I would LOVE it if Trish would wrestle Becky Lynch someday, my favorite of all-time Trish Stratus vs. my current favorite Becky Lynch.  :D

Sounds like a match that everybody wants.

Yeah I thought they just took the classic logo and just un-italicized it. It's not terrible. But it does follow the AEW/Impact trend of logos made to sell power tools.

But hey, it could've been worse.

Didn't the original Ring of Honor Logo look almost exactly like the new design?

Impact Wrestling's logo makes it look like I'm not watching a wrestling show.

Also, much like with the "TNA" logo it looks like it belongs in the early 2000's instead of 2022, IMO.

Have you seen 2000s logos? They were either hand drawn or made from clip art. No no. This is purely modern 'we're serious now' wrestling logos devoid of charm.

And that's what's wrong with the logos in the Wrestling business nowadays. They are not eye-catching in the slightest.

I see your point about the "we're serious now"-ness of the logos. Also, WWE's logos do seem to repeat themselves every year for HIAC & it bugs me.

Except *maybe* WrestleMania a lot of WWE's PPV logo's have looked pretty "meh" for the past twenty years, IMO.

Hey. Check out this card.

Nikita Koloff vs Rick Rude for the U.S title

Sting vs Super Invader

Barry Windham and Dustin Rhodes vs Terry Gordy and Dr Death Steve Williams

Ricky Steamboat vs Stunning Steve Austin

The Steiners vs Arn Anderson and Bobby Eaton

Ron Simmons vs Greg Valentine

Jushin Thunder Liger vs Brad Armstrong

Larry Zbyszko vs Cactus Jack

Marcus Bagwell vs DDP

No, This wasn't a PPV. This was a fricking house show from 1992.

Do wrestling fans truly know what they want?

If you look at the WWE Money in the Bank 2022 comments about the main event I'm not entirely sure...I'm happy, btw. :confused:/:D

I think they don't like being swerved or things being poorly executed.

Spoiler

It was very clear they positioned Matt Riddle to be the next guy, but they went with Austin Theory as a bait and switch. It doesn't help that this reeks of Lesnar winning MITB. And did you know that this is the 5th straight year a women's MIBT was cashed in under 24 hours? Way to build up that moment of Morgan's babyface challenge for the gold.

On the flip side, WWE may actually be giving a damn about tag team wrestling.

I mean about complaining that WWE doesn't make new stars and it's always the same people in the main event.

The bait and switch was weird but I was happy because there's just something about Theory that I like

I guess the F5 Theory took off of the Elimination Chamber pod really stuck with me.

I'm bored with ladder matches because of overuse and I'm more interested in who ends up winning and how long they'll keep the briefcase.

I would have liked Becky Lynch to win the Women's MITB but Liv winning was too obvious for it not to happen.

The cash-in was the unexpected result.

I'm also happy for the "Soho Squad" because besties supporting each other in wrestling is always cool to see. :D

It shouldn't really be a caveat that new stars also mean people with momentum and fan support. Sheamus and Jinder Mahal were new stars. Look how well they turned out in the main event.

Spoiler

The problem with Theory is that his inclusion made the rest of the match pointless. All thee people we were invested in? All their struggles for them to enter the match? A months worth of TV hyping up this match? Pointless. Because Theory came out of nowhere to nullify any audience investment. Now instead of what's looking like Theory/Cena at SummerSlam for the U.S. title, we're getting the far more predictable match for the MITB instead. Theory can be good. I saw him during his Evolve days. He has potential. But I fear WWE maybe moving too fast and rail roading him to the top.

And while I'm happy for Liv, I'm getting flash backs to Zack Ryder's ladder match win at 'mania. An artificial feel good moment rushed with no build. I hope it doesn't come to that, because Liv winning off of a beaten Rousy is starting her off on shaky ground. Not the best way to make a new star.

That is true, but there was also a slight chance Theory could get close only to lose in the end causing Mr. McMahon's plan to backfire. :please:

I'm not sure if fans were really asking for a Liv Morgan title run at all even though WWE led me to believe that was the case during her MITB matches.

I don't keep track of weekly shows so I don't know how popular Liv Morgan actually is.

Theory failing Vinny is way too nuanced for the E. WWE have a nasty habit of telegraphing plot lines.

They actually did give Liv an organic build over the last six months, putting up hard fights for the gold but always falling short. Nice to see they tied off that plot thread, but this sent the way to pay it off.

I think both Theory and Liv Morgan will only hold their titles for a month if they're lucky.

Meaning, Theory cash-in wins somehow and loses the WWE title a month or so later. People compared him to The Miz and I can see it.

I think it'll be the opposite. Wwe realize they're short on young main eventers and need some star power when Reigns and Lesnar aren't around. So decently long title reigns or at least reoccurring title programs.

I was thinking that, too but will people really tune in if Theory becomes WWE Champion? The reaction to his MITB win isn't doing him any favors.

I think (According to storyline.) that Riddle isn't allowed to challenge for the WWE Championship as long as Roman Reigns is Champion.

I can't stand Riddle so I would happily accept Theory in his place even with all of the fan annoyance going on right now. :BrightMacContent:

  • 2 weeks later...

The prodigal son returns.

image.thumb.png.87a299213e837103c2b05dd3eb57b44d.png

And it looks like sometime this August, we'll be getting a Kushida/ Taiji Ishimori rematch over three and a half years in the making. Post comeback match he talked about wrestling in WWE being his dream, how he wanted to face either Kyle O'Reily or Bryan Danielson at WresteMania, but admitted WWE has a "brutally high turn over rate" and that he left with some dreams unfullfilled and that door being closed on him. But that he's grateful for New Japan fans and his pal Tanahashi for welcoming him back. There's still hope for those matches if Kushida wants to knock on a different door :ooh:. But personally I just want Kushida to rejoin with Alex Shelly, who will rejoin with Chris Sabin and we can finally have the mythical dream trio of Time Machine! Go back and watch Kushida & Shelly's tag matches as the Time Splitters or go and see  Kushida & Sabin's team up at jr tag league 2018. Pure chemistry

Speaking of leagues, all four blocks of the G1 have finally been announced!

A Block

B Block

C Block

D Block

And in other news, this will be the first G1 since 2016 not to feature a member of the Golden Lovers int he final as both Kenny and Ibushi are dealing with some nasty injuries. Kenny was more wrecked than we thought. G1 2018 was some of his best work, but it all came at a cost. He's not so sure if he can continue if his rehab hits another set back.

Ibushi is also in the same boat. His shoulder got jacked in last years final and has been trying to rehab it but it sounds like it's only gotten worse. Pair that with a nasty spat with NJPW management and he may not be coming back at all. Thinking of starting his own fed even. Personally I think he should just jump ship to AEW where he as a few friends at least. Japanese wrestling was practically built on the foundation of "F:mellow:k you. I'm building my own fed with black jack and hookers." New Japan after Inoki was fired from the PWF. Giant Baba splitting from the PWF to form All Japan. Tenryu splitting from All Japan to form Super World of Sports. Misawa splitting from All Japan to form NOAH. Mutoh splitting from All Japan to form Wrestle-1. And that's not even counting all the indy feds and how the defection of Joshi wrestlers forming their own feds killed womens wrestling for a time. In this day in age, I don't think I'd be a good idea for Ibushi to form a fed.

In brighter news, New Japan maybe revising their young lions program to help their guys form personality and characters earlier on and even starting programs to help the transition of new employees straight out of high school, even if it isn't in a wrestling capacity. Same goes for creating jobs for wrestlers getting up there in years so that they don't have to keep tearing themselves up in the ring past 50. Cheering crowds will finally be allowed in moderation this September (however Tokyo Joshi has beaten them to the punch). Stardom girls will be making appearances in some NJUSA shows. And New Japan & Stardom will be hosting a joint super show this November with at least two mixed tag matches.

That's all. For now.

Wrestling Summit 1990. Not only was it the last crossover show everparticipated by WWE but it was also the first held between rivals All Japan and New Japan. I'd say that was the first time the forbidden door got opened. Though this wasn't exactly done magnanimously. The only reason this show went down was to absolutely crush the upstart UWFi federation. It'd be like WWE, ROH and TNA working together to crush Lucha Underground.
