree with friends?

Well, I guess first you'd consider that Pinkie and Flutters have had a whole lot more screen time, while Cadence has just been in... a half dozen episodes, I think? Maybe I'll look that up later...

And I don't think it's impossible. I mean, Cadence did take part in one conflict, the one with Queen Chrysalis, but of course it's hard not to disagree with an outright villain who's been brainwashing your soulmate. Now that would be abnormal

But, she has so mastered the magic of love that it turned her into an alicorn, so she does have a leg up on the other characters mentioned. I think much of her personality may have been borrowed from what the Christian bible has to say on love. Ahem *google searches the passage*

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Sounds sue-ish doesn't it? But, if that's what it means to embody love, then maybe she's just supposed to be one of those Superman characters, the sort that gives us something to aspire to without trying too hard to be realistic, like Princess Celestia. That's just my theory anyways

PS - I'm quoting bible verses tonight?   Well, weird ending to a weird day I guess... (I feel oddly compelled to declare my non-affiliation with the bible now. It's that I think they borrowed from a source that a lot of artists have borrowed from over the years, not that they're trying to be religious or anything. Disclaimer disclaimer)

@@Dulset Tarn,

... so not only are you criticizing Celestia, you're now criticizing Cadance? More in both threads you spoke ill of Twilight, leaves me to wonder what your feelings Luna is. I'm starting to think you're just seeking to hate on the royally in MLP:FiM, alicorns, or the princesses in general. Sheesh

I never criticized Celestia, she's the best. Well, back when she was relevant rather than a mindless figurehead, that is.

...Well damn, I guess I am criticizing her. But to be fair it's not the whole royal family, it's the entire show top to bottom. Every character, song, and episode since season 3. Luna was great up until the season 4 premiere assassinated her character.

@@Dulset Tarn,

Ah well that explains a lot, especially for why we have butted heads so much and come in conflict one with the other. I have felt the show has manages to stay good and fairly well written even up to this point, especially when compared to most of the crap animated shows the US puts out (such as Cartoon Network).

My only major complaints are with the writers not the characters or show itself. More particularly that of Discord's reform. I am really, really not a fan of this idea. I feel everything I loved about this character has been lost, that instead I have disappointing, annoying. and weak character compared to what Discord was in Return of Harmony. Then we have the frustrating fact that the writers still wont given much if any attention to Celestia and Luna... which is why I look to the books and comics for additional characterization involving these characters, and how the writers haven't built much on Twilight since she become a princess.

------------------------------

Despite this Twilight Sparkle is still my favorite character out of the Mane Six, heck out of all the show, followed by Rarity. I still consider, at least I think I still do, Luna as my favorite of the Royal Sisters yet I find myself defending and protecting Celestia far more often. Heck I play Celestia here on MLP Forums and one of my characters is a loyal guard of the Princess of the Sun, so that should tell you something about my thoughts for her.

Just because we don't see her disagree, doesn't mean she can't. We've only seen her in a handful of episodes.

Alot of the things you mentioned in the first post aren't really things that would spark strong disagreement anyway. Maybe she likes Pinkies music. Maybe shes a history buff like Twilight (the Starswirl event was the whole reason they were seeing each other in the first place). We don't know that much about her so it isn't a stretch to think that she actually is into those things.

As for Discord, I saw that more as a, "Nya Nya, we had fun anyway" kind of thing.

P.S. Cadence > Celestia

Ooh, a Celestia player? Tell me, how powerful do you typically portray her as? :)

I actually play Celestia officially in the Equestria Empires section, the 'canon' roleplay section. On how powerful I have played her... I haven't really had the chance to show off her power or really even her magic apart from levitating objects. Oh, and recently changing her appearance so she and Luna can have a night of fun in Canterlot without anypony recognizing them.

I will say this, as she is over a 1000 years old and has ruled for more then this amount of time... I do see her as perhaps being more magically powerful except for her sister and Starswirl the Bearded, putting aside Discord as he is a chaotic reality warper. Also Queen Chrysalis and Tirek, as they had situational advantages. King Sombra, not sure but I will say no as she defeated that dark tyrant with the help of her sister Luna (with or without the EoH). The important thing is I found it doubtful any OC would be able to defeat her when it comes to magical power.

Also, because of her great age and wisdom I also play her as being intuitive of her subjects and others. Often guessing or inferring their intentions and thoughts without them actually saying anything, the reading of body langauges.

A couple of people have mentioned the music at the wedding.  False Cadence told Pinkie it was perfect -for 6 year olds (or something to that effect) & P took it to be a compliment.  At the wedding, they were dancing what looked like The Pony Polka (or close enough).

But, to me, C has always been like Fluttershy only less apologetic.  Several people have made the point that, as Goddess of love, she probably finds it difficult to disagree too openly w people, especially those she feels close to.  Besides, maybe she can feel emotions & she gets her enjoyment from feeling how much YOU like whatever.  This would make Changelings her evil twin?!

Ah, makes sense yeah.

I just wanted to bring up the interesting fact that, despite numerous implications, we don't actually have a single canonical, unambiguous demonstration of Celestia being very powerful. A lot of roleplayers will have her doing the most completely overpowered things, but it's entirely possible in canon (though very unlikely) that she's hardly more powerful than a couple normal unicorns. Luna on the other hand actually has demonstrated great power, and I personally think it would not have been too difficult for Twilight to just incapacitate Chrysalis on her own.

If you wanna chat about it, PM me ;)

Haha, now that you mention it: she does remind me of tofu a bit (you know, the food famous for taking on the "flavor" of what ever is around it). She is kinda' bland, but I don't really mind her.

You know, this kind of reminds me of a theory I had at one time.  It doesn't hold up, it's just a silly joke, but I had this funny theory that if you watch all six Star Wars movies, you can theorize that Obi Wan is not actually a Jedi, and cannot use the force.  He's faking, and just follows the opinions of other Jedi.  There's a lot of funny examples you can find, but like I said, just a joke, doesn't hold up, and not what I really think.  Obi Wan is best Jedi.  (So don't start debating me, for the love of Celestia!)

Anyway, Cadence is a bit shallow, and underdeveloped, for sure, but imo, this is only because she hasn't gotten enough screen time.  The writers simply haven't developed her much.  We need a Cadence spotlight that shows some dynamic sides to her.  She's got a lot of potential.

I agree, she's pretty much underdeveloped as a princess character. It's kinda like, "Here's a princess, blah blah blah!" And that's probably how she'll stay (less developed), unfortunately.
