Sunny looked around at the over the top and cruel training. But she knew she couldn't do anything about it. Shegave a light sigh before talking to the officer She fave a respectful salute. Though it looked odd cause she was still in her dress. "Hello. My name is Sunny. I'm a flying messenger from the nation of Quintica. I'm on a tour of the city and I was wondering what your military training is like. I myself am part of a platoon of flying messengers, which is part of a city sized militia. I was also wondering if I would be able to spar with so someone."

"Definitely" he turned to a line of marching soldiers.

"Halt!"

The reginent stopped.

"Right face!"

The stallions turned and faced the officer who inspected them.

"Number 78 advance"

A pony stepped out of the line, he was slightly taller than the other soldiers. He was brown and had a short, black mane."

 

"In what profecience would you like to spar, m'am?"

"Hoof to hoof. You can use a weapon if you like. Or five at once. I don't mind either way." She shrugged. She then took off her dress and tossed it in the carriage . She was still wearing her shirt underneath. She then walked into the sparing ring. "The fighting style I was trained in is good against many enemies or some with weapons." She then stood on her hind legs and got in a stance. Which made the rings on her arms jingle. Her legs were bent, her left foreleg was pointing out and up while the other is is above her head and pointing where her other arm is.

 

"This style is called Hung Gar, or tiger crane style. My family has been practicing it for many years. Sure it's not like a normal military martial art, but it is not to be underestimated. Since we're just mainly a militia, we all use our own kind of fighting. Which is kind of an advantage because you wont be expecting a different kind of fighting every time."

"Very well" he turned back to the line "23, 43, 67 and 85 present!"

 

The four soldiers stepped out of line.

 

"Remove bayonets!"

The soldiers took off the bayonets and attached them to the ir belts.

 

"Nw get in there!"

"But sir, shes a mare..." a soldier commented

"Follow orders! After this is done... give me 20 laps!"

"Yes sir"

 

The five soldiers from a small line and lower their unloaded rifles (They are not gonna fire). They slowly advance towards Sunny.

Sunny smirked. "Don't hold back boys. I may be a mare but I've kicked my shear of tail." Not bothering to wait for the first one to charges she charged at the first soldier. She got right up to him, she slammed her right arm into his chest and punched his gut really hard. Knocking him back and sending him to the ground. For the next one she grabbed his rifle and flipped backwards, kicking him twice under the chin. Also knocking him back.

 

She kept the rifle and twirled it around her body and arms like a fighting staff. She ended her demonstration by pointing at the last three soldiers with the but of the rifle. "This style can also work well with weapons."

The two soldiers stood up.... they didnt know what to do as it was against their principles to hurt a mare. They were also surprised of a fighting mare. Even so, the soldiers were able to take a few good hits due to their tough training. They remade the line, now staying tightly together and approaced cautiouslyy and slowly... putting a lot of weight on every step. As they approached, two of the soldiers held their rifles defensively while the others were meant to hit. They started pounding and then retreating behind the defensive guys. They didnt hit hard tho, as they still had their gentleman principles in mind.

Sunny took one of the hits, that got her on the cheek, but block the other.  This was the first time she's fought against full time soldiers. It was pretty intimidating. Most of the time when she fought against five they each cam at her at once or one at a time. Never in formation.  This was gonna be tricky.

 

She kept moving so they wouldn't catch her off guard. She kept moving the rifle so to get use to the feel of it. It was a little off balance but it'll help giver her reach.  Not bothering to wait for the next attack she pulled  back the rifle and then pushed it forward into the center the defensive soldier, hitting him in the throat. She quickly pulled it back and thrust it again but into his nose.  Then she jumped to the side and swung the rifle into another soldier, hitting his neck. She put a good bit of force into it but not enough to kill him.

 

She then jumped back again to waited for them to attack.

The two soldiers on the sde quickly turned defensive parring any other blocks while the other helped his companions back onto their feet. The second soldier that was hit in the throat had a really hard time breathing but drank some water to clear his throught. back on their feet the soldiers split into two, a group of two and a group of three. The two assaulted by hitting with the front of the bayonets while the other three advanced from behind, hitting Sunny's rifle and causing her to drop it. The soldier recovered his rifle and the stepped back, making a circle around Sunny, rifles lowered. They then all charged simultanously.

@@Gloomfury, "Well one must learn to brew beverages that you can't grow sick of when you'll have nothing else for months at a time. And don't worry, I'll have your things placed safely n my own personal locker." He took a sip of his own. "Stories would make sense. We don't like to share our technological advances with other's for fear they'll use it against us. At the same we like to show off that we're technologically advanced for intimidation purposes. Depending on who has more power in the realm of security, or morale at any specific time determines the likely hood of seeing one."

 As they charged at her, Sunny quickly took the first ring on her left and right one and switched them. When she did the other rings formed together into a metal sleeve of sorts. She then used them to slam away two of the bayonets so she could pull into the soldiers to dodge the others attack. When she got close to them she did a powerful blows to their chests, with enough power to knock them back quite a bit.

 

When the others came she did long slamming strikes, using the ring sleeves to hit the rifles away so she could land a double hoof power blow to one of the soldiers she didn't hit.  For the last two she dodge their attack by moving her body but only taking a few steps.  For her last attack she step forward with each punch she threw, even though they dodge each one.  When she was close she leaned forward and did a hard sweeping with with both arms , hitting one of then in the chest,  The then pivoted her leg and spun around throwing a single hard punch to his face while the other slammed down his rifle. When he was down she stepped back and got back in her stance waited to see if they wanted another go.

Flits nods. "Makes since." He drank a little more. "We're mostly finding better use of steam and magic power. We ain't really focused on tools for war. Though that doesn't make us push overs." He laughed. "I was taught to fight like worrier from my clans homeland by my granddad.  Armed from the hooves to the teeth." He chuckled.  "But anyway, would ya mind showing me around? Since ya being so kind to give me a ride I was think I can help you out so I wont be a freeloader. I know how to do pretty much everything. Tie sails, navigate, cook, clean quick patch jobs." He shrugged. "I also play a mean set of bagpipes." He grinned.

The soldiers batered and confused as they were stood up again to prepare another asault but were interupted.

"Thats enough, at ease!" the officer exclaimed and the soldiers left the ring.

"43, you owe me 20 laps now!" 

The soldier, who was barely breathing, saluted and started running. The officer turned to the stallion standing besides him,

"Lietuenant, your sword..." He took the sword and threw it at Sunnys feet, he then got in the ring. He stood up on his hind hoofs, and drew his sword. He placed his left hoof on his hip and pointed the sword as Sunny.

"Lets see you..."

"Yes, I do have a few questions myself," the captain replied. "One thing I would like to know about is your government. How is it run? I mean ours is centered around the Supreme Leader, but I doubt that all other countries run the same of mine. And how is it to live in your country?" captain asked. He was curious to discover how other ponies live in other parts of this mysterious world.

"Our country is run by his highness, King Ludwig II, he is advised by leading generals in the army." the captain said with pride in his voice. "We got rid of poverty 30 years ago and every citizen is ensured a house, food and supplies by the goverment. Ahhh.... factories darken the blue skies and ports crowd the seas. And i must say... not trying to offend the hospitality... but our trains and  buildings are in far better shape."

"Very well. We'll note for the emperor." Royal Guard said and told other Royal Guard to go tell Emperor that diplomatics are requesting enterance... With real honor.

 

Later: Messagner Royal Guard returned to the gates and told the gate Royal Guard Emperor's answer. He nobbed and turned back to the diplomatics.

 

"The Emperor has agreed to yours visit. He has invited you to visit his castle. Gates will open. Welcome to the Crystal Lands."

 

Royal Guard greeted and then, the big but not "so" big crystal gate doors begun move away from themselves, one inside the left head and other right head. Then: There was a free road to their castle and they could see a lot of busy ponies around, doing their things. Most are smiths and food makers.

 

Meanwhile at the Castle:

 

Blue Crystal was staring out from the window, as the gates opened.

 

"First visitor for so long time... I am glad to see, that we are not alone." he thought and then turned towards 2 of his body guards.

 

"Go to make preporations, we shall meet these visitors with honor. Make haste." Blue Crystal commanded. The body guards bowed and then left to tell others to create preporations quickly.

The magi smiled "I am honored by your warm greeting, and your invitation. My convoy and I will head directly to you're emperor's castle." Magi Silver Gleam then signaled the leaders of the convoy, and they begin to carefully drive their wagons through the large crystal gates.

"Ah yes of course. I'm sure the Supreme Leader will discuss such things with you all, please please, come this way. We have prepared a suite for you in our grandest tavern while you wait for our glorious leader," Silvermane said to the diplomats as he ushered them off. 

 

As they exited the train station, the sites and sounds of the upper class quarter greeted them as high class ponies trotted around. In the distance a fortress with high walls came into view and a darkness seemed to be emanating from it. "Right this way, the tavern is close to the Great Leader so you won't have much distance to cover to see him."

The diplomat carefully looked around the city, closely examining his surroundings. Something... didn't seem quite right about the city, but the diplomat couldn't quite put his hoof on just what was off. None of this showed on the diplomat's face, of course. He still had a polite smile on his face, masking his true emotions. "Thank you for your hospitality. I eagerly await my meeting with your glorious leader."

Suddenly a messenger flew  into the room and handed the queen a note she read it "Hmm...Im sorry to say but it looks like somepony decided to declare war on us, you will be escorted you back to your ship" the dancers stopped and scattered, the messenger darted out and flew throughout the city, suddenly a large of swarm of pegasi soldiers were flying over the city, the port balistias were manned, the manticores were mounted by riders, citizens locked themselves in their homes, the rich nobles did the same, all the navy ships filled the port, the treasure fleet was sent down river for protection.  The queen donned battle armor and got on her own manticore and stepped out of the throne room to the outside courtyard, looking towards the sea

"Well I can't show you around below the main deck due to the nature of this vessel, and we don't have to do most of the regular duties of a normal ship since we don't have sails but I guess you can help keep the engine going for a while if you want or later on do kitchen duty. It's pretty simple. We just cook a bunch of hotcakes and open up a large can of applesauce. There isn't much to do other than that since we'll be in the capital a little ways into the night. How did you come by an instrument made from animal hide?" The captain asked?

 

Meanwhile the Nightingale was on it's way and would arrive about the same time.

The fleet of warships and airships sailed (and flew) in the giant river, spuccessfully blocking any transportation between the two sides. They didnt fire any cannon or rifle, concealing their presence in order to fool the enemy into thinking they were 'unarmed'. The ship leading the blockade was 106-gun SMS Piercer, captained by vice-admiral Steelshot. HIs seargent approached, 

"Sir, they seem to be preapring for a defensive... with ballistas and arrows..."

"Ballistas? Those bolts will never go through our ships armour plating.

 

Meanwhile on a un-defended beach, the transport ships landed the troops. 2520 infantrymen, 1600 cavalry, 6 cannon batteries (16 cannons per battery) and 2 armoured batteries. Totalling about 5100 ponies. They were wearing black coats, white pants and tall black shakos. The white 'belts' on their chest made an "X" and they were all armed with Ponssias modern breech-loading rifle. They also wore blue goggles to protect them from possible sandstroms. Leading them was colonel Brickwall, who had spent a lot of time fighting savage primitives in Ponssia's colonies.

"Captain, we set camp on that hill" he ordered his captain, pointing towads a hill 200m away. Trumpets rung through the ranks and the army marched in columns towards the hill where they would set up their tents.

As the large warships approached the port capital city, they got stuck on the bottom of the harbor

 

a loud horn blared

 

a swarm of pegasi soldiers flew up to one of the airships and surrounded it and flew around it, an other swarm flew to the stuck warships to board them

 

A pegasi in the swarm around the airship yelled "TURN BACK IMMEDIATELY! OR DIE!"

 

A few pegasi landed on top of the airships balloons

 Sunny looked at the sword. She bent down and picked it up. Looks like she made an impression. She could tell by the stallions stance that he was well trained and know out to use the sword well. She unsheathed the sword and tossed the sheath. She spun the sword around a little to get a feel for it. She was use to swords with more of a curve, but she could get the hang of this one.

 

She then put her hooves together and gave the officer a respectful bow. Then she got in her stance. Next she took a step forward and swung the sword around her head and then made a move to his his side.

"Anyway I can help. I was taught to always pay a kindness back. And you got'ta eat more then that. I would think that they would give ya enough food to make at least a few decent meals. But guess most of the money is going into the ship but not into its crew." He shrugged.

The captain of the airship looked above.

"Get everyone below deck, let the others get them!"

The crew rushed underneath as 3 other airships slowly surrounded it. The (other captain) started giving out orders.

"Mister Smith get your gun crew on position, canister shot! Mr Adams get your marines in position! Mr Jones, full steam ahead!"

Marines took position on the deck pointing their rifles (Which would look as sticks to non-advanced guys). The gunmaster started giving orders.

"Cast off the tackles and breechings! Seize the breeching! Unstop the touch-hole! Ram home wad and cartridge! Shoot the gun-wad! Run out the gun! Lay down the hoofspikes! Take aims! FIRE!"

The cannons were aimed little above the baloon so the shots would only hit the ponies on top of the baloon.

The army took position on the hill and set up camp, setting up tents.

The officer jumped back and thrusted forward, before retreating again. His fighting style was more like a dance by attacking and elegantly retreating and parring when the enemy thrusted.

The swarm around the airship was hit with casualties and pegasi started falling, the swarm rushed the airship, a few managing to get aboard, others firing vollies of  arrows on the deck of airship trying to hit the soldiers with the sticks of death, a few pegasi recognized the rifles after seeing the crate of rifles offered from pegasiona, since the enemy soldiers had no real armor, the Cidonian troops that made it onto the deck of the ship were able to easily dispatch the riflemen with their swords

 

The ballistas began firing at the airships, the bolts were lit on fire before being launched at them, the bolts flew through the air and struck the under side of the airships piercing their wooden hulls

 

The swarm approached the stuck warship and descended on it as it wasnt firing

One ariship was quickly engoulphed by flames and plummeted towards the ground, smashing into civilian houses below. The other airships slowly moved away from the city in order to stop civilian casulaties (Honor of war). The crew of the Piercer were highly skilled, unlike the recruits manning the un-trusted airships. They immidiately started firing by rank upwards. The guncrew on the upper deck started firing towards the swarm as well. Tightly packed groups such as that would get butchwered by canister.(its like a shotgun). After a volley in the approaching swarm, they retreated below deck too, in order to prepare an amush.

Blue Crystal was staring still out from the window as cargo wagon was coming inside of the crystal gates. He then look at his door, he was thinking there was someone but there wasn't.

 

"Hm... I have strange feelings..." he thought and then stares again towards the gates and wagon.

 

"What they may bring with their cargo?... I hope its nothing dangerous. But its best to be always prepared... Eventhough I will not wish war."

The balistas continues firing at the airships, once they were over the harbor, the siege barge started firing its own balista at them 

 

The swarm followed the airships, still attacking the crews with arrows and attempted boards, some even started attacking the sails with their swords

 

The swarm on the Piercer regrouped after the canister shot and regrouped on the deck of the ship when the enemy crew descended below

 

Some of the ground forces began to do some clean up after the first airship fell on the city, others started making barricades out of whatever was avalible

Due to the narrow river, the fleet has decided to do a tactical retreat, b]pulling back oin the sea. The pierce has been tugged out of harms way. The seige barge, however was surrounded by three 74-gun third rates, that relentlessly fired broadsides of explosive shells, with the intention of ligthing it on fore, once out of the shallow river, the fleet formed a line facing the Cidonian coast.

As the army set up camp, they spotted a farm complex in the distance. It looked poor and Earth ponies there seemed poor and struggling to make a living. Even though they were technically part of an enemy country, the commander knew how imprtant it was to have support in the enemy population as well. If they managed to get them on their side, they will likely spread the word, therefore gathering supporters. If they could get support in the population, maybe they could get them to pressure the goverment into making peace, on Ponssian trerms.

"Lieutenant! Take a baggage train of supplies and aid those poor farmers!"

"Yes Sir! Are you sure... we might need these for our own troops"

"Nonsense! DO we have anyone originating from a farming family here?" two soldiers lift their hoofs

"You two, go with the lieutenant and show them farmers our more modern techniques to grow crops. We need to be on good terms with the civilian populace."

The baggage train started moving towards the farm, guarded by 10 soldiers.
