UNPOPULAR WRESTLING OPINION

Sting -v- Jeff Hardy at TNA Victory Road 2011 was better than Sting -v- Triple H at WrestleMania 31.

Yes.

However, this time we get to see AJ Styles wrestle Samoa Joe  for the WWE Championship.

It's kinda a big deal.

I guess so. At least the two guys have good chemistry together, so it ought to be a good match.

I thought Dan "The Beast" Severn's WWF theme was awesome way before I found out it was Brian Zane's favorite theme of all-time.

I must have better taste in wrestling themes than I originally thought. :ooh:

It's gotten worse.

Tracy Caddell, wrestling promoter, trainer, co-founder of Matt Hardy's old wrestling fed OMEGA and father of Impact's Trevor Lee has also passed away.

Apparently, there is going to be a "Tower Mode" in WWE 2K19 like in Mortal Kombat & the Injustice series.

Also there are new screenshots in the article.

https://wwe.2k.com/news/wwe-2k19-towers/

So it's basically them bringing back Slobber Knocker mode.

Still not buying it. Something about those goes games was lost starting in '10 and beyond. It's become more of a grindy simulation instead of the arcade style of HCTP through '07. Think I'll play Fire Pro Wrestling World instead.

Speaking of Fire Pro, let's talk about there sponsors, New Japan, and the on going G1 Climax.

A bit behind due to BronyCon but I'm trying to catch up, so here it goes.

Spoiler

Night 8 in the B Block. Goto beat Yano in record time. Naito beat Tama Tonga in a  match  filled w/ LIJ and BC:OG shenanigans. ZSJ def. Ishii in a match that had more twists and turns than I thought it would. Omega continued his winning ways while Juice continued his loosing ones in a fun little match. and in the main event, the 2nd round of the Handsome Battle, it was Kota Ibushi vs. Sanada. Such fabulous men, who were mirror reflections of each other in some ways. But only one of these true athletes could come out on top, and to the shock of many, it was Sanada, continuing on as the G1's Dark Horse.

B Block

Omega- 8 points

Sanada- 6 points

Ibushi- 4 points

Ishii- 4 points

ZSJ- 4 points

Goto- 4 points

Naito- 4 points

Tama Tonga- 2 points

Toru Yano- 2 points

Juice Robinson- 0 points

Night 9 in the A Block. Suzuki avenged last years loss to Elgin. Evil bested hangman in an old school brawl. In the first ever meeting between New Zealanders in the G1, Fale beat switchblade w/ help from the Tongans. Makabe fell to Tanahashi in a rehash of their old feud. And int he main event, Yoshi-Hashi put up a hell of a fight, but couldn't beat the Rainmaker. A couple of call backs to their first meeting, which was Okada's first match back from excursion.

A Block

Evil- 8 points

Tanahashi- 8 points

Switchblade-6 points

Suzuki- 6 points

Okada- 6 points

Togi Makabe- 4 points

Mike Elgin- 4 points

Fale- 4 points

Hangman- 2 points

Yoshi-Hashi- 2 points

And semi-related, I had a dream that the G1 was taking place at my elementary school gym, and as they were setting everything up, I got to introduce my brother to Switchblade Jay White.

I liked WWE 2k16's Stone Cold Steve Austin story mode.

Also, I think 2K's simulation style is really fun most of the time.

Spoiler

Nights 10 & 11 of the G1.

B Block is the block.

ZSJ/Tama was a nice clash of styles. Submission grappling vs. brawling. But ended in a disappointing DQ for Zack due to Tongan interference. Juice finally got on the scoreboard with a victory over Yano in what was a nice blend of comedy and serious wrestling. 3rd match in, and our semi-main matches will have their work cut out for them, as Ibushi/Ishii stole the show in a stiff as hell striking exchange that was strong style personified. Either man was worthy, but the Golden Star inched out victory. Naito bested Goto in a close match and Omega ended Sanada's streak of wins in a match filled with athletic counters. There's now talk that Omega maybe the first wrestler to go undefeated in the G1 and the first Heavyweight champion to choose their destiny since 2000.

B Block

Omega- 10 points

Sanada- 6 points

Ibushi- 6 points

Naito- 6 points

ZSJ- 6 points

Ishii- 4 points

Goto- 4 points

Tama Tonga- 2 points

Toru Yano- 2 points

Juice Robinson- 2 points

Fale beat Makabe with help from a steel chain. Switchblade once again beat hangman in a very tough contest that almost matched their SSE match. And Suzuki got even w/ Evil for last years loss in a match that had a lot of yelling and screaming in it. Tanahashi beat Yoshi Hashi w/ a cradle and Okada survived Elgin for another year.

A Block

Tanahashi- 10 points

Evil- 8 points

Switchblade- 8 points

Suzuki- 8 points

Okada- 8 points

Fale- 6 points

Togi Makabe- 4 points

Mike Elgin- 4 points

Hangman- 2 points

Yoshi-Hashi- 2 points

Since I recently got the DVD of the full event here it is. Last year I only talked about the last two matches of this event.

Summerslam 2008

This is the first Summerslam of the PG Era and the last Summerslam to take place in a different arena. This year it was at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. Let me say first that I like the movie theme that they're going with this Summerslam, I especially like the stage being the exterior of a movie theater. After all, some of the highest grossing movies of the year usually happen in the summertime. On the the show. We start off with a solid yet could have been better opener between MVP and Jeff Hardy, with MVP winning after Jeff was distracted by Shelton Benjamin. The next match is quite unique, an intergender tag match for both the Intercontinental Championship and the Women's championship Kofi Kingston and Mickie James defending their respective titles against Santino Marella and Beth Phoenix. The match was relatively short, but revives the tradition of the Intercontinental Championship changing hands at Summerslam. Next is an official announcement by Shawn Michaels and his wife, ex Nitro Girl Rebecca AKA Whisper, regarding the future of his career after receiving a serious eye injury at the hands of Chris Jericho in their match at the Great American Bash. HBK is discussing the highlights of his career when he's interrupted by Jericho who insists on HBK telling the world that it was he (Jericho) who ended HBK's career. It leads to Jericho attempting to punch Shawn but winds up hitting Rebecca instead knocking her out. This would set up an unsanctioned match at Unforgiven. Next is the ECW Championship match with Mark Henry defending against Matt Hardy. In what is considered one of the dumbest decisions ever, Henry is disqualified after Tony Atlas interferes after just 30 seconds into the match!!!! What's dumb is that the ECW championship matches by default have to be extreme rules, no holds barred, falls count anywhere, no disqualification, you name it. If it were up to me, I would have had it that way. The World Heavyweight Championship match between CM Punk and JBL. I thought the match was solid and the major high point of Punk's first reign as WHC. The WWE Championship between Triple H and the Great Khali. On paper this sounds like it's going to be terrible. However the match turned out to be very decent. Triple H carried Khali through a good match, and it was the right decision to have Triple H win. 2008 was one of the Game's better years. Next is Batista VS John Cena. The build up for this match started all the way back to the 2005 Royal Rumble. I've already talked about the specifics of this match last year. It was a very good match. Now to the main event. Undertaker VS Edge in a Hell in a Cell match. Throughout Summerslam's history, it's had many matches involving cages, 4 standard cage matches, 2 Lions Den matches, and an Elimination Chamber match. This is the first time for Hell in a Cell at Summerslam. I've also discussed the specific spots for this match last year. I'll say that Edge brought a TLC environment to the match and that it was unquestionably Undertaker's best Summerslam match ever. It's all capped off with Taker chokeslamming Edge off the ladder and through the ring.

I thought this was a great Summerslam. Could have been better had they had the ECW Championship been done without a DQ finish.

What are your thoughts on Summerslam 2008.

Tomorrow I'll review Summerslam 2012.

I had to change all of the turnbuckle finishers/signatures to something else so that I would still be able to win matches with certain wrestlers.

I recently got the DVD for the full event so I'm reviewing it today. Last year I only saw the main event.

Summerslam 2012

For the 25th show, it takes place for the 4th time at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. We start off with a very good match between Chris Jericho and Dolph Ziggler. Y2J played the underdog well with his taped ribs. the Daniel Bryan/Kane was pretty solid. The whole anger problems storyline would lead to the two teaming up. Next is the Intercontinental Championship match. First let me say off the bat that I like Rey's Batman attire. This is the first of the Miz's many reigns as IC champion. The match was short but it had action all throughout so a solid match overall. Although I feel that the IC title should traditionally change hands at Summerslam, I feel it was the right decision for Miz to retain and continue to establish himself as a solid heel. Next, Sheamus defends the World Heavyweight Championship against Alberto Del Rio. The match was good, but the ending was a bit of a mess. Ricardo throws his shoe in to help Del Rio, but Sheamus catches it and uses it on Del Rio and wins, but Del Rio's foot was on the ropes. This would lead to a rematch at Night of Champions. The Tag Title match between R-Truth and Kofi Kingston and the Prime Time Players was solid though nothing special. Now the WWE Championship match. CM Punk defending against John Cena and the Big Show in a Triple Threat Match. The match was good, Having Big Show tap out to both Punk's Koji Clutch and Cena's STF was a cool spot. The match was restarted and Punk retained. Punks lengthy reign as WWE Champion continues. Before the main event, Kevin Rudolf performed the Summerslam Theme with the Divas dancing on stage. Now for the Main Event. Brock Lesnar VS Triple H. I had already discussed this match in it's specifics last year. What's interesting is that this is a battle of the 2 top heels of their respective brands from late 2002 to early 2004 with Triple H as Raw's top heel and Brock Lesnar as Smackdown's top heel (Though Brock was a babyface for most of 2003). It wasn't a very good wrestling match but it was a very good fight. Triple H taps out to the Kimura Lock and Lesnar keeps up his momentum as a monster heel. Afterwards Triple H refuses medical assistance, gets up on his own and receives a standing ovation.

This was a very good Summerslam. Although none of the matches were that close to 5 star classics, every match was solid.

What did you think of Summerslam 2012?

Tomorrow I'll review Summerslam 2015.

Continuing coverage of nights 12 & 13 of the G1.

Spoiler

B Block

Quite the night here in Best Block. Ishii fought hard against Tama, but BC:OG interference and a gun stun counter to the brain buster gave Tama his second win. In a battle of athletic wits, Juice got the duke over Sanada, his gamble of using his broken left hand paying off. A battle of shenanigans between Yano & Naito, Yano being taped to a guard rail, only for him to drag the rail back with him into the ring. Not enough to overcome the Star Dust Genius though. The anticipated Omega/ZSJ match didn't disappoint. Very fast paced. Very even through out. Lots of counters. Int he end, Omega beat ZSJ at his own game with a crucifix pin. And inthe main event, home town hero Ibushi bested Hirooki Goto.

Mathematically, it's becoming clearer who's gonna win the block. A lot of people have been eliminated due to losses against Omega. So even if they did tie him in points, they'd still be out cause he beat them and that earns him the final say. So the only ones who can still get by are Naito and Ibushi. Naito may have lost to Omega, but if Omega looses or ties 2/3 final matches, then Naito can surpass him in points. If he wins his next three. Ibushi just needs to win 2/3, as long as one of those wins is against Omega. He wins, then the tiebreaker is in his favor.

Or Omega wins all three and becomes the first world champ in 20 years to make the finals.

Omega- 12 points

Naito- 10 points

Ibushi- 8 points

Sanada- 6 points

ZSJ- 6 points

Ishii- 4 points

Goto- 4 points

Tama Tonga- 4 points

Juice Robinson- 4 points

Toru Yano- 2 points

A Block

Another DQ loss for Fale, handing an injured Elgin the win. Hangman Paige finally gets his first pinfall win in the G1 over Makabe. Switchblade maintains his dominance by giving a defiant Yoshi Hashi a beating. Tanahashi beat Evil with his own move, followed by the High Fly Flow. And in a rematch from last year, Okada finally beat Suzuki in, as to be expected in most Suzuki matches, a hard hitting affair.

Tanahashi- 12 points

Switchblade- 10 points

Okada- 10 points

Evil- 8 points

Suzuki- 8 points

Mike Elgin- 6 points

Fale- 6 points

Togi Makabe- 4 points

Hangman- 4 points

Yoshi-Hashi- 2 points

Sorry this is a day late,

Summerslam 2015

For the first time since 2009, Summerslam has had a change in venue. This time it returns to the New York area for the 8th time, only now it's for the first time at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. It begins with Jon Stewart opening the show by bringing out Mick Foley to help interview Brock Lesnar, but Mick admits he's terrified of Brock Lesnar so they just head to the back. The opening match is between Randy Orton and Sheamus. It's a solid opener and Sheamus won clean keeping up his momentum for his eventual MITB cash in at Survivor Series. The Fatal 4 Way match for the Tag Titles was very fun and fast paced. One awesome spot was when the Lucha Dragons were going to double superplex Diego but with a little extra 'push' so to speak from Titus O'Neil, slamming all three to the mat. New Day wins their second tag titles and this would be the start of their record breaking long reign. The Rusev/Dolph Ziggler match was okay, but what drags it down was the double countout. I'm not fond of non finishes. There would be a rematch at Night of Champions with a clear cut winner. The Neville and Stephen Amell/King Barrett and Stardust was decent, Amell's flying crossbody onto both Barrett and Stardust was quite awesome. Next is the Intercontinental Championship Match. Ryback defending against the Big Show and the Miz in a Triple Threat Match. This has to be IMHO the worst Intercontinental Championship match in the history of Summerslam. Next match between the 2 former Shield members and the Wyatt family. What makes this match memorable for all the wrong reasons is that during the match, Luke Harper hits Roman Reigns with a running dive through the ropes. After that, Luke hits Roman with a superkick that knocks him over and behind the announce table. For the next 5 minutes, Dean Ambrose has to take on the Wyatt family himself. Because apparently, Roman Reigns decided to take a nap before getting back into the ring, and the fans acknowledged this by chanting "Roman's Sleeping!" That  woke him from his dream and he got back into the match. The match itself was good but Roman going nightie night ruins it. Anyone other wrestler who takes those moves would be back to the ring apron in less than a minute. Now I know why fans hate Roman Reigns. Next is the Title for Title match. WWE Champion Seth Rollins VS United States Champion John Cena. This was clearly the match of the night. Jon Stewart turning on Cena and helping Rollins win was shocking. But it was the right move to have Rollins win. Too soon for another Cena reign as WWE champion. Superb match. Next is the three team divas elimination match. It had some cool high flying spots, especially the three in succession when they all spilled out to the floor. Unfortunately fans weren't pleased when Team BAD was eliminated early on. Sasha Banks is quite popular from what I understand. Overall it wasn't terrible but the NXT Divas were far better than the main roster divas. The show picks back up with Kevin Owens/Cesaro. This will probably be a hidden gem down the road. Now for the Main Event, the long awaited rematch between the Undertaker and Brock Lesnar. Taker's payback match against Lesnar for ending the streak at Wrestlemania XXX. The match itself was entertaining but a particularly dumb finish drags it down. Lesnar had Taker in the Kimura Lock, Taker's shoulders were down for a count of 1 and the bell is rung. The ref waves it off and in the confusion, Taker puts Lesnar in the Hell's Gate, and Brock passes out giving Taker the victory. Looking at the replay it showed that Taker DID tap out to the Kimura Lock. The payoff would come at Hell in a Cell. If you take away the dumb moment this would be given a higher grade.

The DVD is on two discs and the show was for 3 and half hours. Some may give this a bad grade, but I think that a lot of the matches were good The Rollins/Cena, Owens/Cesaro and most of Taker/Brock. If you had a better IC Championship match, taken away Roman Reigns' 5 minute snooze, and the Dusty finish to Taker/Brock, this is a great Summerslam.

What did you think of Summerslam 2015.

Next I'll review Summerslam 2016.
