The Kaiser soon arrived back to Abendstern's capital. He called for a meeting with his generals and advisors. They decided that the best course of action to deal with this possible threat and their expansion was to amp up their military by enlisting more soldiers, increasing their arsenal, and gathering the creative minds of the nation and those recently brought under its rule, to construct new weapons for the military's use. A convention for them would be held in the dominion and any pony wanting to contribute would be taken there after having recieved a background check and submitting their design. They could be escorted to one of the Governments facilities where they would be provided the materials and tools needed to make a prototype for a demonstration. Flyers and posters were produced, and sent to areas throughout Abendstern, and the Dominion. The governmemt itself, gave the order for their scientist to look into designs for a new airship, the ultimate armor, and an improved means of delivering loads of cargo from the air in smaller quantities and precisely. Posters had also been set in place, asking for more ponies to enlist, which was expected to happen as winter drew on, and the means to make more money during a time that meant more had to be spent. Orders were being filled out for materials and production to arm them, and folllw through with trade agreements.

The submersible was at last ready....A marvel of engineering... Perhaps one of the most expensive an modern machines out there. Due to its non-millitaryu role it was able to bear quality that a millitarty vechicle would never encounter. The 70m long, 8m wide, double-hulled machine was massive, split into water-tight compartments, with an area of 1011 m2, a displacement of 1500m3 and weighing 1520 tonnes, it still managed to reach the astonishing speed of 50knots. Electricity provided by sodium/mercury batteries (with the sodium provided by extraction from seawater) is the craft's primary power source for propulsion and other services. It uses floodable tanks in order to adjust buoyancy and so control its depth. The pumps that evacuate these tanks of water are so powerful that they produce large jets of water when the vessel emerges rapidly from the surface of the water, resembling the jet of a whale. In order to dive, the machine  uses a technique called "hydroplaning", in which the vessel dives down at a steep angle. It supports a crew that gathers and farms food from the sea. The vessel includes a galley for preparing these foods, which includes a machine that makes drinking water from seawater through distillation. Unable to refresh its air supply, it is designed to do it by surfacing and exchanging stale air for fresh, much like a whale. Its capable of extended voyages without refuelling or otherwise restocking supplies. Its maximum dive time is around five days. Much of the ship is decorated to standards of luxury that are unequalled in a seagoing vessel of the time such as a  lavish dining room, a library and a crew leisure area. Flaps could be opened to reveal entire walls made of thicd by the machines countless light bulbs.k glass to allow the crew to see the enviroment and a small, separable capsule could be used for seabed exploration. Pressuried diving suits, connected to the sub via a hose meant scienists could easily leave the vessel. The ship would easily be visible underwater due to the immense amount of light emitteFrom her attacks on ships, it uses a ramming prow to puncture target vessels below the waterline causing severe and often unrepairable damage. The vessel, carrying little over 80 scientists, mechanics and sailors was now ready for launch and begin its mission, the exploration of the underwater world.

If I just wanted access to something then I would have asked. Maybe demanded depending who I'm dealing with. Those dominions didn't deserve my manners." She took a long drink. "But I just took over half of their country, and I did so in the defence of pegasus everywhere! I've got refugees who fled to me so they could live a proper life. No pony questions my reasons. I've got nothing to answer for!" She took another long drink before placing a forearm on the table to lean her head on. She smirked. " You know, If they thought a few diplomats could takeout one of their crew, and they felt the need to show what they can do and keep on talking about how great they are, I'd question whether they've got any real soldiers." She leaned in grinning. "I bet that king is scared of you to the point he's cowering on his little throne."

 

In Abendstern, the order had been given to produce

-500 Mountain Guns

-400 Howitzers

-4 New Submarines

-2 Large Airships

-12 Small Airships

-48 Hot Air Balloons

-200 Armored Quadcycles

-50 Quadcycles equiped with a Mountain Gun

-25 Ships of the line

 

Orders were also made to produce 250 tons of concrete along with steel support beams to go with them for the base in Cidonia. The new ships would be used to deliver the suplies and workers to the site to begin construction. 500 western cannons were also being produced, and they along with 25,000 muskets and 25,000 long rifles were being sent to Pegasonia so that they could be smuggled.

 

Back in the capital and the Abendstern HQ of the Dominion, several responses to the developement of new weapons had been recieved and work had already begun on a few prototypes. The scientist decided to focus on the new airship design and the improved means of delivering smaller loads from the air which one design of the airship would be based around, since some were going to be sent on the first shipment to Cidonia to investigate for resources. They would also be given the task of finding materials for the new armor to be made up of. The scientist back home would be sit into two teams for each project, so they would end up with two designs that they could use.

"I might not be a technician so i dont have the proper information but... those ovens power the steam engines... which move those pumps... which do some more whizzle whizzle and create power!" he finishes pointing to the lightning tower,"Then, this power is transmitted throughout the entire city. You will be able to see its effects at night as it lights up the streets, shops and houses."

The diplomats simply stared blankly at the pony, not understanding even a single part of his explanation.

"Ha! with just my primitive weaponry, I took out one of their airships!, and killed countless others aboard those things with little opposition, they would have cleared the deck of one of their warships, but enemy reinforcements out numbered my troops stuck on the ships deck, but from what ive heard, they took a lot with them." she took a drink "Those damn warships, next time I see the kaiser, or a representative of Abenstern, Ill ask if they have weapons that can take out ships of that size" she took another drink "Oh but let me tell you about their king, hes weak! hes some big unicorn who acts all important, but i could tell hes probably never seen combat, much less killed a pony, Ive killed 5! in my line of work assassans are a constant threat, but I always win, I once killed one with his own knife after he stabbed me in the eye! If i could I would of just stabbed that king in his neck.  It was a little funny to see a pony who probably has never left his palace in his whole life!"

As the two queens talked, a massive Ponssian ship carrying a huge metal structure sailed in the distance, leaving a trail of black smoke behind it.

The whole capital was in excitement. Ponies on the streets flying the Ponssian flag from their window while large crowds gathered to celebrate. The Kingdom of Ponssia was over, following the vast wesern conquest, the Ponssian Empire was proclaimed. Hundreds of thousands gathered arounf the main Cathedral as his majesty, King Ludwig the First was now crowned Emperor. The streets were full of blessings and nationalist screams, the anthem was played far and wide as the emperor, riding in his carriage waved at his subjects. Ponies desperately tried to touch him but were held back by the line of Royal guards. Ponssia was now at its highest, it had never reached to cover such great a landmass, the time of the Empire had begun.

"Hmm... That sounds fair and good deal to me and our nation ponies. If you can: Try to train some Earth ponies as well to sailors, just in case so they wouldn't feel to be discriminated. We are peaceful and equal small land, so we want to be as equal as possible to each other. But for example flying and with magic though... I am sure we can make exception, since they are mostly natural skills which possibly cannot be aquired any other way, unless being born as either one."

If you had the time to properly gather all of your forces, I'm sure that they would have been scurrying back home with their tails between their legs. They don't even compare on natural abilities alone. Imagine your soldiers on equal footing with theirs in weaponry!" She stood up, supporting herself by placing her front hooves on the table but waved one up into the air as she spoke, and slammed it down on the table, grinding it in for emphasis. "You could soar above them, and defeat them beyond comprehension! Their loss would be so great, that they couldn't even consider themselves of being soldiers. Not that they're worthy of being them in the first place. Unicorns if allowed, at least have a chance with their magic. Without it, they are nothing but earth ponies with stumps protruding from their empty skulls." Her hooves began to tremble and she sat back down before vomiting into a bag beside her that contained some empty whine bottles. She recovered only to drink more wine. "I myself have personally killed next to twenty or thirty ponies now. It was thirteen before I invaded the Dominion, but I lost count when I came under a counter attack. It's hard to count and confirm kills in a flying fury that becomes a bloodbath. We repelled them easily enough but still, it was a close call to me. If I hadn't jumped right before I came into contact with that blade I might have had a serious injury. I don't expect all rulers to lead from the front lines or to have at least killed a few ponies themselves, but you need to earn your place as the highest authority in the land. You and I have obviously done that, but if that king has no experience in the real world, then he shouldn't be sitting above anypony."

 

In Abendstern, it was decided that the Dominions would share a part in the nation's defense and that more griffons should partake in it as well. This would also bring them and the Griffon Kingdom closer if griffons were given a larger role. Griffons were already allowed to enlist, but this new unit would focus on Griffons primarily, teaching them to use their advantages in battle along with the basics. Unicorns from the Dominion would also recieve their own Unit, and would be trained in modern magical arts by some of the best Abendstern had to offer. The idea that they were superior than their earthponies but not those with the capabilites of flight unless they had a clean bloodline was introduced. An earth pony unit was also formed but they were to only be a part of the police force which would be needing more guards when former members of the dominion's military left it. A pegasus unit would also be formed, but they were to be used in a special unit, where they could be Abendstern trained, but blend in with foreign crowds. A special unit for Abendstern unicorns was also formed for more covert operations. Those from the Dominion could join once they had proven themselves. Meanwhile, the first design for air deliverance had been made. It consisted of a small wagon which the pilot would pull behind him and when over the destination would push a lever that opened the bottom to release whatever it had been carrying. It worked but accuracy could have been better and it was obvious one could only fly so far with it comfortably. A set of large wings was suggested so gliding could be done and relieve the pilot somewhat. A glider was fashioned and worked well until it was attached to the pilot with wagon. Obviously it was still a work in progress.

Salaaria grinned as she imagined what Blackfire spoke of, her soldiers wiping out Ponnisian soldiers in droves "from what Ive heard of them and their attitude, they  arent used to ponies standing up to them in anyway, and it was a general shock when we fought back like, they rolled up in big boats with big guns and expected us to cower immediately, I respond by taking out one of their airships and killing a few hundred of them" she took another drink "The only reason I surrendered...Was so my beautiful palace wasnt blown to bits for no good reason, If it was anyother city Id continue the fight!"

"Oh.. well.... the smoke is indeed a bit of a... minor side effect... but thats the price of progress. I mean... you want to modernise, step out of the... middle ages, in that case you got to take it, good and bad parts together. Whatever your producing, a factory can produce faster and in greater quantity. Glass, armour, weapons... absolutely anything. Regarding the factories in Clexpo?... that was its original name right? Factories are usually on the side of town... the way they are placed is due to the limited space we had to build... as we wouldnt want to break the terms of the treaty... nor destroy the farms that have already been built. On the bright side... your going to open so many jobs... no longer would you need to be specialised into your job.. I mean you could bring a farmer and put him in a factory... in 2 days he'd be able to produce more goods than 10 individual, professional ponies."

The mayor as he walked to the guards noticed another group of ponies was going in already. I recognize the soldier in the lead as one of our own, but who is the other one? The guard received the mayor and allowed him access. The mayor nodded and returned to his guests. "They are ready to let us in, they seems to be another group heading inside so we don't have to wait for the gate to be lowered. I'm sure the Supreme Leader will see us shortly. Come come, there is no time to waste!"

A pegasus commander looked towards the smoke rising from the nearby mine. Ugh, just like last time, he thought as he remembered the last revolt only a week before. A messenger came up behind him and gave him orders. "Sir, your unit has been ordered to scout the nearest mine. Just get a view of the situation and report back the the general."

 

He nodded and went to his ponies  to give them their orders.

The mines soon saw their skies littered with staggered pegasi flying in for recon. The formations outside the mines showed the regulars were in front of the elite units. They seemed to be waiting for orders from their commanders, reading for the attack.

And Don't worry, I already closed my windows before coming out here. A friend of mine you to sail before settling back home. And he gave me a few tips before coming aboard.

 

Like don't stand close to the edge during a storm, keep windows closed, show the captain respect and say "aye" instead of yes. That sort of thing. He told me a few stories of is time out at sea. Said he was a quartermaster for a pirate ship for a while."

"Well I doubt I've seen your friend but his time on the high seas taught him a little respect, even some pirates realize the value of being respectable, we had a pirate with class back in me cabin boy days, can't remember his name, but he used to send a crew in a whaling boat to deliver demands, If you let him board he would take some of your load and leave you a bag of bits, to pay for another load once you reached shore, and if you didn't let him board, well you wouldn't have to worry about your ship just yourself." The Captains says with a hearty laugh, "Captain land ho!", says a crew member in the crow box "Where is it?", yells the captain, "Just below the moon, the outline stands out and lights of a town, can't see our flag, too dark!" Yells back the crew mate. The captain thinks for a secound then yells "Lower the anchor, get a good rest and like I said" pointing at the crew, "watch the boat or be thrown off the boat."

@@Skullbuster, Blackfire smiled and stood back up on her hind legs barely keeping herself balanced. She picked up a bottle of wine and held it above herself. "A toast to pegasi everywhere, and may the bare backs fall before us!" Soldiers cheered and whooped at this,even though it were simple. Blackfire drank straight from the bottle, chugging it down until it was empty. Small streams of it ran down from the edges of her mouth. She wiped at them with the forearm holding the bottle before holding it out and dropping it with a loud thud. She smiled and fell back with an equally loud thud, completely passed out on the floor. She curled up into a child like fetal position, reaching out and embracing the bottle to herself, still smiling all the while, unaware of her surroundings and the massive hangover that awaited her when she woke up. One of the few Pegasonian soldiers that remained sober went over to her before speaking to the queen. "Looks like she's gone and dropped. We'll bring her to a nearby ship where she can rest in the captain's quarters in a bit." He called over another that was sober and sent him out to go retrieve a ship which wouldn't be too far off. When he returned, he helped carry her back to it. The others began collecting empty bottles and finishing those that weren't. Before they completely left the first sober when approached again. "By the way, a ship was sighted heading towards your country. We believe it to be one of the Ponssians. It had a very large cargo and was producing a lot of smoke. Just thought that you should know."

 

@@Derplight Sperkle, One of the lead revolters watched with several others as the scouts flew by. One beside him raised one of the few guns they had from their rather hidden position but the lead placed a hoof on top to lower it. "Don't waste any of the ammo boy. We're going to need it for when they attack in mass." He turned and faced those he and a few other leads had set in charge of groups of others. "Concentrate your fire on their air power. The traps on the ground will hold back the ground forces till they've all been set off. If we don't gain the upper hoof which, let's face it, isn't likely, flee into the mines. Their numbers will mean nothing there, and those in front will stall the rest behind as they reload."

 

@@Gloomfury, He shook his hoof. "Colonel Lauffeuer, leader of Abendstern's unofficial Special Forces. Come! we have a ways to travel and I still need to get all of my supplies and men together." Once the wagon had been brought out with its covered contents, they went to a nearby base. Waiting outside were several wagons and artillery pieces, and at least two hundred stallions hitching themselves up or getting in formation for marching. He had one guard bring out a green uniform with two white armbands, along with a helmet that had a white stripe painted down the middle. "This is for you to wear while with us." he said to Flitz. "It's meant for those of the permitted civilian aristocracy to wear when watching us perform in the field, but so many are veterans that they're very rarely worn. This one I know certainly hasn't." You will receive your weapon when we arrive to our destined location. Along the way you may ask me if you have any questions."

The queen sighed, "Well then I must get going, tell your queen that it was a pleasure meeting her, soon I will be sending trade ships over within the week, but Ive been away from my kingdom for too long!" after pleasantries were given, the next day the treasure fleet headed off to the capital, and arrived a few days later

 

during Hommits conversation with the duke, the ponissian ship pulled in, several hours later the treasure fleet pulled into the harbor

As the bridge was the heaviest and hardest structure to build, the ponssians didnt trust the Cidonians to handle it. About 50m downriver from the capital, where the shore was high, the massive ship started unloading. Two onboard cranes lifted six huge steel segments. The bridge would have no pillars, in order to keep the river clear for transport. The two base segments were lowered to their position on the rivers banks, ponssians started working on them immidiately. About 50m of rail were already placed in position near the bridge site, ready to be connected by the structure.

As soon as the conversation was over, the duke took his two Cidonian trainee-guards and went to port. A cart was waiting for him, he got on and looked at the map he still had on the desert. He drove and stopped near one of the blue areas on the map and waited for the sun to lower.

The queen sat in her throne relived to be home "Oh it feels nice to be back home! I must of missed so much!" as informants filled her in on what she had missed shhad a look around "Say where is that duke character?" another pony responded "He was seen heading out to the desert my queen" she rubbed her chin "Interesting...one of you show me to his office" a servant nodded and she was taken to his office "Wow, he doesnt keep tidy does he?" taking note of all the paper work

 

Out in the desert, Rex asked the duke "Commander, may I ask what are we doing out here?" on the other side of the duke stood Lixus however, she looked sickly, bags under her eyes, she coughed

The office was quite small. A euriopean style desk was on the opposite side of the door. two knight armours stood on each side of the door. The cupboards were overflowing with paperwork and the desk had a giant paper wall on it.

 

"Oh.... if i may call it... diplomacy." he pulled a badg out of the cart. Inside it was a suit of medieval plate armour... yet it was not empty. He sat on it and continued,"Something i like to call... a precaution..."

In the desert, the spirits began rising from the desert sands Rex and Lixus backed away, Lixus coughed

He noticed the spirits,

"Ah... i see the guests are here. You two.. stay here..."

 

The pulled the suit of armour up to the side of the invisible field, he started speaking in a loud voice.

"Greetings there fellow warriors, now i know what your thinking. Look a pony... lets kill him... but i have a question for you... arent you tired of it... Arent you tired of being stuck in this place, arent you tired of disappearing during the day... of just saying there... doing nothing. Arent you tired of the fact the the only sound you make is grrr? Dont you want to walk, during the day and feel stuff... more or less... Well i got just the thing for you."

He stands up the armour and opens a flap on its back and turns a key. the suit vibrates and moves mechanically around,

'Now... that is what it does based on springs.... but with a soul in it... you'll be free to move around anywhere you want.... i have a lot of them... in exchange... i want co-operation.... Please, nod if interested... the alternative is sitting here another thousand years or so..."

The spirit was of an ancient pegasus warrior, it stopped, the last thing on its mind, as with all the other spirits was fighting, it took the time to think, it inspected the armor, growling, the 2 guards kept their distance, the spirit continued looking over the armor, then nodded

The spirit entered the suit of armor, a blue glow that looked almost like flame emanated from the creases of the armor "For 600 years..." it spoke with a heavily mechanical sounding voice "I have existed...trapped in endless combat...What services do you require?"

 

Rex and Lixus looked on in amazement
